people have been cycling in and out since the city and the state won't allow anyone to sit on the sidewalk or sleep in public or to assemble on the Capitol Building lawn, they may be now but the first few days those things and keeping a stock of supplies were prohibited, they are negotiating with both the city and the state to work to an acceptable agreement about those things 10/18/2011 5:02:36 PM |

Read the last post and the first post on the news page for an account of whats going on, having been down there and witnessed most of this myself, I can say that its a fairly accurate depiction of the response to the protest no one is exaggerating the actions of the police or the general lack of actual response from the city or state other than a "we hear you, we're working on something"
but since this is the occupywallstreet thread i suggest we move that discussion to the occupyraleigh thread 10/18/2011 5:14:54 PM |

A tent city in Asheville is about as revolutionary as a three piece chicken combo at Bojangles on Western Blvd.
SRSLY though...Raleigh is where the laws are made and Charlotte has the financial institutions. I really think NC's efforts should be focused entirely on those two cities if protestors want to be as effective as possible.

why do they have to be on the capitol lawn itself?
why not protest beside it on the sidewalks. what's so important about trampling on the actual greenery and shrubs in there? 10/18/2011 5:37:48 PM |

i'm a little interested to know what the exact locations of these things are.
I take it they're around the old capital building, you know, the one with the historical stuff. I think the relevance of that might be disputable, but I don't think the actual capital has much of a lawn to protest.
And what exactly is the "sidewalk"? Is it the paved area within the block? That's plenty of space. If it's just the sidewalk adjacent to the street, then that's not very much. 10/18/2011 5:54:43 PM |

its just the sidewalk next to the street, anyone trying to protest on the paved area of the capitol building or the lawn faces being arrested and banned from setting foot on the capitol building property under court order 10/18/2011 5:57:12 PM |

This I agree with. Aside from political beliefs, at least show some respect for the military, especially if you served.

At this juncture we hope everyone plainly realizes how much this movement goes against not only darwinism and the very basic nature of the survival of the fittest, but also violates several basic fundamental governing laws of the universe regarding energy, work, and momentum.
