im not so sure about that.... he's black and trying to discredit a black leader these days is next to imposisble...

Obama already has that "anointed by the in-crowd" essense and I am not sure it can be taken from him unless it is by another who is more worthy...of which no one currently exists!

Are those who vote superficially or politically the larger in number?
who will win between the two? Will he get enough of both?

I cant wait to see...

I support him because he used to be a smoker and I can relate to overcoming that kind of adversity, and living in a society that discriminates against you for such things

^^^that really is a red herring argument. i think plenty of people are attracted to obama for superficial reasons (i was). but the more i have learned about his policies and approach to things, the more i realize that he is the right choice of those remaining.

I already gave my reasons why I support him as the first reply to the thread on the first page. But now I'm moving on to the How do you support Obama question. I volunteered at his campaign office in Chapel Hill today. I think they have several now across the state. I think its really cool that a primary has actually lasted long enough for NC to matter for once. While Edwards was my first choice, its not often that NC gets a say so I want to make the most of that opportunity while its available.

http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/nchome

For those who support Obama, or other candidates. How do you support them?

Do you just plan to vote, are you a bumper sticker kind of person, or someone who just tells their friends who they are interested in or why, or someone who goes all out or joins up with the campaign?

i think the more entertaining question would by why do you hate obama?

Then we'd have a thread full of gumbified-like responses

OMG he's black
OMG he's a terrorist
OMG he doesnt salute the flag
OMG everyone that likes him must be a fag

Catchphrases? Isn't that what all elections are about?

Hell, I didn't donate money to the guy or anything, but he's the best thing left. I think this is how most of the GOP partisans feel right now, as well. I guess I'll take solace in the fact that I didn't support Mitt Romney.

If you look at the breakdown of the people donating to different campaigns, a plurality of Obama's supporters (40%) are from people donating $200 or less.

If you look at both Hillary and McCain, the majority of their financial support is from people donating $2300 or more with a whopping 75% of Hillary's money coming from this group, and 57% of McCain's coming from this group (and 38% of Obama's coming from this group).

So despite Obama out-raising everyone, he's really the most "grassroots" of the candidates, clearly appealing to more of your middle class, rather than the rich business elite.

I'd go if I was down there. I went and saw barack a couple months ago, the REAL deal, it was awesome. He may go speak in Raleigh or somewhere in RTP. If you get a chance to see him speak IRL - TAKE IT. I waited for 2 hours in the FREEZING cold, but it was well worth it.

^^ I saw that on the Daily Show the other day. They had a montage of Dodd asking him a bunch of dumb questions followed by that response. Was pretty hilarious.

I'd love to see him get some burns like that one and the one with Hillary with his upcoming debates with McCain.

All Obama's books, policy speeches, website content, everything...has all been nothing but him saying "we need to change".

It's not that hard to figure out his plans, you can pick up his book at most fine retail establishments and it's pretty thorough.

^^ Don't forget he'll also play off of people's fears of economic insecurity. "Watch out for those Canadians and Chincs! They'll steal yer job!" or "Watch out for those rich people! They'll take yer pay day!"

What suprises me is that Bill Clinton actually was a New Type of Democrat. He shared the old-school Democrat goal of improving economic security for all Americans, but he also realized that incentives matter and that markets could be used to reach those goals. Yet, everyone treated him like just another lying crooked politican.

Obama's policy proposals are antiques in comparison. They are based on the same flawed thinking that drove Democratic initatives for 40 years. It is very clear that he does not understand the importance of incentives in people's choices (see his health care proposal or his plan to increase taxes on "windfall" profits) or the benefits of trade. Yet, everyone treats him like a New Type of Democrat.

Really, Hillary and Edwards are also guilty of this, though I tried to ignore it (eventually I couldn't and moved over to McCain). So is the entire Democratic party is regressing to where it was in the 1970's?

actually i don't support him b/c of his claims that we have a 'lost cause' in iraq. (freeing 40 million people (20 million innocent and cruely treated women) from tyranny and oppression isn't a good cause??)

hmm.

also, his wife is just a total anti american anti-white male troll. it's getting worse and worse every time she opens her mouth. just do like mccains wife. be pretty and keep your mouth shut if you are going to be offensive like that.

