^^my favorite part about people using the electoral college map is that they think if you get the most square mileage in America you have the most people.

There has been many a meme I've seen with county numbers and square mileage trying to criticize Obama which is what I'd assume he was referring to though not sure why he'd say that after that picture.

Orange Don's electoral college victory was pretty smallly compared to Obama's two though.

who claims that?

we all know how the election works. i'm simply saying that when you show an electoral map it makes you think a majority of the population chose the winner. not true.

Not true.

Maybe when I show an electoral map it makes you think a majority of the population chose the winner.

I guess you don't understand how the electoral college works?

Okay.

Because the United States is a representative republic (not a democracy), each states get a say in how the federal government is formed.

The states receive a number of what are called "electoral college votes" based on the number of members of congress they have, and three are apportioned to the District of Columbia.

The House of Representatives has 435 voting members. The Senate has 100 voting members. With the 3 from D.C., the total number of electoral college votes is....538. Very good!

So, to be elected President of the United States, a person must win a majority of electoral college votes, which is...270. Good again!

Now, each state is allowed to determine how they apportion their electoral college votes. (Again, a representative republic, NOT a democracy.)

Usually, states apportion their electoral college votes in a block to whoever wins the popular vote in the state (well there's your democracy!). Some states (NE, ME, NH?) apportion electoral college votes by a percentage.

Now, the electoral college voters are usually required to vote for the person who won the popular vote in that state. Some states have pretty severe laws for "faithless electors," or electors who don't vote according to law. For instance, in 2016, Hillary Clinton lost FIVE of her electoral college votes, compared to TWO who abandoned Donald Trump.

So, when those "confusing" maps with red and blue shaded states with numbers on them are displayed, they represent the states that voted for each candidate, and the number of electoral college votes those states have.

What they don't represent is the popular vote (like a high school homecoming celebration, or Survivor).

Got it?

(was that mansplaining, or just logicsplaining?)

Here is a very good read:

http://www.npr.org/2017/02/17/515630467/with-fake-news-trump-moves-from-alternative-facts-to-alternative-language

*******************************************************************************

Quote :
"0EPII1 reads leftist propaganda HuffingtonPost? Why am I not surprised."

I read all sorts of news sources. CNN, Fox, MSNBC, NPR, Washington Post, NY Times, NY Post, NY Daily News, Huff Post, BBC, Sky, IHT, Guardian, Independent, Daily Mail, Metro UK, Telegraph, RT, Al Jazira, Arab News, Gulf News, HindustanTimes, Tribune Pakistan, Dawn, and more, many of which you obviously haven't heard of.

Guess what, I saw something on Fox the other day (Tucker Calrson's(?) report about immigration to Sweden) that I agreed with

See, unlike you, I don't go around calling news "fake" until I have checked out the source, regardless of who the messenger is, something you and Trump will never understand.

********************************************************************************

So Trump lies about having the biggest electoral college victory since Reagan and when called out on the flagrancy of that "fact", all he has is a very defensive "I was told that", and you/eleusis/kdogg still defend that mendacious parcel of excrement???

If you actually read "news" from a lot of sources, maybe you can do better than posting an opinion piece from an unqualified leftist hack writing a hit piece on a leftist propaganda site?

I'm calling the message AND the messenger "fake" btw.

No I'm fine with some sources he listed. My point is, if he is reading all of those, why would he think it is a good idea to regurgitate a leftist tabloid's opinion piece?

I read at least 20 news and opinion articles a day, from a mix of the sources I mentioned. Everybody on here knows the news, so why bother re-posting it? The opinion pieces (which comment on [non-alternative] FACTS, like the two I posted) are what makes it interesting. If you have some interesting conservative opinion pieces on recent happenings, post them, I will gladly read them.

By the way, I am still waiting for an answer to this:

You're implying the HuffingtonPost article you posted was "interesting"?

I don't care how many leftist propaganda sites you frequent, you obviously have low standards if you think something like that is worthy of reposting.

If you are indeed infected with the SJW virus, I would ask that you contain it to yourself, rather than spreading the click bait AIDS that is the HuffingtonPost to your fellow TWWers.

You're either ignorant or an idiot though if you don't at least acknowledge that it isn't helping out stance within the Muslim community.

Look, ISIS and radicals will never see us as anything other than an obstacle to destroy. But it is the moderate Muslim community you need to be concerned about. That is where the cure for radicalism will come from. And kicking teachers off of planes isn't making us look good.
