I like that we're back to flying under the radar. Last season I think most agreed top 10 was way too high to start the season. NC State tends to always do better in the underdog role.
And those talking about "top 3"....yeah scrap that completely. No way we beat out Duke, UNC, or Syracuse for a top 3 spot. I think realistic goals are top 6 in the ACC this year without too many embarrassing(blow-outs, losing to crap teams) losses and a respectable season. It'll allow Gott to keep recruiting momentum going and if we somehow manage to find some good team chemistry this year, could really serve us well starting so many young players. Not saying we'll be like last season's Miami in 3 years, but we could be positioning ourselves well with a good young core. 5/9/2013 7:44:29 AM |

It's going to take a fluke conference tourney championship or something similar to get over that "underdog only" mentality. 5/9/2013 8:01:54 AM |

Also, their jerseys run a little big I think. I wear a large shirt normally but need a medium jersey. That may be normal for jerseys tho

Leaving for the nba before you are dominant in college ball is essentially quitting college ball. Theres no denying that. 5/10/2013 5:54:32 PM |

Growing up thinking there was nothing better than ACC basketball, I used to wonder why anyone would leave to sit on the bench in the NBA or bounce around Europe. Now being out of school and seeing how hard is to make anywhere near the amount these guys can get as 20 year olds, I won't fault anyone for leaving early if you can play at the next level. All the college basketball glory in the world didn't keep Lorenzo Charles from winding up a bus driver. I don't care if you're dominant or not, if you can leave and earn $$$ at the next level, you do it. That kind of money isn't going to be around forever, the more years you give away your talent, the less you make. 5/10/2013 6:20:08 PM |
The E Man Suspended 15268 Posts user info edit post |
That only works if you are ready to play in the NBA. NBA teams don't waste time developing players who aren't ready. They give them a shot then they send them to the d league. They will however, be patient to train players that have elite potential. Brown and Leslie can't shoot or defend well-enough to play in the nba. Something they could have developed in college with full-attention of a staff.
This is why the general rule of thumb is to stay until you are a lotto pick. 5/10/2013 6:37:48 PM |

only 14 people each year are lotto picks. there are new blue chippers every year coming in. the nba loves drafting on potential, the more you show them, the more weaknesses they see. Look at the people who stayed around last year. Zeller dropped. Leslie dropped. Mcadoo dropped. The chances of you falling are greater than they are of you moving up. look at the nfl, matt barkley would have been a 1st rounder and been someone's future, now he's a fourth rounder and stuck as a second stringer.
back to basketball, you stay around college and you may keep getting asked to play a college role that's different than what you'll do on the pro level. Mcadoo should sue UNC for making him play the 4 and at times 5 when he's a clear NBA 3. he looked terrible there because they used him for their purposes, not developed him for his future. you go to the nba, they develop you for the role you're going to play.
most importantly, it's not all about nba or d-league. there's decent money to be made in europe and elsewhere abroad. You're a first rounder and it doesn't work out, go to europe and regroup. You won't be a multi-millionaire, but you'll make much more than average. It's a fact that athletes have a limited amount of years before their body breaks down and they get passed by the next generation. Wasting time in college just throws away money you're not going to get back on the back end. 5/10/2013 7:20:15 PM |

Yeah dude you are completely nuts earl. Even if they only make 60k thats like three times what most stars make in college. Your game will develop much more as a pro than it will wasting more time in college.
The longer you stay the less you make and your stock slides each year you dont improve dramatically 5/10/2013 7:43:25 PM |

It doesn't matter why they are doing it or if it makes sense in the situation. That is still "quitting" college and not the sign of a strong program. At the elite programs you even see the occasional lotto pick stay in school.
Sometimes it makes since to quit college for anyone but not if you are in a good program and don't have an elite job lined up. Same applies to basketball.
There is no need to go to college at all to make money in basketball. Any ACC starter could potentially make money playing somewhere and eventually get the chance to play in the nba. 5/10/2013 9:28:27 PM |

Half the team did leave before finishing.
Brown- quit Purvis- transfer Wood- back Howell- grad Leslie- quit Warren- back Lewis- back TDT -quit
4/8 quit/transferred 2/8 graduated 2/8 are back
Again, Titans is the only one who said Wood and Howell quit. 5/21/2013 12:48:42 PM |

^ Includes TDT in order to get his numbers right, but leaves out Vandy. LOL
Also glad to see that Wood is coming back. If you really want to get down to the facts, we had one player of significance quit/transfer and that was Purvis. It was a fucking given that Brown and CJL were gone for reasons already posted many times on here. Has nothing to do with Gott. Wood and Howell graduated.
So yes out of our primary 7 man rotation last year, we are only returning 2 players (Lewis and Warren) and only 1 of those 7 players quit/transferred. If you are going to pull in guys like TDT, then we better start including Jevoni in the argument and I'll add Turner because even though he was not eligible, he was part of the team and he did not quit. Give it up you lame ass troll... 5/21/2013 1:53:23 PM |

If you want to consider leaving for the draft "quitting" that's fair enough. But now you need to explain why players leaving early for the draft could possibly hurt our recruiting momentum.

players leaving early after dominating the college level is a good thing when those guys are lottery picks.
if a guy leaves when he is clearly NOT a lotto pick it means he is either sick of playing for the coach, doesn't think the coach can teach him anything or is tired of playing on a losing team. All of those are bad.
Look at the good programs. Most of the guys who leave early are lotto picks or dominated in college.5/23/2013 11:26:20 PM |
