everyone laughed when palpatine killed mace windu. He should have put that hood on about 5 minutes earlier. Lucas should feel embarrassed for that scene alone.

That scene was ridiculous. It was like Palpatine was going through puberty with his voice constantly changing.

There's no explanation in the book.

The funny thing the movie doesn't cover is just how astray the first battle between the Jedi goes.

If you're keen on the greater story it really does make sense. The dialogue at the end of the saber fight on the floating platform and then after Anakin gets his legs cut off was really potent. Also the dialogue at the beginning of the saber fight.

^^

It had to have been the Sith, either Dooku or Sidious. Palpatine could have easily misappropriated funds and Dooku could have easily forged the order and erased all reference to Kamino.

He exiled himself so that he could preserve the teachings of the lightside. Yoda and ObiWon were the only two jedi left by the time vader was through with everything, and as badass as, Obi won was, his knowledge and wisdom paled in comparison to Yoda's.

yeah i get that, but it just seemed so rushed. it seemed like he was saying--"i suck, i failed, i'm a disappoointment, time to run away"

and no wonder lucas said to not bring kids, he freakin killed all the little kids and showed anakin's skin melting away

you got to give him credit there for actually putting in that stuff

Yoda knew he couldn't beat Palpatine, so he bounced. It's simple as that.

No sense fighting a battle you've already lost.

last thing then i'm going to bed

when yoda, obi-wan and windu are discussing the prophecy and yoda says that maybe the prophecy was misinterpreted or something, could that mean that anakin isn't the one who brings balance directly or that he does by spawning luke and leia or have they made that open to interpretation?

also, the Darth Plagueis story and the creating life from the midi-chlorians was pretty cool. i think that was one explanation that was handled well

I can't believe that fucking idiot lost to Obi-Wan because he basically made a dumb-shit move in the middle of a fight. I need to see that part again to see if that was as stupid as it seemed to me at the time.

Part of it also is that the Emperor is always surrounded by stormtroopers and the rest of the Empire. Had the fight continued without Palpatine calling on them to hunt Yoda down, Yoda would have probably won.

1) In IV when Luke wants to become a stormtrooper-- wtf? Did they stop making clones?

2) When Leia's remembering her mother after she and Luke realize they're related, it has to be Mrs. Organa since Padme up and quit @ life four seconds after she squirted them out. I thought that was disappointing.

3) Also: damn the liberal media for inserting their propoganda into a movie. I don't want to hear about freedom and democracy versus hyperfederalism and imperialism-- I want to see kids get sliced up !

The Galactic Empire officially outlawed cloning shortly after the overthrow of the Republic. I guess that was to prevent the Rebellion from raising a clone army of its own, and I suppose it also means the cloners of Kamino got smoked. Cloning still happened, but never on a large scale. I'm sure it's much cheaper to take regular recruits, and cost effectiveness is probably a major concern when you're trying to hold down a galaxy.

Isn't Luke a little short to be a stormtrooper?

++ 4) Tacking on OMF QUI-GON LEARNED TO BE A GHOST AND I CAN TEACH YOU FOR FOUR INSTALLMENTS OF $19.99 was kind of lame.

Yeah that part was bizzare to me. Why the crap could nobody figure out how to appear as a ghost before? How come Qui Gon was not inserted or mentioned when ghosts appeared in the original 3 movies???

So this just occured to me...If Sidious is supposedly behind Anakin's transformation to the dark side, then is Darth Plagueis responsible for Anakin's birth? Isn't he supposedly born of midi-chlorians and fatherless?

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall I was very pleased with the movie...The only acting that I really had any problems with was a) the part where Anakin and Padme are all like "No....It's because I love you more silly!" b)The Darth Vader "NOOOOO!" scream...

I think Anakin's birth had more to do with the prophecy they kept talking about. Episode I made it sound like an immaculate conception.

The cheating death/Terry Schiavo stuff I saw more as an example of the perversion of the Force, but I guess it would be ironic if the dark side were responsible for Anakin's birth which Qui-Gon initially interpreted as the direct fulfillment of that prophecy which he thought would lead to peace, love, and the American Way.

Well Anakin does bring about the prophecy in ROTJ by throwing Palpatine over the railing! I guess the prophecy left out the tidbit where the Sith rule the Galaxy for 20-30 years... I guess it's a win/win situation if the Sith were responsible for his birth. They get to have their fun for a while then the reigns get handed back over to the jedi and the rebels!

my only real complaint was gen. greivous
but i guess he was needed to show that you can take the heart and head of someone and make a working droid-man...

p.s., who the hell doesn't check the clone playbook?
i mean, when you get down to

Code 62. Shoot the Hostage
Code 63. Close Right Flanks and retreat
Code 64. Put hands in the air
Code 65. Wave em around like you just don't care
Code 66.
Code 67. Profit
Code 68. Seek the High Ground
Code 69. Place partner in inverted position for equal access

you kinda wanna know what Code 66 is...

