Jimmy V had his faults, but it wasn't like this. When the lead NCAA investigator writes a letter to you saying that he would be honored if his son played for you, then you should probably keep your job or at least have people in the media publicly chastise the idiot that wrote a book that was full of lies about you and your program. 6/18/2011 12:54:32 AM |

You did just say that you'd fire them for bringing investigators to campus. Which would mean you'd fire V before that letter was written.

However V didn't bring the investigators the stupid fucking book did. Also the NCAA found no major violations after a thorough investigation while UNC is FULL of major violations right now.6/18/2011 8:07:26 AM |

At least someone gets it. Valvano though should have been told that he could be either the AD or the basketball coach, but not both. Just too much to place on someone without there being an adverse affect on their work. 6/18/2011 8:34:47 AM |

I saw that POS "Personal Fouls" in a used bookstore in Charlotte a few years ago. I nearly bought it just so I could burn it, that way there would be one less copy of it in the world. 6/18/2011 1:38:44 PM |

An in-law bought a copy of "Personal Fouls" for us (wife and I, both alums and huge sports fans) because he was told it was a "book about Valvano." He was totally oblivious but quickly got the picture when I stormed off and returned with a garbage can and some lighter fluid... felt great to light it up. 6/18/2011 4:03:19 PM |

So, even though, yes, the school DOES have the authority to do so, you are A-OK with a coach hiding improprieties and fucking CHEATING by not using his university issued phone AT ALL? Is that where you really want to go?

Jimmy V was railroaded by a slanderous book and muckraking newspaper with ZERO journalistic ethics. that is common fucking knowledge.

Jimmy V didn't bring investigators to campus. Lying book-writers and sleazy journalists did. there's a difference.6/18/2011 6:46:29 PM |

anything new? A bunch of people over at IC seem to think that even though the unpaid parking tickets might be illegal, its not an NCAA violation and this is much to do about nothing. Also UNC is claiming that all of the cars are registered under either the players or players family's names.
I'm hoping that there is a lot of fire behind all of this smoke and that UNC will get the hammer dropped on them, but I'm kinda torn on how I feel about how much trouble UNC could actually get into for all this. 6/19/2011 1:48:04 PM |

^Well, it was reported a few days back that UNC looked into the vehicle registrations (which have not been released to the public) and determined that all the vehicles of the 11 (or 12?) players were registered to a family member or the player...or something like that. However this is merely what the university is reporting as the records have not been released. The parking tickets, in and of themselves, aren't really a big deal...it might be a little suspicious that 11 players racked up such a huge total, but unless the players were getting preferential treatment when it came to getting out of the ticket/having to pay then it's not a violation. The issue with the parking tickets is to see, and please correct me if I'm wrong, what type of cars the players were driving, who they are registered to, and the VIN number of the cars (so they can be traced back to a dealer).
That is my understanding (which I have gained from reading this thread and listening to sports radio) of the whole parking ticket issue, but I'm sure someone more informed could give a better explanation. 6/19/2011 4:38:18 PM |

^ Also to add on to this UNC's story is suspicious at best. They are saying that some players have so many tags/cars because tickets were given to them while they were in their friends cars (wouldn't those tickets be on the car and not the person because they are PARKING TICKETS??). Also some of the stuff the players have been doing has been blatantly illegal. Fictitious tags (tits mcgee admitted to this) is a fairly serious offense. It will take more than UNC proclaiming everyone's registration was on the up and up for me to believe it (interesting that they didn't release the names of ticketed players even though they apparently have that information). Many of the cars with supplied VINs (temporary tags) have been shown to be new relatively expensive cars which could end up being interesting. Also the shenanigans with davis's phone records are ridiculous he did business only on his private phone that seems sketchy as shit.

Haha. people do that shit all the time. I'm not surprised they found some football players were doing it. A large percentage of these guys aren't exactly coming to school from Affluentville, USA or anything.
I'm not going to get excited until someone finds a smoking gun that ties Davis to the shenanigans that were going on.6/19/2011 7:12:16 PM |

The other thing is the unpaid tickets. If any of the players were allowed to register with unpaid tickets on their record then that is against university policy which means they were given preferential treatment which is an NCAA violation. 6/19/2011 8:37:19 PM |

^^ Which makes those records public records. Any government employee can tell you that if they conduct business on their private email/phone it is still a matter of public record. ^^^ I have had a car impounded for that shit and the tag in question was on a car registered to me (and the new car was insured). Tits mcgee was driving around a car that had a tag on it registered to someone else that shit should have been impounded for sure. 6/19/2011 8:42:15 PM |

^After looking at the link in the post it's supposed to be the UNC recruiting video that was linked a few posts above.
They should have read the lines a few times before they recorded, especially the second person. I'm really glad the thesis papers I wrote had a more natural flow than I am capable of producing in my verbal communications.
And the "lol those chicks farted" section made me question who their intended target audience is supposed to be. Music was kind of grating as well. Good idea, better than I could have done, but could have been executed a bit better.
