^memphis is a bad example. Dorsey was 6'9 and an absolute beast down low. Not so much with offensive moves, but just domination down low. They also had a 6'10 guy in Taggart as well as Dozier who was 6'8 or so

I was trying to say that out of Costner, Horner, and Smith, I think only Smith was made to play inside. Brandon could, if he wanted to, but that's a big adjustment from his natural position. Horner is a slow SF that can't shoot that well and he doesn't have the body to bang with bigger guys. Even if they pan out as legitimate front court players, depth will be a big, big problem. We might see T. Ferg out there at PF if we don't have anyone else to back up the starters.

I trust sid though. It's his team, I'm just along for the ride.

well, I guess the good thing is that harrow will be our only PG for 2010 and we have 5 spots available (-2 for leslie and harrow). So hopefully that means we'll pick up at least 3 big men for the class.

lmao. TF at PF are you kidding me? i will go ahead and guarantee you that will never happen. costner could possibly slide into the 3 occasionally, but you'll never see trevor at anything other than 2 or 3 with some possible spot duty at point in rare situations. i think with our roster lacking in size like it will next year, costner will spend most of his time at the 4.

if horner can bulk up some more and gain confidence in the paint it's possible you could see him get more time at the 4 backing up brandon and tracy, but i don't see him being all that effective there. horner is a little lost in sidney's offense. he's an ideal 4 in the princeton O but that doesn't translate well to either forward position for us now. lets just hope he can step up and hit a few big shots for us when he's open b/c unless he majorly improves his inside game i think that's about the most we can really expect from him.

NC State picks up second 2010 commit

Ryan Harrow had only one goal in mind when he went to visit North Carolina State today.

The rising junior point guard committed to NC State on Monday, a day later than planned, joining forward C.J. Leslie as Class of 2010 commitments for the Wolfpack.

Harrow met with NC State coach Sidney Lowe this morning, and was joined by his mother, Fern Harrow, and his brother-in-law Erasto Hatchett, who is the assistant coach at the Concord (N.C.) Cannon School, where Harrow attended for three years before transferring to Marietta (Ga.) Walton High last January.

Once Harrow got the go-ahead from Coach Lowe and his mother to commit, the decision was easy.

"The big thing I like is Coach Lowe," Harrow said. "He's played in the NBA and coached in the NBA, and now he's coaching in college. He can make me an NBA point guard if I get that far."

Harrow admittedly has wanted to commit to NC State ever since attending the elite camp June 11-12. He also previously attended a UNC at NC State home game, and has been on the Wolfpack radar over the last year. The recruitment started to heat up after he impressed the NCSU coaches at the elite camp, getting the attention of Lowe in particular.

"I just like the school and I like Coach Lowe," Harrow said. "When I went there for the elite camp, I liked the team. They were cool, The assistant coaches, campus and facilities were nice. I like that I can go to the practice facility and work on my game at any time." (Lee Fowler just creamed his pants over hearing a recruit mention our facilities as one of the reasons why he came here)

The 6-foot, 150-pound Harrow is currently unranked by Rivals.com, but is coming off a solid showing at the GBOA South tournament in Norcross, Ga. He also played well in the Kingswood Classic in April and the Wallace Prather Memorial in May. He'll be playing this summer with Louis Williams Elite, playing some with the 16s and 17s.

Harrow received his first offer from UT-Chattanooga, and Auburn also offered. He received interest from Clemson, Kentucky, Wake Forest, Florida, Texas, Marquette, Cincinnati, Davidson, St. John's and Tennessee. (those are some good bball schools)

Harrow attended the Clemson elite camp the weekend of June 20-21, but even though he scored 50 points in a game, he didn't get the same feeling from the Tigers' coaches.

"NC State was the biggest school on me and they were coming at me the hardest," Harrow said. "They were talking to me and calling me, and I called them. My dream since I was little was to play in the ACC. The best conference to play in is the ACC." (I think he'll understand the importance of the Tobacco Road rivalries and what they mean to the fanbase since he lived in NC for so long)

Harrow will officially sign with NC State during the 2009 November signing period.

lol the kid is light years better than javi. just watched the film on him from packpride. kid looks pretty damn good, especially considering he has 2 years to grow and improve his game before he gets here. but yes he is already better than javi and would most likely start for our current team if he were here right now. he's sort of like a mini john wall almost. i think he'll definitely project to a top 100 kid by the time he comes out, maybe top 50. committing to us early like this probably won't do much for his rankings though because some of the bigger schools that might have eventually offered probably would have helped beef up that ranking. but yeah i was definitely impressed with the film i watched. looking forward to seeing him play for us.

very impressive film, to me, for a rising high school junior. His handle is really, really good......maybe not quite john wall good, but hes RIGHT THERE already. Good form on his 3 pt shot. The only thing i could see is that he is gonna need work on finishing inside(will come with beefing up and getting bigger as he gets older). I can see why the staff was impressed and offered early

he had a couple of And1 style layups that had my jaw on the floor. The video is hillarious honestly. It starts out with him dribbling through some double teams, then taking bad shots or bad passes, then its like watching a skinny john wall, maybe with a better handle.