Ewan was great but they could've gotten Ian McKellen to play Obi Wan and like it would be LotR Old Man fight all over again. XD

Ha, unless Luke was pushing 40 in A New Hope or you consider the last 20 years ruled by the sith, it's more of a two decade reign. Well, they beat Hitler at least. ;p

i really thought that palpatine was telling him basically "i am your father"

i assumed the point of that story was "i was the apprentice of the fallen sith lord, i know all he has taught, come to the dark side, i am your father"

Has anyone seen the fishing commercial trailer where the little 8yo girl says something like "take me fishing cause I'll be getting married sooner than you think."The whole theater was erupting with laughter last night at that line.

There was also some Childrens Miracle Network commercial with a do it for the kids theme, and it had Wal-Mart logo plastered everywhere in the trailer. Later during the younglings scene someone in the audience yelled out "Do it for the kids!!!!"

He sure took his time doing it. I guess he was still new at it. In the book for IV the narrator made a huge deal about how he squished some dude's neck and made the cracking bones sound like a dog padding on plastic.

I really wanted to see an explanation of Sifo-Dyas and how his order for the clone army came to be manipulated by Palpatine... I mean, I know Dooku had a hand in that, but I was still looking for a bit more clarification. If Sifo-Dyas placed the order, then when and how did Palpatine come to alter their programming with Order 66?

Oh yeah, I was there in costume, and went all out. Quite a few people from here saw me, too.

I thought it was odd when it happened, but now it makes sense. Padme was the last shred of humanity he had in him, and when he finds out she is dead, that scream represents the end of his humanity. We never see him show great emotion throughout the next films--he truly then becomes more machine than man.

Quote :

This one will be debated for YEARS. Did the Sith really create Anakin? Was it just a lie on the part of Palpatine to entice Anakin to join him? Remember, that's one of the main things Palpatine uses to seduce Anakin and then all of a sudden--oh, wait, just kidding I don't know how it happens, but I might try to find it for you, oh wait, your wife is dead. Sorry you pledged your sould to me without me delivering

That was probably the biggest glaring problem I had with ROTS. I always kind of suspected Padme would die of a broken heart but that she'd be dying at the end of ROTS with Leia on Alderaan.

I loved the beginning of the duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan when we first see Obi-Wan standing at the top of the ramp looking down at Anakin. You know he's going to teach that kid a lesson he'll never forget. Anakin was still just the learner in that battle

and i think he also realized the only reason he was in this was to save her
and irony of ironies, he now thinks he killed her
so i was fine with the scream and the physical earth shaking going on around him

ROTS was great. Perhaps Leia's memory of her mother was from birth, they say infants instinctivly know their mother's from birth b/c the recognize her voice, etc. Could also be explained as her memory being imprinted, much as ducks and other animals cling to the first thing they see when they are born (ala Jurassic park).

You know the ending with the music and the suns on tatooine made it worth it, great effect!

Well, it's not even as if her husband died--he was mauled and turned into a robotic monster after he tried to kill her, her children are the offspring of such a person, the republic she fought so hard to preserve is now lost--who wouldn't lose the will to live? It would fit with what Leia said--ultimately, she was "sad".

Yeah, I always had a feeling that the last shot would be of "A New Hope" (great tie-in to Episode IV).

I posted this in someone's blog today--a friend of mine is a seminarian and a lot of seminarian friends of his are Star Wars Nerds (used in all due respect), and they, as I, love the philosophical, mythological, morality and religious aspects of the film. From Palpatine's thinly-veiled Satan, to Anakin the tragic hero (or Lucifer?), there was a lot to see.

There's many analogies that can be made. Certainly a Hitler-like character in his consolidation of power over the Republic. However, the way he tempts Anakin with unlimited power, knowledge of the Dark and more powerful side of the Force (not the dogmatic teaching that the Jedi will only let you know), his deception of Anakin and the whole galaxy, his entrapment of Anakin based on a promise that was all simply a lie, kind of gives him those charactaristics. Even Lucas flat-out claims that Palpatine is a Satan-like figure in the Faustian deal he makes with Anakin, and that he represents the God of the Underworld in his "promise" to control death.
