here's a question ive always had about "releasing documents": How do you know they released all of them? you don't right?

I hope the NCAA doesn't just say, "give us all your documents," and hope for the best. I'm sure they request specific documents and I would think it would be fairly easy to figure out if something is missing from the list.

Nobody is going to give up incriminating evidence willfully no matter how "unprecedented" their level of cooperation.

^ The only way it's possible if it comes out that Butch was paying her a large sum of money. Then the IRS starts to get interested. But that's got about a .00000000126% chance of happening.

OK...can we do a little investigative journalism and find out who is financing her to pay for the lawyer. Can we start there?

Seriously, FERPA is there to keep people from trying to get at your grades and not much more (or at least it shouldn't be).

I'm thinking about throwing the PP cats a bone and building a little dataviz widget so they can get all googly-eyed when they see the links between the phone numbers

should be easy enough to do, I'd just need some help with the data entry shit (because I don't want to parse through those phone records myself)

also I really need to question if i have enough time or interest to do the news agencies' work for them

Yep...the good stuff starts around page 10 or 11 of that thread. But definitely some interesting stuff in there. Here is the link to page 11 of the thread for those interested

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=178&f=2515&t=7632790&p=11

From that thread:

Quote :
"Anyway, more info.... holy crap...
DICK BADDOUR spoke with Butch extensively in 2010, on Butch's 216-410-5183 number.
4/23
5/18
5/26 -- at 4:09 pm. Butch and BLAKE talked at 3:27pm that day.
6/7
6/8
6/28 x2
6/30 x3
7/2
7/8
7/14 x2
8/3
8/4 x3
8/5
Then things start getting hot and heavy...
8/23
8/24
8/25 x5.... AND, Baddour also had calls from the 216-409-3302 number, so this is obviously another phone line of Butch's.
8/26 x2
8/29 x2
8/30
8/31
9/1 x3
9/2 x3
... and then virtually every day for awhile. I only looked through the end of September.
It should be noted that Baddour made calls to BOTH of Butch's 216 numbers again on 9/22.

So how in the WORLD can Butch's 216 numbers (since we now know there are two different ones) NOT be considered "business" lines, since he talked with his A.D. virtually every day in 2010, once all the NCAA allegations began to hit?

Media? Is anyone reading this?"

The fact that Butch and Blake talked daily should nix the idea that Butch had no idea what Blake was up to, both to the NCAA and to the UNC brass (lets pretend they care bout the truth for a moment). Forget all the "they were friends for 36 years...Blake was the Associate head coach......Blake's reputation was shady before Butch" etc. In the eyes of the NCAA, they say the head coach is responsible for knowing what goes on, well, there's documented proof of countless phone calls on a daily basis. There's no way to dispute this, and it is not curcumstantial. Curious as to when they release Butch's emails? Also, someone mentioned that Thorp or Baddour could go into Butch's office (again, if they cared about finding the truth) and demand to see his Ohio cell phone records. Thorp made a big spectacle back in August during the presser about "getting to the bottom of all this."

edit: Also, in Butch's contract, it staes that major violations that occur that the coach should have known about can be grounds for a show cause. Well, that pretty much means that UNC could fire Butch yesterday without pay and if he sues, all UNC needs to produce are the call logs between he and Blake to a judge to show that they were having daily conversations, open and shut case.

@jpgiglio- Results of a 40-minute interview with Todd Stewart(aspiring agent) will be in Thursday's paper.

@jpgiglio- His versions of the infamous trips to Miami and the NCAA's are not the same.

or

Is the agent going to blow up austin and co. spot even more than it already was?

I'll be interested to read the Gigilo article...

I'm sure a lot more money/benefits were received than what was in the NOA...the NCAA probably couldn't dig up everything (and the players probably couldn't remember it all)

^ Yeah, looking forward to that article. At best it'll hurt UNC. At worst it won't help them. Either the guy spills the beans about stuff the NCAA didn't know about and they go looking for more dirt, or he disputes their findings, they ignore him, go about their business, and tear UNC a new one anyway.

since he has already been accused of providing impermissible benefits to at least 3 players as outlined in the NOA, not sure what he gains by spilling the beans. i am doubtful this will be very damaging for UNC.

Since he was already named in the NOA, I really doubt he's gonna come out and say that he really provided many more benefits to the players than what the NCAA knows about...I'm guessing the interview will be more about the culture of the agent business. Or not. But I don't see him further implicating himself in the whole mess (maybe he calls out other agents or tries to clarify his side of the story). Still, should be interesting...but I'm not expecting an earth-shattering, UNC damning story tomorrow. But I am interested in what differs between his story and the NCAA's, as Gigilo tweeted.

"
In a 40-minute interview with The News & Observer and Charlotte Observer, Stewart said he is being used as a scapegoat by the NCAA and the University of North Carolina. He said he did "good things" over the years for his friend Austin, but he denied the NCAA's assertions that he paid for trips made by Austin and UNC teammate Greg Little or that he offered other improper benefits.

He also denied ever working with Pro Sports Financial, the Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based group of financial advisers named in the June 21 Notice of Allegations delivered by the NCAA to UNC.

"My name is out there for what went on, but it's untrue. It's all lies," Stewart said in a phone interview Friday. "At the end of the day, the NCAA needed to pin it on somebody, and I was the only one who would talk to them."
"

Quote :
"The bulk of the expenses cited by the NCAA, Stewart said, were for paying for Austin and Little to travel to Miami.

Stewart denies that he covered those travel costs.

Stewart was interviewed by the NCAA's Chance Miller (noted in the NOA as occurring Aug. 19), and told him that he has lent his car to Austin and has let him stay at his house in Landover, Md., but that he didn't pay for any of the players' trips cited by the NCAA as improper benefits.

"I didn't pay no seven thousand dollars for no body to do nothing," Stewart said last week. "That's ridiculous.""

I hate that this provides a crutch for UNC to lean on when defending what they did...but at the same time I love how it's going to piss them off and they'll keep crying about how the "NCAA was out to the get them"

Is that an even or odd number of negatives? Also, was there any finger crossing involved?
