i've easily done 10 times that playing wow

180 for a game of this scope with replay value spanning years is a pretty good deal

How long does it take to complete the game in Nerd time? Multiply that times five and that's how long it would take a normal person to finish the game LOL.

So it actually does save your single player progress online so you can access it from other computers.

I can only wonder what this game would look like on "Ultra" graphics @ >30fps.... "

If you don't mind me askin, what kind of hardware do you have? I don't think my outdated laptop (5 years old ) would be able to handle this, but it'd be nice to see what it needs.

Are you going to constantly replay the campaign missions over the years?

Or will you be playing the multiplayer that is probably 90% in this version, while each other versions will probably add a few units and maps

You also have to take into consideration the retail cost versus production cost of games. Games have generally stayed the same price over the last 10 years ($50-60) whereas production costs have gone from 10s of thousands to millions. I'd easily pay for each installment.

^yes but the consumer base has also exploded.

You get 1/3 of the 'story', not the game.

I do hope that they dont charge a full 60 for the protoss and zerg continuations. I realize they will be patching and balancing multiplayer throughout, but we have already paid once for the ability to play multiplayer.

39.99 for each follow up is what im hoping for, but doubt.

I did have a problem with paying $180 for the entire trilogy, but after seeing the actual game, if the other two installments have this much content in them I will gladly fork it over.

I've paid $60 for some games that I played a week or two, and been ok with those purchases.

I would consider SC2 to be my favorite "build" of game. I can sit down, play for 30 minutes going after a very specific achievement, and then be done for the day. Each campaign mission/challenge is so self-contained that I don't have to remember what I was doing the night before. I have a lot of issues playing something like Zelda or other RPGs where you have to remember what mission/quest line you are on for days or weeks at a time. Stopping play for a week really throws a wrench into the works on those type of games.

I don't see myself burning out on the single player game for months, much less multiplayer.

I never enjoyed RTS games on consoles.....

Having to use a controller to selects units, commands, and give directions is a pain in the ass versus using a mouse and keyboard shortcuts.

Yeah, I'll probably replay the missions for this version until the next installment comes out, wash rinse repeat. I've heard nothing but good reviews of the single-player content, so I'm pretty excited to get to it. WCIII came out years ago and I still play though it regularly.

And if I had to wager anything on it, I'd say the multiplayer will change over the course of the different expansion releases. New units will get added, and things will be rebalanced that will probably render current strategies obsolete.

Agreeing with the previous posters, the single player is great. Now with achievements, it'll be better.

SC1 I have played many times on replay. I try different strats and sometimes I try to kill enemies your not suppose to kill. I've already done several missions in SC2 where there are many bases left up at the end. Will be interesting to see if I can take those out over the missions.

Do the achievements actually unlock new gameplay features or are they just a part of a checkoff list toward a goal of 100% completion? If the later I don't see how it adds anything.

^^ it adds a challenge. Its a game right? It tells you the rules and you play to beat them. You gain achievement points as well as other stuff (like character portraits for online play, etc).

Some of them have already sparked discussion about strategy in this thread. You dont see any value there?

It doesn't really add challenge. You can always play a match where you decide that you're going to try to win without losing so much as one soldier (or whatever). You don't need an achievement to do that.

I guess you only need an achievement to prove to someone else that you've done certain things, so I really don't see it as adding to (or taking from I might add) my enjoyment of the game.

You haven't played the game.

There are specific challenges, maps and missions set up specifically for those achievements.

Soem of the achievements are just medals, but lots of them are for these specific challenges, or using harder difficulty/optional objectives for the campaign.

Or, its to give everyone a common goal and topic of strategy and conversation. You're trying very hard if you honestly can't see the benefit to an in depth achievement system.

For those of us that pretty much just play the mult-player it will suck to pay for just a few units/maps especially since I don't care to play any of the missions. Would be nice if you could just patch the mutli-player part and just buy the additional parts if you want the single player missions. Although if it keeps bnet free I guess it is a wash in the long run.

So far not a huge fan of the ladder system. I liked the way they did it in Warcraft 3 much better, not sure why they didn't do that. Overall ladder in War3 just seemed more user friendly, easier to track other players and opponents and such. So like right now I'm 42nd in a group of 100 gold players, don't even really know what that means. Is there a way to see who is like 1st in the highest ladder(diamond I'm guessing?) Just seems like they made a complicated system for something that really doesn't have to be that complicated, unless I'm missing something with it...

The only really successful RTS console game was Halo Wars. That was mostly because they were able to simplify it all. You don't have to make workers. You have a 40/50 food max. (too much more and the game would probably lag) Simple counter system. (Soft Counter: Tanks beat infantry which beat air which beat tanks. Then you have hard counter units)

It still had it's problems (before any patches warthogs countered everything and being the prophet meant you won) but in its prime it had 50K people playing multiplayer (better than any non-major shooter non-sports game) and kept 20K for about a year. Last I checked it still peaks at 12K but most of the top players have left.

If anyone wants to play some nexus wars (my regular game isn't polished enough for me to hit the ladders yet) my email for the blizzard account is erictheross@gmail.com so add me

he's talking about APM in the 2 and 3 hundreds... you can be pro at SC2 with APM averaging in the mid 100s. Only way that extra 100 APM will be doing anything other than spamming is if you hotkey EVERYTHING and can do 95% of your macro off screen allowing you to micro 100% of your battles without having to look back to your base for anything but building new buildings.

^^I wonder how high tester or irda or TLO's APM is. It'll go up in the 300s during intense microbattles I think, but it averages closer to high 100s I'd bet

Just finished the Single Player campaign on "Hard" finishing w/ 595 achievement points. Not bad, but some of the achievements are broken. There were several I completed but weren't credited for. I believe Bnet must've temporarily crapped out Probably would've ended up around 700 pts. O well...

Does anyone know how many total achievement points you can earn in the single player? My guess is 2000.

@ ThePeter: my hardware on my laptop:

Dell E1505
Dual Core @ 1.66 GHz
Windows 7
2GB DDR2 RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 (128MB)
320GB Hard Drive @ 7200rpm

I run on "Low." The odd thing is: my friend I play with who has an integrated graphics card on a 2-yr-old Dell laptop is having crashing problems during intense moments. I finished the campaign today...no crashes! Good luck!

Since I am at work, and most sites are blocked i will ask this here.

I need to play 5 placement matches to get into the quick match stuff. Could I play 1v1 vs a friend and have it count? Or does it have to randomly find me an opponent?

When they drop the post-launch 3D patch, I'm planning on getting a new monitor and video card to try it out. Depending on how it's implemented, it could be really awesome. I was imagining them doing something like floating the HUD away from the screen, having explosions fly out at you, shit like that.

It has to be a quick match against random opponents. This is the new ladder system so it wouldn't be fair if you can play against friends and have it count. Someone could just buy two accounts and pad their way to number 1.

So you actually get placed on the ladder after the placement matches? Ladder matches I can understand being random, but if you cheesed the placement matches you'd only be hurting yourself so I wasn't sure.
