What is the opposite of fun?

Everything about that game was the opposite of fun.

That was awful.

it's not even that...if they had somebody competent it could be interesting. instead, mike carey brings absolutely nothing to the broadcast. he doesn't come off as an authority on officiating (literally his on job) and is not a good no-air speaker. get somebody competent and (maybe don't throw it to him every other play unnecessarily) it's a perfectly fine addition to the broadcast.

Mike Carey was CBS's answer to Mike Pereira for FOX. I generally enjoy Pereira's take as he clearly knows specific rules and often defies the call on the field. Carey never seems ready when they throw it to him and in general sounds like those letters the league puts out on Tuesday to defend bad rulings. More of a mouthpiece for the NFL rather than commentary.

Gerry Austin on ESPN is pretty bad as well. Sounds like he's waking up from a nap whenever he starts talking.

Have to imagine Hochuli will be strongly considered for one of these gigs once he retires from the field.

Mike Carey combined with Nantz and Simms have a shot to break the record for unintentional humor every week

they're so bad that they add a bit of hilarious intrigue to every game they call

it's also fun to see how long CBS will keep going to Carey who has a worse % of getting challenges right than pre-Riverboat Ron

The announcers already are explaining the rules while the replay is going on. The call usually comes down to upheld, overturned, or not enough evidence to overturn. It's usually a personal judgement call in the end from the pros upstairs. Mike Carey adds nothing.

the concept of an officiating expert to explain reviews and shit is perfectly fine. and like others have said mike pereira does a fine job on fox. but mike carey is just really bad at his job.

Pereira blows too

How are they experts when they routinely say "so therefore this one is going to be upheld" and then the officials on the field overturn it

yeah pereira routinely gets it wrong...but at least he seems comfortable talking on-air. carey has difficulty stringing together words and sentences...just doesn't seem comfortable at all.

you're getting a perspective that wasn't available 5 years ago

it's a great concept that isn't always executed. Pereria is light years better than Carey.

Maybe I'm questioning the officiating in general. When the supposed expert says one thing, and then the on-field officials are supposed to confer with "the New York office" or whatever to decide what the call should be. Judgment calls are one thing. These motherfuckers still don't know what a catch is or not after 6 angles of slo-mo replays.

what if the officials are making mistakes or breaking the rules.

I feel like officials use their own judgement sometimes to overturn calls that don't have indisputable evidence but they use their judgement to say "it most likely happened this way"

You might be right. RW is using the entire play clock to warm his hands and isn't executing right now.

good lord...SEA just can't get the snap off. what's that...at least 3 (maybe all 4TOs) used to avoid delays. and at least 1 delay flag thrown on them.

it was a bad pass...but to be fair, it was 4th down so he kinda had nothing to lose by taking a chance.

Did I miss something? Minn is kicking FGs left and right from 40+ yards, but Seattle is afraid to kick anything unless it's a chip shot. Is their place kicker hurt or something?

naw, they showed hauschka ready to come on the field on an early 4th down...but the offense stayed out there. he doesn't seem to be hurt.

If Wilson spent 4 years at Wisconsin, he'd be used to this shit. But instead, once again, his time in Raleigh haunts him.
