My gut feeling is maybe he calls it a career here.

Hopefully not, but...you never know.

Bye Smoltz, although Glavine came back, you and Chipper will be the only true Braves to me. Maybe one of these young guys will stay around for a while, but I was too young to know much about Murphy, and now we lost one of the best (assuming he retires). I'll miss you. Especially if we make the playoffs

So in a draft "loaded" with 1B prospects, the Braves get none so far. That's awesome, since there's nobody in the minors thats a good prospect. Maybe they will sign Teixeira? Move McCann or Pena? I know it's not a hard position to play but... I woulda expected them to get one somewhere

we need good young arms as well, and it looks like thats what we've gone heavy on so far. Plus, the draft isn't over yet. I mean, only the first 6 rounds.

both the guys on PTI just said they think Chipper will get to 500 homers. Wilbon said he will make it easy and play another 5-6 years. I disagree. I don't think Chipper is gonna play another 5 years. I don't think his body is gonna hold up that long. I hope I am wrong.

the only way he'll get to it is if he DH's for an AL team, or maybe move him to first once tex leaves

He should have around 420 this year if he stays healthy, which would put him on pace to do in in three years. He has 2208 hits which makes me wonder if he can get to 3000. If he does play for 5-6 years like Wilbon says then theres no doubt he will eclipse both marks. I think he has 2 or 3 more good years with the braves and I think they could keep him around for a few more after that as a leader, maybe not everyday player.

that's what I was thinking, about 2-3 more years. Even at 420 at the end of this year, he would need 3 full healthy seasons to pull it off.

do you guys in raleigh get the games that air on Peachtree TV?

it seems they have had the broadcast rights to quite a few games in the last month, including tonights Cubs game. Just wondering if you avid braves fans have been able to see these games not airing on sportsouth or fox sports south.

I have campus cable, and the game is on WGN for me, probably doesn't help you though since you asked about other games in general as well.

i hope this is as low as we get this season. right now we are in a bad way. it's a shame to have one of the best infields in the game, to be wasted by poor overall play. despite losing the back end of our pen (gonzo, soriano, moylan), the relievers haven't really been THAT bad (outside of acosta). however, they haven't been good enough to be a saving grace or anything. our outfield wasn't supposed to be tremendously great, but diaz and kotsay going down are killing us out there. good thing we have depth to speak of, even if it's not that great (anderson, blanco, infante). norton has been an awesome pickup, but we need to find more pieces to fix this team. however, i'm afraid this team needs more than we'll be able to find to actually stand a chance at any kind of title (WS, NL, NLeast). outside of hudson and jurrjens, we're hurting big time for starters. it'll be interesting to see what, if any, changes can be made, because reyes, campillo, bennett and soon james (thanks to glavine seeing the DL again) just don't have what it takes.

i know injuries are part of every game, but the frequency and magnitude of ours are really buttfucking us hard. glavine is running out of gas. smoltz too. chipper's returning to being a coin flip on a day to day basis. those guys are truly the heart of this team, and i love them to death and it pains me to see them this way. it sucked to see moylan go down early this year - i really like that guy. when gonzo comes back, he can't possibly make things any worse than they are, but we could have used him a long time ago. soriano has come back, but he's trying to play through pain - never a good sign. diaz wasn't really living up to the hype before he went down, but he'll still be gone at least another month. kotsay's back acted up, even though he swore it was healthy when he came to the braves.

the only solution, though crazy as it sounds, is to trade tex. i love that guy, but everyone and their brother thinks he's as good as gone after this year. however, i don't know what we could get realistically. if we got market value for what he's worth, we should be able to get a few helpful pieces (pitching and an OF bat maybe?). sad thing is, we probably wouldn't get market value unless he was sent to a team that is on the radar to sign him long term. and then, it's gonna be tough for the braves brass to give him up after what we gave up to get him.

Talking about piling on........Jurrjens sprained his ankle walking to the team bus last night and has been scratched from the game tonight.....Jeff Bennett will start in his place.

Since the four game sweep of the Mets three weeks ago, this team has been seriously depressing. The Braves need to finally accept that it is time to rebuild and start trading guys like Tex, Hudson, Gonzalez (assuming someone wants him) and build around McCann, Jurrjens, Frenchy, and Johnson.

The Braves basically have jack squat in the minors now and very little to look forward to in the next 2-3 years. I'd be happy to have the Braves suffer through a couple of shit seasons if it meant we were building for the future. These .500 years over and over and over aren't accomplishing anything worthwhile.

Both the Mess and Phils and even the Marlins have much stronger building blocks than the Braves and it won't be long until were fighting the Nats to stay out of the cellar.

I disagree. It might not be the system it was in 1990, but we've got a lot of great prospects that should be ready in the next few years: Jason Heyward, Cole Rohrbough, Brent Lillibridge, Brandon Jones, and maybe Schafer. We definitely need starting pitching, but we've got a lot of great bats and glove in the minors.

all us braves fans have pretty much established that we're shitty, and we're only getting shittier by the day... no popcorn needed... not until the cubs find some dramatic way to NOT win a title, like every season for the past century!

If it makes you feel any better the Mets are inventing new ways to lose every night...

Tonight was Pelfrey is magnificent through 8 against the best pitcher in baseball and then Wagner gives up a 3 run bomb to tie it 3-3 in the bottom of the 9th..

This is almost getting comical. If Jurrjens goes to the DL they will have 4 out of their 5 original starters on the DL (if you can even count Hampton). Poor Hudson.

Haha, sadly I know exactly how you guys are feeling. Jurrjens injures himself walking. Moises Alou comes off the DL, swings three times, hits the DL again...

lol good game ridgeway. 1 pitch, lost the game. Has Bobby figured out that Boyer isn't the closer? I don't care if its not Soriano since I guess hes still hurt or something, but take Boyers stupid ass out of the game.
