Seems like I saw something before but didn't find it when looking back through.

Is anyone doing a 365 Project? I'm on Day 14 so far and I'm a bit surprised how much I look forward trying to find something new each day. I was just wondering if anyone else is doing one, what day you're on, and how it's going?

Mine's nothing special since I'm working 60 hours a week and taking some night classes right now (not to mention that I'm just getting restarted after 10 years) but feel free to offer any comments/criticisms. I definitely welcome anything that will help me grow. I was really more interested in how others are doing.

All the snow has melted after 6" of constant rain and the sun came out for the first time in 5 days, so I figured I'd be advantageous. I only stayed out for a little while (shit ton of homework), walked around my backyard and the woods (I found a wicked huge down tree that split a few feet up from the trunk).

I like the natural contrast of browns in this picture (tan to dark brown).

i suspect this has been answered before somewhere in this thread, but i'm not going to dig through 155 pages to find it

is there any functional difference between JPEG-10 and JPEG-12? my understanding is that JPEG-10 (probably less, actually) at 200ppi is sufficient for quality 4x6/5x7/8x10 prints...but what if you're planning on eventually getting 11x14 (or significantly larger) images printed?

i was under the impression that JPEG-10 only removes data that most people can't really see anyway (or, at least, they might see the difference, but it's negligible)...it's also half the size of JPEG-12 (roughly)...true?

2 questions...

1) I'm looking at getting a D90 here shortly. It looks like I can get the body only for about $700, or get it with the 18-105 lens for about $920. I've already got the 18-55 and 55-200 lenses, so would there be any benefit to spending the extra money and getting the 18-105 lens?

2) What is everyone's thoughts on teleconverters? I would like to get a lot more range out of my lenses and was looking at getting a zoom lens in the 300mm-500mm range and possibly a 1.4 or 2.0 teleconverter. I've never used one but from what I've read, it's one of those love em or hate em deals. I was just wondering if anyone on here had used one and what they thought.

I went for a run at the Quabbin Reservoir today (largest manmade reservoir in New England and I think the east coast):

I've used a teleconverter once. It knocks you down a couple of f/stops, so much that I thought with the lens I had only on very bright days could I get reasonable results. Made me decide to save up for the lens I want rather than half-ass it.

If you have something f/2.8 or better then a telecoverter would probably serve you well. If you are only at f/5.6 to start with then I would stay away.

So I am finally giving in and getting an T2i.
Like most people that were waiting for T2i specifically, I am getting it with intentions to shoot some creative videos in addition to stills.

So, dear Wolf Web, I need advice on lenses.

I get the kit 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 IS lens for general purpose use (I think it is worth the 100 dollar difference between the kit and the body only).

I will need a portrait/ creative prime lens. I was looking at canon ES 50mm f/1.4 USM for about 370 bucks (I realize that because of the crop factor on aps-c it will be really be an 80 mm lens, BUT all the pictures I looked at shot on aps-c with 50mm looked a whole lot more dramatic than images with a "proper" 30mm f/1.4 Sigma. Am I looking at the wrong pictures? Will 50mm on a aps-c be too narrow for confined spaces? Also, should I save money and go for the $100 canon 50mm f/1.8 (my concern is the audio noise with that one, and apparently the build is not as tough)?

I'm also thinking about getting a wide angle. So far I have Canon ES-F 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 USM in mind for shooting indoors and for urban/landscape pics.

So with the above options, I will end up with a body, some flash memory, and three lenses for under $2000.

I do not feel like I will be upgrading to a full-frame anytime real soon, so ES lens suggestions would be nice, but ES-F is not really a problem is the price/quality difference is considerable.

Does anyone have any other suggestions based on all the above? Should I look outside the Canon's own lineup a little more? I haven't seen THAT much difference in pricing between canon and similar glass from 3rd paty makers, and I do not hve enough experience to tell the difference in picture quality.

The reason I specifically meantioned video is because it requires my lenses to be as quiet as possible on autofocus (hence USM), and have full-time manual focus option without having to tun off autofocus off, nd preferably have an image stabilizer (i know it doesnt work as well as it does on camcorders for video, but nevertheless)

HAlp!

In my experience, yes. But I would pick up the 50mm f/1.8 anyway since it is a nice lens and dirt cheap. Probably not good for video, though.

I have the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6. If the Tokina 10-16mm f/2.8 was out when I purchased my Sigma I would have chosen the Tokina for its wider aperture.

Any recommendations on a wide angle lens? Looking at either the Tokina 11-16 or the Sigma 10-20.

Just found a Staples deal on a new lens for my D40.

http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/32280/nikon-55-200mm-af-s-dx-vr-zoom-lens-150

I combined it with a $30 off $150 coupon to make the total $121! It is not the most impressive lens, but it will be a HUGE improvement off my little kit lens. Really excited!

I noticed that too after I uploaded it. I was going to bump up the exposure a little on the original file but I forgot. I think I went up .5 on the one below it. I haven't figured out how to adjust the aperture/exposure to get what I want yet so I'm tending to underexpose slightly and bump them up a little bit on the computer. Any suggestions?

I dunno, maybe try shooting in Av/Tv mode a bit and pay attention to what settings the camera tends to choose and then adjust and start using M. SORRY I'M NOT GOOD AT SUGGESTIONS

Decided to try to get lost in the country today after work. It's amazing what you can find when you're 10-15 minutes from home sometimes. I'm going to go back this weekend and try to get some more.

Might have stumbled into my first paying photo gig today. A coworker/friends husband is in Dallas, so I asked if she wanted me to come shoot pictures since I just got my new lens in and I could try it out. Ended up with 3 couples there and the parents want to buy prints from me! Here was one of the better pics that I got:

Still going through and editing. Was a lot of fun, even if I don't make a dime off it!
