This guy on the Adam and Joe show is analyzing the difference between LOIC and Failure to monitor. Basically he says the obvious: LOIC is not having the infrastructure to prevent breaking the rules, failure to monitor is when the infrastructure doesn't work well.

He says UNC is going to use the excuse, "we had these things in place and looked in to them, but we were lied to, so we don't deserve to receive harsh punishments. These people involved in doing bad things actively engaged in deception to cover this up, so how were we supposed to police ourselves?"

That seems to me like a company having a system where you can submit expenses, but not requiring any receipts. So later when execs are embezzling money through the expense system, the VP of the company can claim "We didn't know! We had this responsible money system in place, but they lied and they just submitted false claims how could we know?"

How can you be said to have the infrastructure if it doesn't work? There are no checks and balances there. If it fails THIS miserably, how can you claim to have institutional control? This is ridiculous.

Punishments haven't happened yet. This is just a list of what the NCAA was able to find out.

Haha...never thought of it, but now that you mention it...that's exactly right.

I really hope the NCAA doesn't let UNC off the hook when it comes time to hand down the punishment. I would think the NCAA would want to set a precedent here...UNC had a runner/agent on their payroll. Not only on their payroll, but he was the associate head coach (#2 in command) who was head of recruiting. This is something that has never happened in college football, to my knowledge (at least no one's ever been caught)...I'm thinking the NCAA will want to make sure this never happens again. I know UNC won't get the death penalty, they don't deserve it. But they do deserve something more than 2 years of probation and a loss of a handful of schollies.

Gold and Ovies are pretty harsh. I don't necessarily disagree with them though. They're asking how can UNC fans still support Butch so easily and how are they not up in arms over this whole situation...They make some good points. One of the best was, why do UNC fans see BD as the standard? They act as if they BD is the only man who can lead them to national respect in football, when in reality, all BD has done for UNC is take roughly 2 mill a year and produce mediocre results on the field and a world of trouble off of it. There's plenty of good coaches not named BD who can help UNC become a good football school...but UNC fans seem bent on keeping BD around.
