Its two innings max
Pitchers routinely start the ASG with that much rest or less, otherwise you're cutting out 60% of the talent pool 7/7/2011 5:30:13 PM |

I would expect Roy would start. I was just shocked that 3 of 4 nationally known sports writers would pick JJ over him. 7/7/2011 5:43:15 PM |

If JJ is not the starter, then it is some straight up bullshit. He is one of only three pitchers to win 12 games with a sub 2 ERA before the all star break in something like the last 25 years. The other two being Greg Maddux and Randy Johnson. Dude deserves the start.
This weekend is going to be tough for the Braves - Halladay, Lee, Hamels. The Braves counter with Beachy, Hanson, Lowe. Sucks that the Braves face the Phils top three in a row. I'll be happy with one win in this series. 7/8/2011 7:26:19 AM |

Sucks the Braves could not get the W on Friday, but at least they got one out of the series. Today's game was a guaranteed loss - Hamels vs Lowe
Honestly if the season ended today and the Braves made the playoffs, I'd hope that Fredi would leave Lowe in the pen or off the roster all together. He sucks huge right now. Maybe he'll find his sinker again like he did in the 2nd half last year.

Wow. This is with him having to make spots starts for the Braves (in which he got rocked). Pretty damn impressive. It'll be interesting to see the Braves give him more of a steady look later in the season if Lowe continues to suck or if someone like Hanson or JJ need more rest.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Medlen can return later this season and come back strong like a lot of Tommy John pitchers seem to do. That would get Lowe out of the rotation quickly unless Fredi made the mistake of dropping Beachy to the pen.
Man look at this future starting rotation assuming the Braves can afford JJ long term:
1. JJ 2. Hanson 3. Medlen 4. Beachy 5. Teheran
Plus you've got Vizcaino lighting it up too. Need to develop some young hitters to go with Heyward and Freeman though.7/11/2011 8:18:36 AM |

Per the AJC, Medlen's elbow is staying sore and they are shutting him down from throwing until Sept. Looks like we won't see him again until next spring at best. Sucks. Could have been a valuable piece down the stretch. 7/14/2011 8:12:58 AM |

According to a recent harris poll, the braves are the 3rd most popular team in MLB, behind only the Yankees and Bo-Sox.
http://www.ajc.com/sports/atlanta-braves/braves-third-in-mlb-1016919.html
Since 2003, the braves have consistently been in the top 3, and were the most popular for a good part of the 90's. 7/15/2011 10:07:39 AM |

^^. Exactly, that and TBS means there are a LOT of people that love the Braves that have nothing to do with Atlanta. Cubs were somewhat similar with WGN but they were in a market already saturated with baseball (Midwest, the north in general). 7/15/2011 1:13:44 PM |
