Given up on this game

Played a private region the other day with 3 cities i created and the game could not keep up with what was going on from city to city and was outrageously inconsistent - Utilities wouldn't work properly - Great work would complete, i'd switch cities, it wouldnt' be complete over there, I'd switch back and it would be back to half stats again

Fuck this.

They say it will be 2-3 weeks before the hackers crack the game and start to develop an offline version of it. They just de-compiled the source code this week and found out that the game is indeed tied into Amazon's servers for resource calculations that are server sided.

Even then, the game has flaws that make playing it frustrating after a point.

not paying 60 bucks that hackers need to crack just to make it playable.

The money I would have dropped on this I instead used $20 of today to get Borderlands 2, and tomorrow I will use $16 to get X-Com. I will have 2 almost new games that work and another $25 waiting for this buggy shitstorm to be patched and released at a bargain price.

Thanks to /vg/ someone pointed out that you can play Online regions of SC4 via dropbox. Anyone want to do this?

I'm Krallum and I approved this message.

Free DLC that adds the Nissan Leaf lol.

So I built the Brandenburg Gate in my city because I wanted German buildings to develop around it. They did not. They did, however, develop in random patches on the complete opposite end of town in my business district:

Pleased with how this city is coming along. Still enjoying this game despite its many many flaws.

^Same for me.

Also: http://www.simcity.com/en_US/blog/article/state-of-simcity

Quote :
"After months of testing, I confirm that we will not be providing bigger city sizes. The system performance challenges we encountered would mean that the vast majority of our players wouldn’t be able to load, much less play with bigger cities. We’ve tried a number of different approaches to bring performance into an acceptable range, but we just couldn’t achieve it within the confines of the engine. We’ve chosen to cease work on bigger city sizes and put that effort into continuing to evolve the core game and explore an offline mode. Some of the experiments we conducted to improve performance on bigger cities will be rolled into future updates to improve overall game performance. "

Started playing an free online simcity knock off, and it kinda got me interested, but I'm afraid to lay down $40 for a game that has so many problems.

How is simcity 4? Is it worth $20?

If they would add large maps, I might be interested. Otherwise, I'll pass until it hits the $5 bargain bin.

I was interested until I read about the online issues. This would be interesting now if they dropped the price to about $10-15

Eh, reviews on Cities XXL has been pretty negative as well. Looks like they just added Steam Workshop and multi-core support and re-released Cities XL, now with more X's!

http://www.incgamers.com/2015/02/cities-xxl-players-very-unhappy-with-new-focus-release

What about this one instead?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqQ0fNy0KZU

That looks like it could be good. It drops next month.

Cities: Skylines looks extremely promising. I've been following it for several months now and I think the developers know what they are doing. It could still turn out to be a dud but they've really been listening to the community. It seems like they've attempted to make the game that Sim City 2013 should have been.

Cities: XXL sounds TERRIBLE. Just read this shit: http://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/2uxr49/a_warning_to_all_people_thinking_of_buying_cities/

FYI Green Man Gaming has a VIP pricing for the game, so you can pre-purchase for $21.89!

I am seriously considering picking this and Starships up, as they have that for $11.39.

in other news I just fired up simcity on my i5 laptop with integrated graphics and it runs like a champ ...

a lot of the frustrations I had from before are lessened. and i feel like the tutorial is much more comprehensive ... IE things are explained in detail much more

obv Day[9] can be a bit of a doofus, so I didn't glean that much from his play through ... but I liked the logistics of cities a bit more than simcity, but it's also just "more" at some things ....

like simcity you have ot have water ... so you plop water and it spreads to your city... in skylines you have to lay water pipe to cover all of your city ....

you have to make bus routes and subway routes for public transport, in simcity you just plop bus stops to make everything green and ou're good to go...

shit like that

you can also expand around your city buying new plots of land the size of your original city... would be nice

Buying and laying water pipe doesn't bother me. I grew up on Simcity 2000 where that was pretty much a requirement. Seen that complaint in a couple of reviews. Nothing I'm going to give a shit about though.

oh no I think it's a benefit, not a detractor ...

I like that it feels like things in skylines are more "planned." districting in skylines actually works... if you district farming around air-able land and zone industry farms and slaughter houses will sprout up ... you can make the conscious effort to put shit where you want it in skylines, not just kinda plop down industry and say "game do what you will"

that's why I say skylines feels like "more." drawing bus routes instead of letting the game do it for you. Making subway lines go where you want them, etc.
