This new record from The Radio Dept. got a good review on Pitchfork today; I think it's pretty good. Sounds to me like a more traditional jj: less electronic, more rock(The Radio Dept. is also Swedish). Good textures.

yes i know. the point is they have a lot of great stuff. if you're looking for layers and textures you're not gonna find a whole lot of it with the black keys, but they do a lot with what they've got.

I don't not like it because I'm "looking for layers and textures," whatever that means. I'm not saying their music isn't good; it just doesn't click with me. The White Stripes do a lot with what they've got and their music isn't complex in the slightest, but they were my favorite band for the longest time and I still love them.

There's no reason for it; it just doesn't fully click with me.

I actually do like this new Black Keys. Sounds more varied than some of their other stuff.

Production is really good on it. Did Dangermouse work on this one too?

Jack White does a lot with what he's got. Not The White Stripes. Because Meg White is the worst fucking drummer on the planet, and is totally carried by Jack's amazing guitar skills.


It's fine if you aren't into the Black Keys, some folks aren't. I happen to like RL Burnside and Junior Kimbrough just as much, so they strike a chord with me. But I just wanted to point out that The White Stripes are what they are because Jack White is one of the best musicians of our time.

People underestimate the contribution that Meg White makes to the band's sound. I won't argue that she's a great drummer, but the White Stripes wouldn't sound nearly as ferocious with a different drummer.

I will argue that you could put any basic-ass kid drummer in that band and it would sound exactly the same.

and, all this debate about the Black Keys may make me check this album out --- they really bored me on their last one. I barely even took notice of the latest Black Keys and Band of Horses album leaks because each of their last albums were a bit uneventful, especially Band of Horses. Their last one was horrible.
