Butch Davis deserves a lifetime contract and a statue erected in his honor, he is a golden god in my eyes.

Unfortunately, there's absolutely no way he survives this

In theory, I agree. But firing Butch/forced resignation would make UNC start completely fresh. Probably with a "safe" hire as no big name coach would come to UNC especially considering the probation and sancations...forcing UNC to completely rebuild. But I'm happy either way.

Thats the perception, but before going to the Browns he was an assistant coach for the same Miami teams that he supposedly "cleaned up"

I find it hard to believe he had no idea what was going on at the U while he was an assistant coach

yeah no shit.

If one player was getting tattoos or free drinks at rum runners in exchange for wristbands and nike socks i'd completely believe the coach didn't know.

But to act like he doesn't know his D-line coach who just so happens to be pulling in 5star DT's left and right is working for a sports agency, half his starters are receiving thousands of $ worth of gear, trips, and cash.... and the tutors are paying parking tickets for thousands of dollars? Give me a fucking break.

If your wife came home late with a new necklace, scabs on her back, and a purple pussy you wouldn't just assume she was working late.

as long as michael jordan went to uncch, their recruiting will be fine.

plus, their best football player ever loves working with high school kids.

He was a complete weasel while he was at Miami. He would put players on track/swimming scholarships to get around the penalties imposed by the NCAA (so much so I think the NCAA reworked some of their bylaws to get rid of this loophole). To say he was clean and "rebuilt a program" is revisionist history at its best considering he was on the staff that wrecked the program and has been associated with dirty fucks his entire career (a tradition he obviously continues).

I don't wanna trash our own program and I'm pretty sure the statue of limitations has passed.

But we all agree Chuck Amato was almost definitely dirty too right?

I happened to know a guy who worked for transportation (it was awesome if you got a ticket on campus and called him before 5 PM he could purge it from the system). Levar Fisher had a few thousand dollars worth of parking tickets alone. They booted his car for god's sake on campus after like his tenth one and he left it there for weeks while it piled up more tickets haha.

But Chucky never got caught. Eat it carolina hahaha.

Probably means that the NCAA has some more investigating to do and some additions. I can't imagine illegal shit with players tags/cars is just going to be ignored by the NCAA.

This could be huge. May be getting a TV ban in addition to probation/loss of schollies...they also asked about bowl affiliation I believe...

Zero chance this happens. We'll be on probation for a few years, lose some schollies, and vacate a lot of wins. Nothing that has a major effect moving forward.

"
NCAA: Former UNC football coach, tutor and student-athletes violated NCAA bylaws
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The University of North Carolina on Tuesday received a letter of allegations from an NCAA stemming from the NCAA's investigation into the football program which has been going on for over a year.

The letter outlines six umbrellas of violations of NCAA bylaws:

• Allegations against former assistant coach John Blake:

- unethical conduct for providing false and misleading information to the NCAA enforcement staff and to the institution and for failure to cooperate with the investigation.
- marketed athletic abilities of student-athletes to agent Gary Wichard
- received outside income that he did not report to the institution

• Allegations against alumna Jennifer Wiley:

- unethical conduct for refusing to provide information to the NCAA enforcement staff and to the institution
- provided extra benefits to student-athletes in the form of travel and parking expenses, and tutoring

• Allegations of academic fraud against student-athletes and the tutor

• Allegations that student-athletes received preferential treatment and accepted impermissible benefits

• Allegations against a former student-athlete for unethical conduct

• Failure by the institution to adequately monitor the conduct of Chris Hawkins, an individual triggering NCAA agent legislation; the social media activity of the football team for a period in 2010; and possible extra benefits to a student-athlete triggered by agent legislation.
"

^^yet things that could have a major effect in the short term...less schollies will decrease talent unless you think blue chippers want to walk on, bowl/TV bans will turn off other recruits, and if the talent is down, thats probably going to mean the W/L record is going to decrease

They've stuck with Butch this long because he's been on the brink of being an ACC football power for the last few seasons...if he starts going 6-6 with average teams, the damage he's done to the school's reputation will outweigh mediocre results

The NOA signals the end of the investigative phase. The NCAA has had the license plate/dealer tag info since last year.

It really all depends on how drastic the scholarship losses are. Significant scholarship reductions can be devastating but that's not going to be the case. Also, we finished 8-5 last season with the equivalent of massive scholarship reductions so I'm not all that worried about 3-4 for 3 years. Obviously it's not ideal but I can't remember the last time we carried a full 85 scholarship players anyway. Usually more like 82-83.

No, it doesn't.

The NOA is a statement of current allegations that can be amended at any time within the period of the investigation.

And if some of the things being said about the dealer who issued the tags are true, you can expect some FBI involvement as well.

You know it wasn't her money being used for the parking/plane tickets. She refused to talk to the NCAA to protect someone. That bitch.

Don't forget the fictitious tags side of things as well. There are some potential legal issues here outside of the NCAA.