I was skeptical, but he had some amazing vision in that video, great speed, great handle, and a pretty good shot. His "finishing" was better when he was showboating, which is what I found funny. 1 or 2 where he switches hands, one or 2 with a double pump fake/up and under type move, and one spinning/foul/behind the back that he made.

He made some nice passes, and showed the ability to hit the 3. Made some nice moves. He needed some better teammates that could actually finish well. I think he could be pretty good if he grows and gets stronger as expected. Heck even if he stays at 6'0" he can still fill out some and gain strength. Jai Lucas, a kid many State fans wanted, is shorter than this kid. I liked how in one of the videos he started getting pressed in the backcourt by two guys, and he dribbled the ball right under one of the guy's legs and side stepped him, picked up the ball and continued on.

whoa, is that what a point guard looks like? if so, we have been devoid of one, at least since i've been at school.

i like his moves and 'handles'. i'm just not a fan of the unnecessary hot dog stuff. he makes it pretty though when he is driving and passing.

Edit: Actually, there was very little hot-dogging other than some at the beginning of the first video. Lots of good stuff but I know not to get my hopes up.

Well a lot of highlight reels (the ones actually sent to college coaches) will have highlights of them shooting consecutive free throws so that coaches recruiting them can get a feel for how good of a free throw shooter they are and how consistent their stroke and pre-shot routine is. The last thing you want is a point guard that will be a liability at the free throw line, especially in end game situations. I don't know if it was all completely hot dogging as opposed to him having to carry his team. Some of those guys really sucked at finishing around the rim when he'd deliver a perfect pass to them.

it'll be nice having lineups in 2010 that look like: harrow/javi, mays, lo brown (maybe), cj leslie, tracy smith. basically the exact opposite of last years team in terms of speed, athleticism and ball handling.

Damn. I know it's early as hell, but those 2 videos were pretty impressive. Great vision, great ability to create plays out of traps, etc. Great ball distribution and a pretty nice stroke on those 3's. If he can add at least 20 pounds or so in the next couple of years, he'll fine. Another inch or two of height would just sweeten the deal even more.

I won't get my hopes up too much, but I really do believe in Sid's vision for NCSU and look forward to seeing what he can build here.

Those highlights are from an allstar game, right? That defense is simply horrible. He makes some nice passes, but finding that many guys wide open under the basket should never ever happen. The white guy who's "guarding" him in the second video looks like he's never played basketball before. still the video is encouraging.

Joe Goydish admits he is biased when he says N.C. State’s coaches made an excellent early evaluation of point guard Ryan Harrow.

A point guard who will be a high school junior next season, Harrow committed to N.C. State last week. Harrow has transferred from Concord Cannon and plans to play next season for Goydish at Walton High in Marietta, Ga.

“They got a gem before people realize he’s a gem,” Goydish said of N.C. State. “I think he could be a top-25 kid” in his class.

Goydish said Harrow has been a bit under the radar because he carries only about 150 pounds on his 5-foot-11 frame and looks like a ninth-grader because he is so thin. But Harrow wears a size 13 1/2 shoe, and Goydish anticipates he will be 6-2 or 6-3 by the time he enters college.

Harrow is an honor student and was impressed with Wolfpack coach Sidney Lowe and assistant Monte Towe while attending camp in Raleigh. Goydish would have preferred for Harrow to explore all his options instead of committing so early, but said Harrow always has wanted to attend N.C. State and didn’t want to wait.

His commitment could help as the Wolfpack attempts to secure another top Georgia guard, 6-4 Lorenzo Brown of Centennial High in Roswell. Brown is rated 29th on scout.com’s list of rising seniors, and Goydish said Brown and Harrow are like brothers.

Even if Brown goes elsewhere, though, Goydish said N.C. State will be pleased with Harrow’s quickness, scoring and passing.

I wonder what chance we have with Melvin Tabb. He's a local guy (Enloe) that's a 4* PF on Rivals. Could be a good pickup for us and make a good frontcourt tandem with CJ Leslie. TheWolfpacker has a premium story about his recruitment and what schools he's favoring.

I could be mistaken, but Harrow was original from GA, moved up to NC and played at the Cannon School in Concord, and then moved back to GA after a relative was sick?

Harrow was born in Georgia and lived with his parents until they split. He then lived NC and attended the Cannon School where his brother-in-law was an assistant coach. His grandmother died and he moved to back to Georgia. I think now he lives with his father during the week and his mother on the weekend. He's a very good student and an article I posted farther up said he was an honor student.
