It would be cool if they did a cheaper VIP club only wrist band next year.

there is absolutely no reason for them to do that

the VIP party doesn't cost them that much

I meant for people who could pass on city plaza but still want to skip the line at clubs.

I, too, have desired a club-only VIP pass, but the general VIP is worth it even when I'm underwhelmed by the City Plaza shows.

I enjoyed Hopscotch just from following this thread and trying out bands I had never heard of that got a lot of praise on here.

Bombadil in particular

did anyone in the world even see Dawn Golden & Rosy Cross? couldn't find a single thing about it on twitter or elsewhere. wonder if that was any good.

once again I kinda died on Saturday night, need to learn to pace myself next year. I guess drinking for 12-14 hours a day on Thursday & Friday will do that to you.

my favorite shows, in no order really: White Ring, Cold Cave, Birds of Avalon day party. also really enjoyed PC Worship, Braids, Toro Y Moi, Future Islands, Juliana Barwick, Invisible Hand late night show, probably more I can't remember. sad that I missed Mount Moriah, Yelawolf and Swans, heard great things about all three.

thought the Flaming Lips show was sort of lackluster, mostly just based on the songs they (didn't) play. didn't feel like it was a very high energy set, didn't have much flow. thought the Dodos were ok, didn't even bother with DBT and the parts of GBV I watched were shit. however, the whole point of the plaza shows was to get more people out that didn't buy wristbands, and I felt like both nights were busier than last year's shows, so that's fine. that's where they lost most of their money last year so I can see why they booked the bands they did.

I don't know if this link works, but WHITE RING. never seen anything so fucked up and awesome. the girl was terrifying, strung out on something. lit on a cigarette on stage at one point, didn't seem to know where she was: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10100262285030609

oh, and I have no idea what Mr Scrumples is talking about re: crowds. I had no problems with anyone all weekend. and the VIP band definitely was crucial again this year.

unrelated to the "club shows" only vip, but related to the festival itself ---- what i wish they would do would be to sell a "sight unseen" vip wristband.

we're into year 2 now. i, for one, have complete confidence in the festival going forward. give some folks who feel the same way have an opportunity to buy a wristband before the bands are even announced.

this works two-fold:

#1 rewards those who believe in the festival and grayson/greg's ability to pull this shit off and keep it current year after year

#2 it would help sway bands --- if you come to them and say, "this is our market, these are the great bands we've booked the last two years, and here's how many concert goers who have already committed on blind faith"....

i think it would go a long way towards convincing more and more acts, and making this festival become a less industry influenced sxsw.

i'm sure it's been thought of; neither of them are novices and both are obviously forward thinking. to me, it seems like a logical progression, but perhaps there's some unknown variable i haven't thought of, or maybe what i perceive could be some good leverage (eg. the blind vip sale) isn't as influential as i believe.

i don't know, i think just the festival getting bigger on it's own will cover the booking bands. already got flaming lips in year two. i think it's already going to continue grow as it is. Raleigh seems committed to making this an awesome event.

Nah, I'm way balder than that.

Also, I always stand in the doorway next to the stage at crowded Pour House shows. Best spot in the house.

Could just be sweat. My hair always gets a weird part in it when I'm sweaty. I was DRENCHED after that Titus Andronicus set. Totally worth it.

Also did anyone go to Chuck's at any point during the weekend? That Bear in Heaven burger hit the fucking spot at midnight or so on Friday.

i like this idea too - some kind of "hopscotch loyalty program" for people who want to continue to go year after year. there would have to be some additional perks though for the folks who pony up for VIP tix on blind faith though (not sure what those would be).

That's where I was for Cold Cave

and witness to the keyboardist flipping his shit about something right before they went on: it was quite an in-band fight on the stairwell for a couple minutes there

I threw up some photos on flickr. I didn't shoot as much this year as I did last year, and I didn't attend as many shows as I'd have liked (stupid fucking girl drama ruined shit for me) but I managed to get a few.

Well I was allegedly shooting for Brooklyn Vegan but they haven't posted them yet. If they don't post em by like tomorrow afternoon I'll just Flickr/FB them.

Did anyone check out the concert photography gallery? or Posterscotch? They were pretty cool.
