^ I kind of agree, it seemed out of place for him. He directed this episode (is this strange?) and maybe he is trying to give himself a portfolio with more range than just stoic military ship captain.

I dont think its out of character. Hes had his breakdowns before. He just reached his emotional breaking point with the ship. I'm sure he will be back to form next episode as galactica goes on its final mission. I would be incredibly surprised if he doesn't die going down with the ship.

Yeah, 2 hour finale. There's also the TV movie Battlestar Galactica: The Plan in June, isn't there?

This last episode rocked. 10/10, top 95th percentile as far as episodes go. Sets up the series finale so hard for rocking like nobody's business. Directing was spectacular. Very well written. Mary McDonnell finally got a chance to show how great of an actress she can be.

Questions left to answer
How did Kara find earth? What's the deal with her?
What's the deal with Hera's drawings?
Will Athena ever stop her crying?
What's the truth of the opera house dream that we've been seeing since the end of season 1?
What's the point of the flashbacks? Are they just doing this to setup the Caprica spinoff?
Why did Anders tell the final 5 to stay with the fleet, and what was it that was about to happen?

Just got finished watching it. The more I think about it, the more I like it. Definitely going to have to watch it again. The last scenes with Adama and Roslin was pretty wretching to watch; definitely got a little misty eyed there. I love how they tied it in with prehistoric humanity, and didn't do anything cheesy like having the Galactica and crew land on current day Earth. Also love how they alluded to how we are currently on the upswing of creating sentient life in machines and continuing the cycle. This show was just amazing, frakking amazing.

The best series finale Ive ever seen. Probably the most intense 2 hours of television Ive ever seen. And definitely the greatest series in the history of television.

Obviously there were a few holes and unanswered questions, such as Daniel and what Kara is (although I think it was implied she was basically the same as head Six, except everyone could see her), but I couldnt have asked for anything more. So many great "holy fuck" moments...I just get over how awesome it was.
