TOB is a good coach, and i'm sorry that we got devastated with injuries and a very young secondary.

Archer is definitely questionable, and I wouldn't be sad to see him go. We will see how it plays out this year.

The defense will be better this year, I don't see how it can't be.

You people continue to annoy the crap outta me. Last season, during the summer, we lost TWO of our secondary starters AND Irving crashed his car and left for the season. That's three positions we filled with young, under prepared players some of whom were out of their comfort position and admittedly struggled in the system. It wasn't the system that made them look slow, and it's not because they were slow. They sucked because they were trying to get into the pace of the college game and figure out how to play defense in TOB's defense...

I don't forgive TOB for being THAT terrible last season, but football (very unlike basketball) has a requirement that EVERY player on the field be able to do his job well. You especially can't take two people out of your defensive secondary and expect a bunch of rookies to come in and play well when a couple steps or one miscommunication is all it takes to get a easy as cake 20 yard pass down the field.

Earl Wolff, Jarvis Byrd, Brandan Bishop, Rashard Smith, and C.J. Wilson were all freshman last year.

Expect them to be better now that they have some more experience and a whole offseason of getting their asses whipped into shape. I don't mean expect them to be a top 10 defense, but expect that with a passable defense (which I think they will be) and our offense that had a great time producing last year (several games were just shoot outs) that we will be better.

You can't expect success out the gate. You gotta work toward it. And TOB has had to put up with some sincere NC State shit... But give the man some credit, he seems to be putting together a team that can be SUSTAINABLY good down the road. He's just gotta get everything to come together at once.

PS - he beat carolina every year, which is also bonus points.

don't try to talk to these fools with logical arguments

TOB was supposed to take our JUGGERNAUT 3-9 team with Amato and take us to the ACC championship game, season ending injuries be damned. People are just pissed because they bought into the hype last year.

we are heading in the right direction, but sure, lets just clean house and start from scratch, that'll be helpful.

I'm not jumping ship yet, but questions will have to be asked if the defense continues to be atrocious and the scheme/dc is not changed.

People keep saying that phrase like mainstream media on repeat.

"If the defense continues to be atrocious they are in trouble"

Do you think? You think TOB didn't notice that they were awful? Expect him to just shrug and walk in to next season with absolutely no more preparation than they had last time? Fucking Christ, the defense WILL be better.

Also, YOU have no idea if the scheme needs to be changed. Stop parroting that phrase. MAYBE the players just need to learn the damn scheme. MAYBE the players just need some more conditioning. MAYBE the problem was not the coaching, it was the skill.

MAYBE you should pick some other reasons to hate on TOB, because that one has been played out.

^^^ It's not played out at all, actually. Archer has not had any notable success at the college level, yet he was our hire. Since then, our defense has been, by far, the worst part of our team continually. TOB refuses to make a change on the defensive side of the ball. When exactly does TOB have to bear responsibility for that aspect of the team?

There is a reason it is played out, genius. Our defense will be fucking terrible again, and you'll be on here once again driving home your pitiful excuses for the lack of accountability.

why dont you fucking wait for this year until you talk about how shitty the defense will be

Mike Archer -
College - 2007 Wolfpack defense ranked 25th nationally in passing efficiency defense.

In 2006 at Kentucky, with 16 of his top 22 players either freshmen or sophomores, Archer’s defensive unit forced 28 turnovers, as the Wildcats ranked fifth nationally in turnover margin. The squad finished its season with a win over Clemson in the Music City Bowl, posting a 4-2 turnover advantage.

Was the youngest Division I-A head coach when named at LSU in 1987. In his four seasons in that capacity, he led the Tigers to a 27-18-1 mark, two bowl games and the 1988 Southeastern Conference title. In his three seasons as an LSU assistant, the Tigers posted a 26-8-2 mark and played in three bowl games.

Member of Miami staff when Hurricanes won 1983 national championship

Coached a pair of two-time Pro Bowl selections (Jason Gildon, Levon Kirkland) and two other selections (Joey Porter and Kendrell Bell). Kendrell Bell was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. Coach for Steeler defense that led NFL in rushing defense in 2002. Pittsburgh won four divisional championships during his tenure.

Has never had success at the college level, or over sensationalized sense of failure after DEVASTATING LOSSES IN HIS DEFENSIVE BACKFIELD/SECONDARY CAUSED HIM TO HAVE A ROUGH SEASON?

The man is not a retard at defense. He has just had some bad luck, give him a break.

And it's not about who recruited them or how good they may be. It's about how young they were and the role they were very suddenly required to fill their freshman year in a world where most really good players get a redshirt season to learn how to play.

Dude, I'm on your side about giving TOB a chance to improve the defense. But you need to stop. Saying...

Quote :
"In 2006 at Kentucky, with 16 of his top 22 players either freshmen or sophomores, Archer’s defensive unit forced 28 turnovers, as the Wildcats ranked fifth nationally in turnover margin."

and not mentioning...
Quote :
"
The Wildcats were 118th in total defense when Brown took over in 2007. That number climbed to 67th following his first year and 40th in 2008. After being 99th in scoring defense before Brown took the reigns, the Cats finished 35th last fall."

Is just ign'ant.

I don't know the answer to that question. Let's ask Thaddeus Lewis.

Yeah... we really did shit ourselves...

its like we get too nervous to move the ball when we are protecting a lead.

I really wish we could keep a "just go for it attitude" the entire game

I'm mad though we should have one this game for at least 30 reasons and we found a way to blow all of them...

its sad.

We need to start realizing that without Ponder's help, we'd be in a 3-game losing streak and 4 out of last 5 would have been losses. How different are we right now if we're 5-4 instead of 6-3?

All credibility is out the window for me. You can't not lose games, you need to win games. Every loss we have, we've had the lead in the 2nd half. Finishing games is all on coaching. Unfortunately, I've seen this team outcoached in the 2nd half way too many times this year. If we can't win 2 of our last 3, he needs to go.

41 points in the final 3 quarters by VT does not equal "a handful of plays"
