"I'd be interested in knowing what kind of body armor this dude had on. It made me start rethinking my EDC gun (.380/15 rounds) vs. what I had been carrying (.40S&W/25 rounds). Now, I know that most body armor wouldn't stop either round and you would have to recognize the necessity of a head shot in that instance. but it just got my mind going.

"

Even then, getting hit in the chest while wearing a body plate/armor isn't going to feel like a tickle. The vest may stop the round, but you can still crack ribs and cause internal hemorraging/injuries. Getting hit could throw the attacker off his game to where you can subdue/restrain him, or at least make him flee.

If you are close enough and you see he has body armour, or you notice your rounds are hitting CoM and it isn't taking him down, you can always go for the limbs/extremeties. Everything is situational though.

In a situation where you go from enjoying a movie to being shot at, you'd be doing good just to put rounds on target at 10 yards. Between the huge adrenalin spike and your heart rate hitting 190, just making the decision to draw and fire is difficult without some very stressful prior training.

Im glad I have such training, and have had to pull a weapon in high stress situations before.

If someone is actively shooting, I want them to die. Google the 1986 FBI Shootout. Guy was hit w/ a fatal shot to the heart and managed to kill 2 agents and wound 5 others while taking several more rounds before he eventually died.

I hate waiting with a clenched butthole, hoping no new stupid gun control laws come out of this. Every time some dipshit makes headlines.

Also I wonder how .357 SIG fmjs would've done against this guy.

I am not worried about new legislation. Nothing happened as a result of Columbine or the VTtech shootings and it is basically political suicide. Even if Obama gets reelected it would be really tough to get something through congress.

On a similar note, what's that local safe company that makes ridiculously good safes?

Is it Drake Safes?

his brochure is in my gallery in the folder called "Drake Safe Co." or something

you should call him and set up a time to go by his shop and check them out. when i went i was able to see safes in various stages of the build. he has a lot of pictures on the company's facebook page.

you might could get a lower-tier liberty for around $1000. better than nothing.

but they can clean one of them out in a matter of minutes with a cut-off wheel

yeah i think for now it's more of a deterrence then anything major.

my .50 is staying at my sis's house (my bro in-law has a huge safe)
nothing else is worth much more then a grand. but the truth is if it's holding 6 grand in guns i probably should spend more on it. (+ god knows what in my wife's grand mother's coin collection)

Im looking for a pump action magnum shotgun. I have a 870 Wingmaster and am looking to upgrade to something with a bit more range. The 2 3/4 shells arent quite cutting it. Any suggestions of pawn shops or places to go look at some?

We junked all the 16s. Still have a few 17s as DMR rifles.

What's wrong with the wingmaster? If you need tighter patterns you can always try new chokes or have the forcing cones lengthened. I've never really seen a big need to upgrade from 2.75" to 3 or 3.5" unless you really just needed to throw a ton of shot like for waterfowl or turkeys. If you're buying new though I always suggest 3" chambers. 3.5" chambers can actually be a hindrance if you mostly shoot 2.75"

If you just want to be able to shoot 3" shells then I'll trade you an almost new 870 Express with satin black KG Gunkote finish and laminated stock; assuming the Wingmaster is in at least very good condition.

If you're going after waterfowl and/or turkeys then take a look at the Mossberg 835. The overbored barrel really puts out a nice pattern. Walmart and Dicks will have the best prices.

How much are you looking at pending?

Yea, the new shotgun is going to be for waterfowl hunting. Going to try some goose and swan hunts this year and need something with a bit more oomph. Hunting is the only thing I will be using this for, so im not really concerned with anything else. I want a pump just for ease of use and to eliminate jamming issues when im out in the swamp. Since im looking for a new gun to hopefully last a long time, I figured I would go ahead and get the 3.5, but I plan on mostly shooting 3" rounds. I went and talked to a pawn shop guy and he told me he could get me a 870 Super Mag in sythetic for right around $400 new. I havent looked too much at the Mossbergs but I have heard that they cycle better than the newer 870s. I guess Im just partial to remingtons, since that is what most of my family owns and uses.

Cant really trade the wingmaster I have, It was the first gun my dad gave to me and I plan to keep it and hopefully pass it on to my kid.

For my budget I was figuring on about $500 for a new gun or $250-350 for a used one. My SO is letting me pick out my anniversary gift

I like the slide release position in the mossbergs much better than on the 870. Much more convenient.

just wait around until bass pro or something has a big coupon deal.

i got a camo 870 supermag a few months ago for 399+tax out the door.

new.

it does fine with 2.75 shells, and i only ever shot a couple 3.5s (fuck that).

it came with 3 chokes i believe.

I've used Surefire, AAC, and KAC suppressors. What is your application for this? Are you just trying to dampen sound or are you going to run this as some sort of stealth hunting setup with subsonic rounds and shit.

You're gonna get what you pay for in terms of ease of use and cleaning. An AAC Ranger will run you ~600 but I think internal maintenance is a little more difficult. Also a lot of low-budget rifle caliber suppressors you can't run wet so you won't be getting as great a damp.

Brother is looking for an AR and wanted some advice. I've been out of the AR market for a while so I haven't kept up with all the ups and downs. I recommended Daniel Defense or LMT, but I think he's wanting to spend a little closer to $1k and not so close to $2k. That puts us in Stag / M&P range. Thoughts? Suggestions?

wOOt! Picked up my first Glock. Traded my CM9 for a XD9 subcompact with a member on here. On the way back home I stopped by my local gun shop and asked what it would cost to trade my XD9 for a Glock 26. Needless to say I walked out with the Glock 26.

I think the XD was a great gun. It fit my hand better and seemed to have a better trigger. It was larger than the Glock however. I've just always wanted a Glock...

Sounds like he wants one with a rail . . . I realize you can add one, but i'd just as soon purchase one from the factory with that, and I don't see that as an option for CMMG.

It might seem cheesy, but its a pretty damn accurate account of what happened right down to the training scares the FBI had picked up (bullets in pockets, kneeling and looking at the gun to reload, etc).
