Tough road slate. 5 extremely difficult road games. Better take care of business at home again. Welcome to the new ACC. Going to get even better adding Louisville.

NC State’s 2013-14 ACC Opponents:

Home & Away (4)
North Carolina, Wake Forest, Miami, Pittsburgh

Home Only (5)
Boston College, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Virginia

Away Only (5)
Clemson, Duke, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Virginia Tech

And lol at Maryland for not getting Duke or UNC at home. Predictable fuck you from the ACC.

Defense looks like it'll once again be a major weakness, but with the added issue of poor rebounding. So we start 2 freshmen in the post or go small with Warren down low. Either way, we will struggle down there on defense and the boards.

On the bright side, this team will probably give more effort and hopefully not play quite so dumb at the end of games. With the offense flowing through Lewis and Warren, we probably won't have to suffer through quite so many mind-boggling turnovers.

I would guess it would be something like this rotation wise. Turner and Warren just about have to start unless the freshmen are better than expected.

Lewis (30 minutes) - Barber (10 minutes)
Lee (30 minutes) - Barber (10 minutes)
Turner (30 minutes) - Warren (10 minutes)
Warren (25 minutes) - Freeman (15 minutes)
Anya (20 minutes) - Washington (20 minutes)

Freeman will not get much more than 5 min a game. Love the signing but he's a few years away.

Wtf, why? Because of missed games?

I am guessing that Campbell, App St, and NCCU will play a round robin, and the winner plays a round robin with NCSU and Cincinnati

Just a guess

It could also mean that every team plays each other except us and Cincinnati. I like ^ idea more, if it means we play Cincinnati.

Do you guys really not know what an exempt tourney is?

It's a preseason tourney, up to four games, that only counts as one for scheduling purposes.

It will be crazy seeing basically a whole new team next year after seeing last years guys for so long. Hope this team will improve as the year goes on instead of peaking halfway through like last year.

Solid article on Ralston Turner:

Quote :
"Ralston Turner's redshirt season was trying.

As a transfer from LSU, Turner couldn't contribute to N.C. State in 2012-13. Watching rather than playing proved difficult.

"I can tell you numerous times I was sitting over there (on the bench) like, 'Man, I just want to play two minutes,' " Turner said. "I knew it wasn't going to happen, but I was cheering for them and patiently waiting."

The wait will be over in about six months.

N.C. State, which has lost five members of a seven-man rotation that carried the team to a 24-11 record, is welcoming at least six newcomers. That group features four incoming freshmen, junior college transfer Desmond Lee and Turner, a 6-foot-6 wing with 60 games of Division I experience.

Turner started all but one of those contests, averaging 12.3 points as an LSU freshman in 2010-11 and 9.1 points as a sophomore. N.C. State will need his scoring given that its returning players accounted for only 21 percent of the points in 2012-13.

"Ralston, I thought, took advantage of a redshirt year as well as you possibly could in the weight room, strength and conditioning, practicing," N.C. State coach Mark Gottfried said during the program's season-ending awards banquet. "I think (he) is kind of flying under the radar a little bit right now, even around the league, as far as what kind of impact Ralston can have."

After 6-8 forward T.J. Warren, who could fill the '4' spot after averaging 12.1 points as a freshman, Turner appears to be the safest bet to start. He could play the '3' if Lee proves capable of handling the '2.'

In 2012-13, 6-6 senior Scott Wood attempted half of N.C. State's 3-pointers and accounted for 56.5 percent of the team's makes. Three-fourths of his career field-goal attempts were 3-pointers, and half of Turner's shots in two seasons at LSU came from long range. He hit 34.6 percent of his 3s, going 99-for-286.

"Three-pointers are probably the best thing I do, but I've tried to work hard on expanding my game a little beyond the 3-point line and do some other things," Turner said. "When I first got here, I was a shooter. All-around, I feel like I've gotten better in a number of areas."

Gottfried, whose 11-season run as Alabama's coach ended in 2009, recruited Turner when he was a standout at Muscle Shoals (Ala.) High School. ESPN ranked him as the 70th-best prospect in the prep class of 2010, two spots behind Fayetteville's Damontre Harris and four spots ahead of former Wake Forest forward Melvin Tabb.

Turner played two seasons for the Tigers under coach Trent Johnson but decided to transfer after one-time Alabama assistant Johnny Jones replaced Johnson, who had resigned to lead TCU's program.

A year later, Turner is part of another program in transition, this one caused by a roster overhaul.

"I'm optimistic about next year, and I'm also excited," Turner said. "I feel like we can come together and do some good things.""

FWIW, I read from a few LSU posters that he was a crappy defender. Could be sour grapes ... that's what I'm hoping at least.

Not the RPI boosting game we wanted. I honestly would rather lose to Michigan, Indiana, MSU or Ohio State. Guess it should be a win for our young team though.

Yeah fuck playing a national title contender like Michigan, let's play a team that we are expected to beat and isn't any good.

If I had that mindset I would pull for your Gonzaga team.

a) over/under seeding isn't a thing. you get seeded on your resume, not what you're expected to do in the tournament.

and

b) look at the RPI going into the tournament and look at where each team was seeded

RPI is, without a doubt, one of (if not the most) overrated "stats" in college basketball

we'll probably not finish in the top3 of the ACC, that's safe to say. But nobody really knows how good we might or might not be in '13/'14. We'll literally be a completely different team: our season will depend on how well warren, lewis, and a bunch of new guys (4 freshmen and 2 transfers) adapt to the system

I wouldn't be surprised if we made the tourney and wouldn't be surprised if we finished last in the ACC.

The freshmen in the post could be totally outclassed, Turner can't hit the side of a barn, Lee isn't able to play at the level expected, Lewis plays like a short white kid, and Warren struggles to get shots without other star players taking the pressure off.

Or the big freshmen come in and as a unit provide quality minutes, rebounding, and team defense(plus some depth so giving some fouls isn't a disaster), Turner is capable of hitting 3s and stretching defenses, Lee fills the Purvis void and is an impact player, Lewis + Cat both handle the point well plus play together well when needed, and Warren is just a handful on the offensive end getting 18+ a night.

First scenario going to be a long season. Second we are a potential 7-11 seed. The ACC should get like half the conference in next year, so finishing 7-9 probably puts you on the bubble and that isn't insane to think we could be in that mix.
