It is a very small privately owned company. We only had 8 employees and no IT department. We just had this guy that did IT stuff on the side and would come in whenever we needed something for our computers. That's why I am pretty sure it was something basic that could be purchased by anyone. Shit, we only had like 10 computers in the whole office and they weren't even on a network.

We used Windows Live Messenger. I could have IMed people outside of the office if I wanted to, but I never did.

Yeah, it's a pretty recent law, it has something to do with record-keeping IRS wise...

Something about if you have an official IM system installed, managed, and maintained by the company that is used for company business, all IMs are required to be logged. Yahoo, AIM, and those other sorts don't matter.

I remember it because I read about it and realized that a good 98% of companies would never be compliant, because it was something snuck in.
