Sooo ... here is what I am thinking ...

My wife doesnt want an iPhone .. but since I am upgrading my line, extending my contract ... and plan to keep the 2nd and 3rd lines active anyhow ... (wife/mother in law) ... I might as well take advantage of the subsidy, right?

So, If I walk in there to buy an iphone on the 24th, and say I get one for being in line early ... will they make me open the box on it there in the store? Or, can I just take it home, and have them ding my ATT account for my wifes line as having taken the upgrade?

Anyone know how that works ... essentially, I just want to sell the phone on ebay or something, for $500-700 ... and pocket the difference.

I was kind of wondering the same thing. I wonder if the phone gets attached to your account at the time it's sold, or at the time of activation. In the past, they haven't allowed you to leave the store without activating it (well, that was the idea anyway) but now that they're mailing out a bunch of phones to peoples' homes, I don't know how they would stop people from buying the phone and then not activating it and selling it on ebay.

I have a question: who's used the Backgrounder app, and how was your experience with it?

I admit I don't browse the Rock repository often but noticed this app today and thought it would be a good thing to try. reading the reviews, there were extremes: either "wow this rocks" or "omg it sux I'm stuck in SafeMode loop"

i have backgrounder and proswitcher installed, i have no problems and card based switching. its pretty great.

^^I have backgrounder installed but rarely use it because it's painfully, painfully slow on my 3G and really sucks down the battery in my experience

I double click the home button, the phone freezes up for about 10 seconds, and then my app backgrounds

I'll be done with jailbreaking when I get my iPhone 4 because iOS 4 adds most of the features I jailbroke for and I'm really looking forward to it

My experience with jailbreaking has been hit and miss, I like being able to theme my phone but I don't like how 75% of the stuff in cydia is buggy junk (I installed one cydia application that I discovered reduced my phone's standy time to about 5 hours)

^ good to know. I think I won't bother with it yet, even though ^^ said it was great, and I don't have a 3G (i have a 3GS). As it is, I'm not aching for this kind of functionality just yet, but my interest was piqued.

Now that you mention it, what app was killing your standby time? I've had some apparent battery issues after installing MyWi.. it often requires respringing after I use it. The first time I had used it - and then once more - the battery was draining like crazy. Then I finally opened MyWi, it needed a respring, and the whole phone shut down. I was on the subway going downtown and like, wtf?? I can't use my phone because I didn't have a computer to re-blackra1n it. UGH.

I'll probably still jailbreak for things like 5 icon dock and 5 rows/column. I think it's crazy stupid that the home screen is still 4 by 4 icons especially with the crazy resolution bump. We're not all 80 years old and can see more icons.

haha on a similar note, I pulled up the WRAL app to read some news while waiting for my kid to finish eating dinner last night.

I started to read and everything was a little fuzzy. I was like WTF is wrong with my phone now?

Then I moved it a little further away then normal, and it was clear.

True. I just think despite how well it works the iPhone OS looks kind of lame compared to Android. I guess the background will help, but 4 by 4 icons is just kind of boring.

Data plan has always been the same. They're just switching from "unlimited" to two different cheaper plans.

I read that people still on the old $20 unlimited plan from 1st gen days can choose to be grandfathered into the $30 unlimited plan if they want. So people going from the 1st gen will actually have 3 options to choose from.

I upgraded from an old 2G plan to the 3G unlimited plan when I ordered my iPhone 4. Had to do it through Apple, though. For some reason AT&T's site was only giving me the 2 new plans as options.

Yeah, I've talked to several people from AT&T who swear up and down that it's not even an option in their system to allow you to go back to the unlimited plan, even if someone accidentally moves you off it.

Then again, I've never talked to an AT&T employee that didn't tell me at least one massive lie during the conversation, so who knows what's really true?

I was in there yesterday because they switched me to the family plan on Tuesday even though I won't be adding additional lines until I actually get the new iPhones. The guy said he switched me early to save me the trouble of having to do it on/around launch day. When I asked him if that meant my bill would be higher this month he said "uhh...yeah...but only like...uh...$20 more or something". Like, I guess he figured since I was getting 3 iPhones I wouldn't mind paying a little extra on my bill this month for absolutely no good reason. I also lost 2400+ rollover minutes when he switched me that he swore wouldn't go away if I changed my plan. So that's awesome too.

I found a few on craigslist used. for one i'm not buying $300+ used iphone. I don't give a fuck if the 4 is on the way or not. Most of the ones for sale were 8g. I got the 16g. 3G isn't even available where I live so its no love lost for me.

I am already with at&t (since i was 18 years old...) - with NO data plan and NO text message plan. It was time to upgrade anyway. I am roughly paying between 80-100 a month now with the random text messages I get in and send out. I'll be paying about the same on average with the dataplan and 200txt messages. I've just neglected upgrading my phone for the last 5+ years.

And before you say "lolololyoushoulda preorders iphone4" or "lololatt&tisshitty" or "3gswillsupercheapslol" understand that I was using a sony walkman with a euro plug and I had to use a converter to charge the damn thing. Then it would randomly turn off when I wasn't using it. I even went to verizon and was going to get a Evo but they were sold out for the next month (so I was told). I am not waiting or preordering shit, needed a functional smart phone this week.

I think everyone is just "calling you out" or whatever because you could have just waited a week when the price of the 3GS will go down to $99. i think i preordered an iphone 4 at southpoint for pickup on the 24th

how do i know for sure.......i got a confirmation email and a reservation shows up on the apple iphone app.

only problem was the price wasn't right....I'm up for a new phone at the $199/$299 price....showed $699 I think this was when everyone was hammering the preorder system

Yeah, you read correctly - at least in my case. Upgrading from a 2G to the 4, I was able to grandfather myself into the $30/mo unlimited data plan through AT&T.

So you weren't willing to spend an extra $50 and wait a week to get a much better phone? With a better camera+flash, HD video, massive screen resolution, and longer battery life?

Or on the flip side you couldn't wait a week and spend $50 less and get a 3gs?

Apple is not shipping your iphone4 until July 14th. Thats more than a week. thats almost a full month before it even ships. No telling how long shipping will take. They (att&t) aren't taking anymore preorders (at least the store I went to). Trust me, I asked.

But then again i could wait another month and the iphone 3gs would be another 100$ cheaper because of closeout prices. Or I could wait another 5+ months and Iphone4 will be available in white. OR I could just keep going to the store everyday and try to preorder a new one and continue to wait.

Or I could just take my 3GS NOW, use it for a year or two, sell it on ebay, buy the iphone4 later on down the road. Yeah, i'll do that. I know you guys are just trolling, which is cool and all, but I got a new phone the other day because i've been shopping for awhile and I needed something this week.
