I don't understand why everyone is oogling over Norm Chow. He's too freakin old to have no HC experience

I'd rather have O'Brien to Jimbo Fisher personally, but I'm pissed we didn't get PJ

Can anyone tell me why the Boston College Coach seems to be > Fisher and PJ?

Is there something that makes tom the focus?

a good article from StateFansNation:

http://www.statefansnation.com/index.php/archives/2006/12/06/sfns-take-tob-pj/

Quote :
"SFN’s Take: TOB > PJ

SFN has been hearing from a variety of sources that Boston College head man Tom O’Brien has emerged as a serious contender for the NC State job. As you may know, O’Brien has taken some heat from the Eagle faithful for not being able to get BC over the proverbial hump. While we agree that O’Brien may have maxed out what he is able to accomplish in Beantown, we do not believe that his ceiling would necessarily be limited at NC State.

O’Brien is supposedly willing to make a move because Boston is a pro sports town, almost exclusively. BC also has a small alumni base, which has led to good Eagle teams getting subpar bowl bids. The argument is that better bowls would lead to more recruiting momentum, as would a thriving, college-town environment - and ultimately, a chance at more success at NC State.

Of course, you might note that you could say the same thing about Paul Johnson. There is some truth to that. However, we believe that Tom O’Brien has some clear advantages over PJ - (i) BCS conference experience; (ii) has recruited at least some premium athletes; (iii) less potential to be negatively recruited against successfully; and (iv) a stronger staff (with pretty remarkable continuity).

O’Brien is no spring chicken, but young enough (58) to have a good ten year run at NC State. Plus, we already know his likely “floor” - 7-9 win seasons, which would at least get NC State into good bowl games periodically. We also think that it is reasonable to hope for greater success (contention for ACC titles) with a fresh start and a different environment to work in. Is it guaranteed? No. But nobody is going to be a sure thing here. SFN thinks that O’Brien would be a very good choice."

i almost completely agree with their point-of-view

i think the bowl game situation is key and PackBacker said it best.

Looks like it's going to be O'Brien...unless Johnson agrees to a reasonable salary.

With NC State's past failures with assistant coaches, I think we were really focusing on candidates with head coaching experience.

Dear SFN,

PJ could never recruit someone with NFL talent.

Sincerely,
Kyle Eckel

and soon to be coming to a NFL commissioner's exempt list - Adam Ballard

Seriously, the fact that PJ brought in a guy to Navy who is now in the NFL speaks more of his coaching ability than 10,000 NFL guys from BC ever would. That shits expected from a place like BC.

i seriously think whoever threw his name out was just covering up.

maybe they got him confused with Johnson since they are both coaching in the MCC bowl

could be wrong but I think its a big ploy

I still dont think you can beat Jimbo Fisher and the Auburn DC as a package combo. That seems better than anything that we are supposedly looking at right now. Much better than PJ. Even if Jimbo came alone for some reason (which I highly doubt as they were going to go to UNC before, I'd assume they'd offer the same here) he seems to be the better pick over TO and PJ as he has BCS experience and has much more room to grow/potential. If not him then I hope they keep up the cover stories to make us keep guessing and then in 4 weeks tell us the Chin is comming home!!!

^^exactly, here's another from one of the BC boards:

Quote :
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I just realized that Toby is walking in as the 4th best coach in the State (behind Grobe, Butch Davis and Skip Holtz). Ohhhh man!!! NCS's last second hail mary has karma really biting them on the ass right now."

Quote :

I bet recruiting "Kiwi" to play in Boston was easy. And Matt Ryan winning All-ACC and QB of the Year in the ACC says that he can make a second rate squad look good. Plus, if you get a chance, look at the facilities he had to get kids to play in.
