Star Trek (2009) is better then Star Trek II (1982)

No discussion needed.

eh, both good for their own reasons. Here's rotten tomatoes ranking:

Star Trek XI 95%
Star Trek FC 91%
Star Trek II 90%
Star Trek IV 84%
Star Trek VI 82%
Star Trek III 76%
Star Trek Ins. 55%
Star Trek 1 50%
Star Trek Gen. 49%
Star Trek Nem. 36%
Star Trek V 21% (Shatner shouldn't direct)

yeah that's pretty great

I can't believe nobody else I know thought of that, we were even talking about Tuvok since he probably should have been alive in the new movie.

Slightly related: wtf does a vulcan have to do to get promoted?!?

I liked it, it probably would look pretty damn good at IMAX too

what I'd like to see is a side-by-side picture comparison of the old/young enterprise crew like if they had some posed scene in the movie that was just the way they stood back in the day too

The soundtrack for this movie was awesome. The theme that plays after the destruction of the Kelvin into the movie title gives me chills.

Amok Time music FTW

But yeah, the whole scene with the Kelvin was a brilliant start.

That whole first scene made me think about how the movie ratings have changed. It was extremely violent and while you don't see the exact moment that the spear impales the first captain it panned back to his vitals immediately turning red and TERMINATED.

It was slightly disturbing. In a good way. It just blows my mind that that shit is PG-13 but if a tit gets flashed it's rated R. Fucking ass-backwards puritans.

Good News! it's back at the IMAX showing Friday and Saturday at 11:15 pm

I think it stopping had to do with a conflicting contract with that retarded 'Night at the Museum 2'

^ it was supposed to be a "limited" release, but I'm gonna guess limited means until the showings stop making shittons of money in this case

In case there's anybody left on the planet who hasn't seen this yet, we're picking it up at Galaxy Cinema starting tomorrow. Showtimes are 1:00, 4:00, 7:00, and 9:40.

You don't even have to know who they are. The movie introduces the characters and is a reboot of the series. If you don't know any of the characters at all from pop-culture you would still be okay, though I guess you would miss some of the more subtle things.

My dad and I have always like Star Trek, but my mom knew a little bit about it (i.e. Kirk, Spock, and some of the original crew) and we all loved it.

After going back and watching I-VI, something occured to me that I don't think has been mentioned in this thread...

Could the need for a new Vulcan home world be the new initiative purpose for the Genesis project?

i'd think they would be more likely to do stuff from the series than the movies... the movie era was many years after the series era stuff, and this new franchise is before the original. it would be a big jump to go straight to the movie stuff.

All the original things that happened in XI:

time travel
pissed off romulans
telling people about their inventions/discoveries before they are supposed to invent/discover them
kirk fucked a green chick
spock does shit that vulcans don't do
mutiny

and of course

red shirt died

Khan was from the original tv series.

yeah no kidding, but WRATH of khan was from the movies... if they were going to do WRATH of khan, he would have to have a reason to be mad at kirk in the first place, like in the original timeline.

Was there an uncredited cameo by Colm Meaney in this film? My friend and I are having a bet.
