http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/03/17/393676/cothron-concerned-with-playing.html

Quote :
"
Luke Cothron, the 6-foot-8 basketball forward at Red Springs Flora McDonald is no longer committed to N.C. State, but still likes the Coach Sidney Lowe, the school and its fan base.

"Basically, his concern is playing time," Flora McDonald coach Dearrick Bond said Wednesday morning. "He and C.J. Leslie [of Raleigh Word of God] basically play the same position. They have some different skills, but they play the same position.

"If State gets C.J., he is going to a lot of minutes."

Bond said Cothron had mentioned State's dream lineup for next year: freshmen Lorenzo Brown and Ryan Harrow plus veterans Tracy Smith and Scott Wells plus possibly Leslie.

"I know that Luke still likes N.C. State a great deal and is watching the program very closely," Bond said. "He watched every minute of its game on Tuesday night [a 57-56 NIT win over South Florida] and was sitting on the edge of his seat."

Bond said he wasn't sure which other schools Cothron is interested in schools but thinks he will speak with Kentucky, Alabama and Texas A&M.

"All of them could use a player with Luke's skills," Bond said. "Luke wants to go somewhere that needs a player with his skill set. I tell him the more competition the better, but I also tell him he needs to make what he thinks is the best decision for him.

"But I'll tell you, if C.J. were to commit to Kentucky tomorrow, you'd probably see Kentucky come off his list and N.C. State at the top again."

Leslie, a McDonald's All-America and ranked among the top prospects in the country, has not announced a final list of schools. He had committed to State after his freshman year, but later decided to reopen his recruitment.

Among the schools that he is believed to be most interested are State and Kentucky.

"

since cothron and leslie wouldnt be playing the same position, it basically makes it sound like cothron doesnt want to play with leslie at all. Must be mad that leslie has pwned him several times this year.

I think people generally call someone a 'veteran' in college bball if they've played at least one year

Harrow named the Gatorade Georgia POY.

Quote :
"The 6-foot-1, 160-pound senior guard led the Raiders (17-8) to the second round of the Class AAAAA regional tournament this past season, averaging 32.4 points, 6.3 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game. A 2010 McDonald’s High School All-American Game selection committee nominee, Harrow finished his prep career with more than 2,100 points and set a school record with 284 all-time assists."

So what jersey numbers do you think Harrow and Brown will take next year?

iirc, brown was listed as #2 on the gopack site until it was official he wouldn't qualify. he wore #0 at hargrave this past year, but I've never liked 0 to be honest and 00 only looked good on robert parish.

harrow wore #12 at walton and other AAU tourneys but was #4 the last time he played in reynolds. i like him at #12, which is open since farnold is graduating.

if leslie thinks he can fill dennis horner's shoes, his #5 he wore at WOG and #10 he wore with D-One are both taken by painter and javi respectively. i'd like to see him in a single digit, somewhere between 6 and 9 *snicker*

any number except for 31 (which should be in the rafters) and 44 is fine with me as long as they are wearing red and white (or possibly black). if you want to make a big impact at state, 24 looks like the number to don as we have four #24s honored.

Anyone heading to Dave Telep's Carolina Challenge in Cary on Saturday? Admission is free. I'll be in the Raleigh area, so I'm heading over about 2ish. I'll be the one wearing the red NC State hoodie.
