Excited about Thanksgiving day football for the first time in years- Cowboys and NO should be a fun game to watch. The only reason I'm bringing this up is because I just read that they figured out the halftime show (Keith Urban)- which really means nothing to me 10/25/2010 8:03:59 PM |

Ouch.
I'm a bit confused as to why some people act like Eli is a good QB. Middle of the pack at the very best. 2009 was his best year but he seems to have regressed again this year.
Phil has had a much better career and it's not even close...

I give him credit for having a nice three games that year. I guess it's really a case of me having a ton of Giants fans who are so blindly ignorant they constantly argue that he is a "hall of fame lock" and absolutely TRASH Rivers every chance they get... I mean you can't really argue legitimately with anyone that says any Manning brother but Peyton will be a HOFer so I should just let it go.
I bet Eli and Cooper will enjoy seeing Peyton's induction, though. 10/25/2010 10:45:01 PM |

He did play a great in the NFC championship game, but if it wasn't for a ridiculous dropped interception and maybe the greatest catch in football history, he would have been the Superbowl goat. (goat may be too strong)
I do think he is definitely a top 15 quarterback. 10/25/2010 10:46:52 PM |

And of course the inexplicable give up on the sack. Basically the pussification of the NFL helped him there since everyone was terrified of actually putting a QB on the ground. 10/25/2010 10:48:11 PM |

Eli puts his team in position to win. He is smart, a great leader, and picks up his teammates when they need it. I'm not saying Rivers doesn't do those things, but give Eli credit where it is due. I would rather have him as my QB than all but maybe 4 or 5 current starters on other teams.
As stated, 2009 was Eli's best year, but it was the only year he has played a full season and not made the playoffs. If it wasn't for all the defensive fuck ups, it could have been an amazing season. This year, Eli has more offensive weapons and the team has returned to the balanced running game. Plus he doesn't need to be a statistical beast with the defense doing what it has.
So my question is why do you act like he ISN'T a good QB? You don't even have to consider him great, but he is good.
This game was nowhere near as close as it looked. There were 10 points off of two tipped passes and a blown assignment on kickoff coverage...other than those very few mistakes this was a huge victory for the Giants (31 straight unanswered points between the 2nd and 3rd quarters). Then Dallas scored two touchdowns in garbage time when the game was out of reach and the Giants were just bending without breaking.
Wasn't Dallas' defense ranked in the top 5 before tonight? The Giants once again destroy statistical standings.10/26/2010 1:38:21 AM |

Dallas pretty much laid down once Romo went down and they put the reins on Kitna in his first two drives. It was kinda sad to watch.

I know you weren't using those to argue that Eli didn't make mistakes...but he did throw the ball high on both of those passes. They weren't tipped at the line.
All that being said...I think Eli has gotten a lot better the last few years and is a very solid, good QB. I'd definitely put him in the top 10...probably closer to 10. He manages the game pretty well and can make some good throws. I don't think he's going to win you a lot of games by himself, but now that he has weapons, he can put up some good numbers. He might add another Super Bowl or two before it's all said and done.10/26/2010 8:29:55 AM |

If Jerry doesn't get rid of Wade soon we have no hope. (1) The whole deal with Wade is that he once was a defensive guru. Well last night, it looked like Mike Archer calling the defense out there... soft zone and very little blitzing. When we did blitz, we had Gerold f'n Sensabaugh or Orlando Scandrick guarding Nicks. Nicks is obviously their best receiver and I don't know why Newman or Jenkins wasn't matched up against him instead of our nickel corner or a marginal safety at best. (2) Oh how do you not kick that FG!!!!!!! Look Wade ‘Eeyore’ Phillips, we are down 3 scores. It's the only time we have been on the Giants side of the 50 since Kitna has come into the game and we are going to have to stop them from here on out anyways to have a chance! Yes, hind sight is 20/20, but if we would have kicked the FG there we could have kicked it deep instead of going for the onside, if we hold them (like we did, except they were in FG range) and score a TD(like we did) then it's a tied ballgame. (3) Have you not learned your lesson with trying to get TD at the end of the half! Look we had a 20-7 lead and the Giants came back to take the lead 21-20. The back-up QB is in the game and has been ineffective/Garrett has been calling worthless shit for him since he got in. Was it Kitna's fault that we turned the ball over? No, but just stop the bleeding and get into the locker room to regroup. We get the ball to start the second half and we can start from there. (4) Have some damn passion out there for once. "Awww Shucks, here we go again. But we were up 20-7 at one point in time that’s good"
With that said Jason Garrett needs to be shown the door too. I know he has been picked as the successor and Jerry has been paying him $texas to stay, but over the past couple of years he has shown he isn't the right man for the job. (1) In the first game against the Skins he had the reigns on Tony Romo and we threw 5-10 WR or RB screens in the first two drives. I mean come on Garrett, you have a top 10 QB with experience and you are going to make him throw screens all day. (2) He never balances the play calling. We have one the most explosive running backs in the game, but we don't give him the touches necessary to be effective. Instead of running these screens all day, how about trying to hand the ball off and going to a different run play besides the draw. (3) Our Red Zone offense has been awful! If we score 7 after that second interception, it’s a whole new ball game, but once again Garrett shows that once inside the 20 he can’t figure out a way to get anymore yards. (4) Putting Kitna in 3rd and long situations all night isn't a winning formula. In Kitna’s first two drives, he called draw plays and 1 PA pass before third down. How about some quick throws over the middle on first or second down instead? Oh, wait you finally realized that in the 4th Q, when Kitna had to go to hurry up.
Honestly, I think we should clean house and only keep Joe DeCamillis, the special teams coach. He is the only one who has shown any adjustments all season and actually looks like he wants to win.
