Well, I finally got it right on attempt number 6.
The issue was that I was using too much paint, too much thinner on my towel, and too much pressure wiping excess off.
Also, the engraving is less deep than the roll marks, which increased the difficulty as well.

The specks are paper towel residue, and I will take care of those once everything has fully dried.

fyi: surplusammo.com has 1000rds of bulk reman 9mm for $185+shipping

2000rds for $414 shipped = 20.7ยข/rd... that's better than just about anywhere i've seen

Random question. If you take a concealed carry class, how long do you have to get the permit before having to retake the class. Looking online it looks like some sites say 1 year, others say as long as you have proof you took it that's all you need.

class certificate doesn't have an expiration, but it is up to the sheriff of each county how long they are willing to honor it.

"NC is the same on most of those points. only major differences are NC requires a handgun purchase permit or a CHP to purchase a handgun and NC allows open carry."

with the exception that you can carry concealed in your car in Texas with out a CC license. That is HUGE!! In NC if you have a pistol in your glove box and no CC that's a big no-no.

I am not sure how it works in TX if you do not have a CHL (since I have one) but unlike NC you have to have it concealed in your car. Can't have it sitting on your dash or seat or anything like that.

I just bought a 930 2 weeks ago. Only shot it once but it ran like a top. I don't have any complaints. Paid 400 on gunbroker.

which one did you buy?

im just looking at the regular HS model, not the SPX.

mulling getting the combo gun so id also have the 28 inch ribbed barrel to swap out.

im expecting to pay less than 500 regardless.

suggestions on a 1911 that won't break the bank? it'd just be something to play with at the range. wouldn't wanna conceal it, but would like something i could trust to not fail in a defense situation.

most of what i find online is from gun rags and i never feel like i get the full story from them.

^^Regular 930. Mine didn't come with sights and has a breacher barrel which is pointless on a full-stock gun but what the hell the price was right.

^Rock Island Armory. I've got the tactical model, no issues ever. Run you about 470.

I have both a Rock island and a ATI, never a hiccup from either. When I first got my RIA I had about 3 fail to chambers and they wer from poorly reloaded rounds. Since then I have put well over 2000 rounds of both high quality, reloads, and cheap Russian crap through it with no problem.

I paid $375 used for my RIA GI but new I have see as cheap as $409
As for the AIT I picked that one up on Sale from Buds gunshop online, was $420ish plus $20 from my FFL. very pleased with it.

At this point I have 3 1911s and almost enough parts for a 4th

what about a benelli m2?

i like the idea of a recoil operated shotgun rather than gas, perhaps.

maybe too pricey... def cant afford an m4.

anyone have any experience with these?

id also appreciate you guys valuing this 9mm ammo im thinking of grabbing:

"Here's the 9mm breakdown
300 rds American Eagle
100 rds of Remington
100 rds Speer Lawman
50 rds UMC
All 9mm is FMJ"

this was from an online ad, if you could give me a dollar amount id be grateful!

If you shop around retail is around $12 a box for 9mm fmj and the Speer goes for about $35-40 per 50.

^^ see if you can find a Beretta 1201fp if you want an M4 like gun at a lower cost. I am 99% sure they use the same auto loading technology and I have picked up two for around $500 each. Not always the easiest to find but it is a sweet shooting gun.

^^^I have fairly extensive experience with the Benelli M4, the M2 not so much.

I specifically bought the 930 because I couldn't afford a Benelli auto. The M2 seems on the surface to be just as reliable.

^^^, ^^^^ Speer Lawman is the fmj and only goes for $15/50 or so. The $35-50 is for Speer Gold Dot (which you can get at Lawmen's for ~$25/50 instead of the inflated prices elsewhere)

or save my money and buy it w/o it in the first place

j/k dude. always good to see new folks getting into guns.

currently I'm waiting for a 9mm RIA tactical to arrive at my local FFL

I'll be interested to see how it feeds HPs, I may send it off to RIA to have them ramp/polish the barrel (for free)

so to answer your question, there is no reason not to buy that right now

nrr,....only reason that I can think of is if you like the ATI 1911 they have for like $389.....I think it has a shorter barrel and that's the only real difference....other than brand...

just get a chronograph and plug the bullet weight and velocity into the formula

but google doesn't turn much up

roll your own and blow the gun up

well i am weak and bought the benelli m2.

they had exactly the one i wanted in stock at my store, took a trade at a higher value that i ever thought, and had a factory extended mag tube on it.

it had rifle sights instead of ghost rings... yeah i think im in love.

have taken it apart 3 times and put it back together... italians really know what theyre doing with this inertia system. makes me wonder why all american semiautos are gas?

hmm...

anyway, it was still a pretty penny. i think im done on guns for awhile

best way to make major?
shoot a 45, or a 40, or a 38 super, or a 357 sig, which is just a way to make a 38 super and have lower round count in a magazine...

put 100 rounds through your M2 in a couple hours shooting clays and you'll understand why people like gas operated shotguns. the simplified cleaning is paid for by wear and tear on your shoulder.

With that being said, I intend to buy either an M2 or an SBEII in the next month or so.

so, it's too fucking hot to reload in the garage and my reloading bench was too big to get into one of the spare bedrooms, so i bought a husky bench like this on craigslist:

it was a military guy near fayetteville who had just moved and was getting rid of a bunch of stuff. we got to talking and i ended up buying a bunch of 45 ACP too. TZZ 85 headstamp. google says it's IMI that the US military used to buy.
