But you’d hope he’d cool his jets when he stepped up to the next level. I mean, I was king shit in college too, but I knew my place when I started working in the real word. You just don’t waltz in and become the alpha dog overnight. You have to earn your keep. But some people don't realize that.

I swear its like groundhog day every year with our draft trading

Percy Harvin, Eddie Royal and Desean Jackson have demonstrated over the past 2 seasons that speedy little fuckers can have an immediate impact at WR in the NFL.

If Armanti can make an impact even close to one of those guys, he'll be well worth the 2nd round pick.

agreed. How can you honestly think this team "Will do fine" next year when we don't know who our QB is going to be? I am a huge panthers fan, but its been how long since we didnt know who the QB was going to be? Remember what that was like?

To test: how many other teams that don't know who their QB is going to be next year do you think will also "do fine"? The answer may help you realize that you are, in fact, an illogical homer.

We will be more than Fine....Moore starts and ends the season as starter so long as he is not injured!

I also think everything will be OK as long as Moore doesn't get hurt...But if/when he does, we're done.

Moore will be our QB

On the other hand, would you think this team "Will do fine" if we did know who our QB was going to be, and it was going to be Jake Delhomme?

^I'm confident in Moore...It's the fear that the coaching staff is going to favor clausen, or what happens if moore gets hurt that worries me.

[Edited on May 6, 2010 at 2:40 PM. Reason : Jake shouldn't have even been starting last year imo]

geez, im sorry I thought there was alot of talk about Clausen seriously competing for the job... my bad guys!

the delhomme part is irrelevant at this point. that aside, yes the probability would be higher - given that teams who you can say "will do fine" are ones like NO and ATL who wont have the ? at QB going into the season.

dont get me wrong, I think that Moore, Clausen, or someone will grow into a winner behind our stacked running game. I'm just saying that we probably wont have the consistency and excellence at QB it will take to make the playoffs/"do fine" without a sure-fire starting QB going into the season. the NFL isnt as much like college in this respect...

this is not an absolute statement - but one of probabilities. go panthers

Steve Smith denies referring to Jimmy Clausen as a "punk"
Posted by Mike Florio on May 6, 2010 3:18 PM ET
In response to our item from earlier today regarding initial impressions made by Panthers rookie quarterback Jimmy Clausen, we're told that receiver Steve Smith strongly disputes the notion that he believes Clausen is a "punk."

We're told that Smith already has sent a text message to Clausen stating the it's "all BS."

Also, Smith will appear on WFNZ tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. ET in Charlotte to tell his side of the story. I'll be appearing on WFNZ at some point thereafter, during which time I'll surely say once (or more than once) what I'm about to say right now.

"We stand by our story."

Whens the last time the Panthers had a sure-fire starting QB...Jake's 2nd season as a starter? Beurlein?

Would you feel more comfortable if we had a backup with NFL experience like say...David Carr?

call him a punk for all i care, just don't jab him in the fucking jaw when he's not paying attention. because at the end of the day you are still the only person on the team that can catch the damn ball.

by "bigger picture" i probably meant to say, what the important thing to pay attention to at this point is. and i think it is going to be a pretty awesome QB battle in the preseason. i still think Moore will start, and i think he's earned that title as starting QB, but its great to at least have some excitement for a QB battle that can make both of them better in the long run. i think it's best to keep it "wide open" for the sake of competition.

its not like we're used to the situation. last year's preseason "QB battle" wasn't one at all, the panthers were committed to jake, and at that point i think we had to be. you couldn't just dispose the guy in week 1 for the last game of the previous year. with that said...we should have benched him a lot earlier than the Jets game when he was forced out.

Yes, I was hoping we'd get Campbell and we could've used the 2nd rounder on our D line.

It was a joke that they even called it a competition after giving him that fat extention....It was also a joke that Fox stuck by his "Jake gives us the best chance to win" bs.

Jake had multiple horrible games that year, especially in the last half of the season...iirc we beat KC and Oakland in spite of jake in '08.

Jamarcus Russell is available for those who want a a QB who has GT experience.

For me, I will roll with Moore and Clausen as back up right now. I would not have minded Campbell, but that ship has sailed. Let's Go MOORE!!!

jake had better freakin stats in 2008 in nearly every category than in 2003 (super bowl season). how can you be serious? his QB rating was 84.7 compared to 80.6 in spite of those awful games.

stats dont lie. oh yea, we also went 12-4.

there is no way you can throw out the Arizona playoff game and still feel as strongly as you supposedly do about that.

Check that, Jakes KC game was one of his best that year.

In total that year (not counting AZ), he had 15 tds and 12 ints (and 3 lost fumbles), including 12 games with 1 or less TDs. Never broke 300 yards passing and had under 200 8 times.

He had a few good moments but was otherwise masked by a stellar run game and the 'go up and get it' ability of Smitty.

^^Hence my principle argument for starting moore over jake in '09

I also think we'll be in decent shape this year...as long as Moore stays healthy. Although I do think there will be a few games where we'll have to put up 30+ to win.

weekly MMQB shoutout from Peter King:

Quote :
"8. Carolina. Dangerous team. Very deceiving 8-8 record last year. While everyone tiptoed around it because everyone in the Carolinas loves Jake Delhomme, something awful happened to him in the last year and a half, and he just couldn't play quarterback for this team anymore. Check out what Matt Moore did in his last three starts: three wins, 66-percent accuracy, seven touchdowns, zero picks, and the Panthers outscored three foes 90-26. (Asterisk on the third, New Orleans, because the Saints played the JV that day.) This will be John Fox's last year with the Panthers -- the owner, Jerry Richardson, doesn't want to be in the business of laying off employees and paying a former coach $6 million a year in this economy -- and I think he'll say full speed ahead, damn the torpedoes, forget next year, I'm doing everything I can to win right now. And he'll win enough to make the Wild Card."

Not everyone had the "well, he sucks, but I like him because he's a nice guy" attitude towards Jake. People's hatred for him as a QB blinded them to the fact that he was a good human being.

[Edited on May 17, 2010 at 2:09 PM. Reason : but talking about Jake doesn't really matter anymore; dumb of me to highlight it in the first place]

Panthers announce training camp schedule

The Carolina Panthers have released their training camp schedule, which starts a bit earlier than last summer.

The Panthers will report to Wofford College on Wednesday, July 28, and the first practices take place July 29.

The Panthers have a few more promotions during camp this year, including movies after some night practices and players throwing T-shirts to fans following Tuesday afternoon sessions. Returning is the "Panthers Pals" program, which allows young fans a chance to get up close and personal with players.

There will also be a "Back to Football," party on Saturday, July 31. The party begins before the night practice and continues afterward in Gibbs Stadium.

Here's a look at the entire camp schedule:

July 29 (9 a.m., 6:30 p.m.)
