The headset jack on my Droid 2 is messing up via hardware issues so I'm going for a warranty replacement. Great phone though...but I'll take a free replacement that I could sell/give to girlfriend and still be able to upgrade to the latest and greatest.
Any idea what they're giving out for warranties these days? 5/6/2012 12:39:26 PM |

Explain to me how buying a used phone works... If I buy someone's old Droid X, then do I just need to pay Verizon to activate it? Or do I have to renew my contract, pay a penalty, etc... I am not eligible for an upgrade until Sept. 5/7/2012 1:50:26 PM |

Just call them tell them you want to activate a phone and give them the EIN (might needed to be cleared in some cases) and it should be up an running in a matter of minutes, and they usually do this for free if its with an existing line.

you shouldn't be charged at all. if they try to charge you, tell them fuck you very much, then call back and get someone else.

Easiest way is to have the person meet you at the Verizon store. If there isn't one around, have the person give you the phone's ESN/MEID and call Verizon CS to make sure it's unattached to a line and not lost/stolen, etc BEFORE purchasing the phone. For the non-LTE phones, all you need to do is dial *228 on the new device, choose option 1 and enter your phone number you want to activate. 5/7/2012 1:59:57 PM |
wdprice3 BinaryBuffonary 45912 Posts user info edit post |
^don't you still have to contact vzw to have them change your esn? or were you trying to imply that ? I get calling to check for theft/active line.

Not that I'm aware of. As long as the phone is inactive you should just be able to do *228. You can also activate a device online through My Verizon. 5/7/2012 2:02:32 PM |
wdprice3 BinaryBuffonary 45912 Posts user info edit post |
well damn. all these years of calling to activate a device have been wasted. I knew you could activate (read: reactivate) a phone via *228, but I thought for a new device/new ESN you had to call.

^Agreed, based on 2 weeks of use the Photon so far. It's actually rather good. It may not be one of the top end devices but for the money I'm pretty impressed. My only demerits are a so-so camera (yeah, 8 MP, but I'd rather have a 5 MP with a better sensor) and questionable battery life under heavy use.
I like HTC's interface and they make compelling devices but the quality is atrocious. (In my 4.5 years on HTC devices I had one Mogul, 5 Touch Pros, and 4 Touch Pro 2s, all of them except the original mogul warranty replacements.)
Also why the rush for LTE devices on Sprint? My impression is that outside some larger markets (which we are not one of) it won't be available until late this year if not 2013.

New nexus is significantly better at maintaining a signal. Not necessarily greater reception, just not as much in and out as before. 5/11/2012 9:29:01 AM |

Hm, when did that start for you? I've been with Verizon/had the Galaxy Nexus since it was released, and it's been rock solid, until yesterday when I had a couple of dropped calls/mobile network not available messages which has *never* happened till then.5/11/2012 11:00:06 AM |

SERO plans, that's why. While I had to upgrade to a "premium" plan and add on the 4G data charge, I'm still getting unlimited data for $55/month. That's hard to beat. And while their devices may not be as good as Verizon and the customer service is pretty poor, their network coverage has been pretty damn good in my experience.5/11/2012 11:21:22 AM |

I will admit to anyone that I am a cheap-ass. But I see no reason to complain--when it works? Most of the time in my opinion. I get 4G coverage at work and at home (yes, wimax not LTE). Maybe my experience is not the norm and I'll be sorry when I move this summer. Remains to be seen. 5/11/2012 12:42:14 PM |

This has sorta been an ongoing issue since I bought it in Feb. Made multiple trips to the store, calls to customer service, etc. They finally said they'll try this. I'll give it a little while to see how it goes.

My situation might've been a little different. It would just drop data signal or hang every 20-30 minutes or so. If I flipped airplane mode on and off, it's like it would kickstart it. Strange. ]5/11/2012 1:09:46 PM |

meh...the Incredible 4G is probably the closest we get to the One X and I'm still not too confident in Samsung's update abilities and development following. Maybe I'll just see what new devices the BAMF developers get. Currently have the Thunderbolt which has been perfectly fine on a custom rom but my serial upgrade tendencies are making me itchy. 5/11/2012 1:56:56 PM |

Just upgraded my iPhone 4 to a One X over the phone from AT&T for $150. They actually price matched Sam's Club/Amazon for me because I voiced concerns about a 3rd party screwing up my grandfathered unlimited data plan. The first CSR actually told me I could only keep the $30/unlimited if I upgraded to another iPhone, which was completely wrong, so keep that in mind if you're in a similar situation.

I just jumped to the One X from an iPhone 4. I'm liking it, but it has a few issues...
Multitasking is screwed at the moment. It is really aggressive with closing background apps. I'm finding it hard to browse the internet and play streaming music at the same time without it killing the music.
Notifications, especially texts, are really hit or miss. Sometimes I open the messages app and see a few texts it never told me about.
I'm really hoping AT&T/HTC push out an update for it soon. It's a couple of bug fixes (and a locked bootloader) away from being a great phone. The screen is insane and I'm actually digging ICS+Sense 4.

My One X doesn't seem to like to keep as much open as my Atrix on CM7 did, but I'm not having issues multitasking most of the time. Everynow and then when I would switch between a few apps it'll screw up (most notably, when I was driving out to pick up a girl on our first date, I switched away from navigation to the messaging app to call her, and when i switched it back to navigation mid-call, it lost the directions. haven't had anything since then, and I found a setting to make sure I have 4 apps in memory before it shuts any of them) 5/14/2012 9:17:53 PM |

In response to the HTC One X multitasking http://www.androidcentral.com/multitasking-htc-one-x-isnt-broken-its-customized
Quote : | "What's happening is that the settings have been adjusted to keep more memory free for Sense 4 to gobble up, at the expense of applications running in the background. It's not a big edit, but with the One X's big screen and Sense 4's big footprint, it's a big enough edit to force things to close in the background more aggressively than we're used to seeing. Apps that have a bit of priority (ranging from the important things like the phone dialer to the less-important like the music player) seem to act just fine, but bigger applications, like Chrome beta for example, seem to suspend and need to re-open whenever they are returned to from the application switching menu." |

Not as much as this...
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/05/16/verizon-cfo-unlimited-data-plans-going-away-all-users-pushed-onto-shared-data/
Quote : | "LTE is our anchor point for data share. So as you come through an upgrade cycle and you upgrade in the future, you will have to go onto a data share plan. And moving away from, if you will, the unlimited world and moving everyone into a tiered structure/data share type plan.
So when you think about our 3G base, a lot of our 3G base is unlimited. As they start migrating to 4G they will have to come off of unlimited and go into the data share plan. And that’s beneficial for us for many reason, obviously." |
Not really surprising though. He did say "3G" customers so wonder how that will impact existing lte customers.5/16/2012 3:35:07 PM |
