I don't know if the its the defense or the offense. I'll go on a limb and say it's the bad defense. Bad defense leads to bad offense.

3rd quarter has always been the key in this series. They lose the 3rd again and it's over.

Why can the opposing bench yell as a Laker is taking a 3-pointer? Has anyone else noticed this?

you know...I think there's been a lot more defense in this series which is good for the NBA because there never is and it sucks...so at least we're making progress here...but if I see one more BLATANT travel I swear I'm gonna scream

If you're talking about Pierce, it wasn't a travel. Not even really close... but I can see how a novice NBA fan might think it was...

I'm not talking about right now...I'm talking like in the 3rd quarter or something I happened to notice a BLATANT travel by Pierce because they replayed that shit in slo motion and he took no less than 4 steps. Is that not a travel? Because perhaps I missed something somewhere.

Kobe didn't even touch the ball on that 'steal'

just kinda reached in and slapped Pierce's stomach lol

yeah, I freely admit that we didn't deserve this win. And unless we play absolutely brilliant ball in the next 2 games...and don't blow 15+ point leads...then we won't deserve to win the title either.

Plus, a riot might be nice...you know...throw some excitement into the city

That steal was total bullshit, and I'm cool with that. I know that's how the games goes. But when they show it over and over again, calling it a "great steal," it just gets old.

Also, Kobe needs to shut his pretty face about the Celetics and free throws.

As far as the "BLATANT travels" go, I'm kinda used to that. I wouldn't mind seeing the BLATANT technicals get called. Kobe talks shit to and puts his hands on everyone, including the refs. He's such a creep.

Hey....I'm all for calling technicals and travels. The lack of those and the lack of consistent defensive play is the #1 reason why I love college hoops and can't stand NBA. Even though I'm a native L.A.er (for all intents and purposes) I've never LOVED the Lakers but I went to school with Luke Walton so that's the excuse I'm giving myself.

What's your point? I'm from L.A., I went to college at UA like Luke Walton. Explain to me where the confusion is

^It depends. Very interesting developments now with the combination of the exploitation of rondo via kobe help that absolutely destroys the celtics offense to the point where they get down 20 if hes on the court and the absence of Perkins that isolates kg and allows lamar and Gasol to be factors has become the equalizer for the lakers. If they take out rondo, they lose the stability of a pg and have chaotic offense with turnovers. Pierce had his best game, Kobe had his worst, everyone else was standard and the lakers still won. The home court argument holds no ground anymore because they stopped officiating pro-home team after the donagay scandal surfaced.

If everything else stays the same and Kobe and Paul have average games, I can easily see the Lakers winning game six.

Yeah, but Kobe has had is "worst" game like 3 times this series and twice against the Celtics in the regular season. I really don't think you can count on him playing better next game as a given. In all honesty, with Kobe playing poorly, the Celtics are a much better team.

Everything else was "standard"?

Ray Allen has been killing it this series and he's 4-13?

Kevin Garnett played okay but was in foul trouble and only played 33 minutes.

The Celtics got absolutely nothing from their reserves.

Then the Lakers get great games from Gasol and Odom, who have been pretty shitty the whole series.

Not exactly "standard". The only outlier was Pierce blowing the fuck-up. If the Celtic don't blow their load again in the first quarter, they should take game 6.

Something seems wrong with Kobe. I don't know what it is, but he hasn't seemed like the same Mamba we all know and love this series.

I think a lot has to do with the Celtics defense. They played him one-on-one in the first quarter and he dropped 15 and hit five threes.

Then they double him for the majority of the rest of the game (and they are doubling him way out on the perimeter with two very good defenders) and he has to distribute the ball and hope his teammates can make it happen.

yeah, the Celts have been keeping 2-3 guys around Kobe the whole series to contain him. Their entire defense is based on not letting Kobe get hot.

I too wouldn't be surprised to hear Kobe has some sort of nagging lower body injury that he's kept quiet throughout this series. Or maybe it's just that pinky that needs surgery catching up with him. Still, I put a lot of the blame on his teammates not taking advantage of the fact that they are wide open 90% of the time when they catch the ball. Also, kudos to Jordan Farmar for being the only Laker with the balls to attack the rim. Odom should be embarrassed.

odom attacks the rim too often if anything... he looks completely uncoordinated every time he does too.

Or maybe he's playing against the best defense in the NBA. I mean...it could be either...

I'm sure the defense isn't helping matters, but he doesn't seem as fired up as usual. It's not the same Kobe as earlier this year, there's no killer instinct.

the lakers are only prolonging their death... the odds of the beating a clearly superior team 4 games in a row is of an astronomical probability.

3 games.....

Anyway, I would tend to agree, but there are a couple factors you have to consider.

Perkins pretty much confirmed to be out for Game 6 is huge. You could see the difference in Gasol and Odom's play with him out of the line up.

Rondo has been playing like shit.

Pierce just played 48 minutes and now has to turn around and deliver in Game 6.

The Celtics have also played more 5 more games than the Lakers in this playoffs, and they aren't exactly a young team. That gives the Lakers an above average shot to steal Game 6 and put all the pressure right back on Celtics. Despite the Celtics being the "better team", every game in this series has come down to the last couple possessions. I don't think anything is a given.

pierce is not really that good to me. hes a GREAT team player, but all of those lay-ups he made were due to him trying to draw a foul, and the lakers tried to avoid sending him to the line. even at the line it seems like its a chore for him to make his shots, albeit he makes most of them.

kobe is actually good tho. thats the difference. 1v1 he pierce would like a college player playing a pro. the only player in the nba that i think can really beat, or might be just better, kobe in 1v1 is garnett. just my opinion. garnette has that classical basketball game, and i really like his style and ball handling.

true, but 1v1 is a whole game by itself. however, boston is so strong because they have great team players, such as garnette and pierce. rebounds, and kicks the ball back out for his teammate to make a 3, garnette has that shit on lock. and he can make a bucket or three, and his free throws are money.
