give these guys a bigger fuel cell. i'm tired of seeing races come down to fuel mileage. i mean, i was glad to see edwards win, but winning on mpg is for pansies.

well with nascar banning all official testing this year that means that Daytona Speed Weeks has been cancelled so most of travelling guys will get a good 2 months to be at home.

Technically Speedweeks hasnt been cancelled, just testing. That does mean we get a few more weeks off, but we still have to be in Daytona for 3 weeks for the 500.

Thats awesome that they cancelled testing though...no Daytona or Vegas/California in January!

The last three years Gordon has been 6th, 2nd, and 7th. That's hardly shit.

Hell Junior would love to have those numbers.

RvrRat: Hardly. Jimmie has been my driver since I started watching NASCAR. Gordon is my Mom's favorite driver though. Guess that's why I'm a Hendrick fan, all around.

to be honest, if you started watching nascar when jimmie johnson was racing, you haven't seen enough to know a truly great racecar driver.

that post really explained a lot for me. i now understand that it's not your fault that you pull for them, you just don't know what nascar was/should be. you've only seen a bastardization of something great.

Let me re-phrase: Since I started watching NASCAR regularly. I watched it before he started racing the cup series in 2001. I've always watched it, but got more into it with age. Not to mention I am older than you are... please tell me how you have seen anymore of what "nascar was/should be" than I have?
I live less than 5 miles from the Petty's, I've always kept up with the Petty's, I watched Earnhardt race, I've watched some of the older greats race before they retired. I chose Jimmie Johnson as my driver once I was old enough to pick a driver and knew enough about the sport, and he's been my pick since then. I'm not going to be stuck in the past like many of the posters in this thread, and compare everyone to "how it used to be", or how "they would have never been able to do that before they added the restrictor plate", blah blah blah...

The sport advances and moves along. Go with it.

I'm sorry... I missed the part where I said that I've NOT watched any of the classic re-runs...

I'm not saying that its so much better than it was then... I don't even want to beat that dead horse any further.

Anyhow, JIMMIE JOHNSON MADE HISTORY WITH 3 CONSECUTIVE CUP WINS!!!! WOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I have a prediction for NASCAR 2009. There will be less than 40 teams racing in a substantial number of races.

DEI (or whatever it will be) will barely run 1 or 2 teams, certainly not 3 or 4.
MWR (Waltrip) will not run 3 teams next year.
Ganassi is already down to two teams, and I doubt the third team will be back next season.
Robby Gordon won't be able to run a full season next year.

This year 45 teams normally show up for the 43 spots. Assuming everything else stays the same, that would give us 41 teams competing.

Now consider teams like 21-Woods Brothers, 78 - Furniture Row, Petty Enterprises' two cars, and the three cars of Gillette Everham and Penske that might not field as many cars next year, and NASCAR could have a large problem.

7/7/2008 9:01:09 PM"

Well, I told you so!

from http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/nascar/cup/columns/story?columnist=blount_terry&page=BlountsBlitz :

Cars and sponsorships

Cars committed to running the full schedule -- 37

We aren't counting the famous 43. That would make 38. And one or two others could run the full schedule.

Fully funded cars -- 29 of the 37

Four have no listed sponsorship. Four others have sponsors for part of the season but not the entire season.
