I think it was sorta a thing where he was like, I'm gonna punch my hand real hard to relieve this frustration, but he just got carried away and did it right at Costner's head. I've come close to doing similar in sports, but never at another player's head.

^if you look at the video on ESPN 360 it doesn't really look like he is punching his hand. He is swinging his right hand straight out in front of him with his hand open like he was trying to bitch slap someone. But it doesn't look like he made contact.

^If that is the case, it definitely looks like he pulled back on it before contact. Wow, after the look at it that is a really weird move. Its like he started to slap at Costner and pulled back. Definitely a stupid move, but I don't think he really intended to hit so much as just swing out his frustration. Lost his cool.

no matter what he was doing, it was a swing and near an opponent's face.....good call on the technical

if it had landed, whether he meant to do it or not, he would have been tossed

^Don't get me wrong, it was stupid and definitely should be called. It just looked tome like it wasn't meant to be a malicious maneuver. Looks much worse on the replay, though.

I was right behind the goal when that happened, when we first saw it, it looked very intentional, they were fighting hard to control the ball and Costner snatched it away, Hansblow looked so pissed off and angry, it looked like he took a swing like a little child who didn't get his way. It was a move of pure frustration I think, he probably did hold back at the last minute but he did give in to his emotions for a moment there. Good call on the tech I thought.

it looked horrible first time i saw it. or as i said "if this was the nba he would be suspended 1-3 games".

having seen it 10 times from 4 angles (i love nationally televised games), I think the tech was a good call and there is no reason to suspend.