Rat how dare you say that about Michelle:

“There was no doubt in my mind that as a member of the black community, I am obligated to this community and will utilize all of my present and future resources to benefit the black community first and foremost.”

Did anyone watch the debate? It made me laugh when Obama talks about how he believes in paying as you go and not borrowing money. Then in the next breath says we need to get credit flowing again.

Gibson pinned him on the capital gains tax. Made me smile.

Anyone else concerned about the new phrase "capture revenue" ?

say what about michelle obama? she's offensive to 90% of america only to please a 10% 'group' that is playing 'pitty party'. i hate how she keeps labeling groups. and minorties. i'm sick of pity parties. we need answers not blame. the minority in this country is THE INDIVIDUAL. not some group that has a 4-10% change in skin tone than mine. You^ and I are the minority in this country.

also i like how the 2% richest americans pay 99.6% of all taxes in the united states and he plans on taxing THEM to death. yep.

if he does that they'll be no rich in a few years. i'd ship my money and companies off shore in a heart beat. screw that.

To be fair, it was his wife who wrote that.

I doubt he had heard those comments, or he would have condemed them. However, he cannot choose his wife anymore than he can choose his pastor.

So much for that ONE america

When it comes down to it, he is just another liberal elite who will be buffered from attacks. A first term senator that speaks well....excuse me "inspires".

Did you watch gibson calling him out on raising captial gains? History has shown that increasing the capital gains tax decreases revenue. However, obama said to do it outta "fairness". Rich shouldnt pay less in taxes. Used people who have the ability to invest in wallstreet as an example. But somehow collecting LESS money is MORE fair, when his intent is to punish people who invest the money THEY ALREADY HAVE BEEN TAXED ON. Gotta love the liberal mind.

i honestly liked obama a few months ago. no i loved the guy and he was easily getting my vote. he had no bad history, no scars in his past and a great outlook on the future.

but everything out of his mouth these days is anti-this race, anti-this group, america clings to religion, my wife hates the country, i still like my anti-white pastor, we need to quadruple taxes, bla blah blah

then i'm like . he won't be receiving my vote with that rhetoric.

He seemed clean bc he is a first term senator without a record.

Despite what he says about working together and pretending to be a moderate. Look at his voting record. He only ONCE went against the democratic base. He NEVER voted in agreement with the republican party when it differed from the democrats.

Here is a link to his voting record.

So trying to honestly face some of the major problems with our country makes you mad?

Also, Obama hasn't really been talking like you think he's been talking. He's said a LOT of stuff that have nothing to do with race (actually MOST of what he says doesn't but the media's narrative loves to interject it), and the whole "bitter" thing was taken out of context, as anyone who listens to the original recording should be able to tell. Just like McCain's hundred-year thing was taken out of context.

^ Obama's moderate stance comes from his willingness to decrease power in the executive branch, and roll back some of the Bush's power grabs. It's an odd definition of moderate to use, but relative to the other democrats, it does make him look moderate.

McCain recently has taken on the neo-con line on his stances, which makes him fiscally liberal, and pander to the religious right, while being socially moderate, but that's what passes for "conservative" these days it seems.

When I hear fiscally conservative, I think long-term sustainable policies. I'll acknowledge though that this is a non-standard usage of conservative.

Neither the dems nor the repubs, including McCAin are pushing long-term sustainability. And McCain's plan is no better than Obamas or hillarys in this regard. He keeps taxes low, to cater to the voters, but keeps spending relatively high. The gulf between his in-takes out outlays are higher than OBamas, which doesn't strike me as a good idea.

Fair enough. I think we are looking at a huge deficit in the next few years regardless of who is in power because the economy is in a downturn.

Getting back to Obama's policies, I worry that he will send us into a full-blown recession with tax increases at a time when the economy is already reeling.

First supporting an oppressed minority group isn't offensive to the majority groups. And secondly, you're complaining about her pity party while trying to start a little pity here of your own. Do you not realize your hypocrisy here? And it's verges on borderline racism (or at the very least complete stupidity) to complain about blacks wanting to life themselves up, while then proclaiming that you, who is likely a middle class white male, is the REAL minority. Ha!

Quote :

What? The top 2% pay nowhere close to 99% of the tax revenues. I guess though when you can just make up who the minority groups are to suit your own delusions, you can make up statistics to reinforce you delusions too.
