Howell and Wood are the only guys you can count on to be solid rotation players for next year from this years class. As much as I like Davis for his hustle and Painter's potential, they shouldn't really be seeing much time at all at this point and ideally they would be just practicing and getting physically more mature this year.

I do like having Javi being around to allow Harrow to learn while not shouldering all of the minutes. 'Zo Brown will likely start from Day 1 since our 2-guard options right now are so piss poor.

And he was highlighting that class because most great teams have a solid nucleus of juniors and seniors to rely on. We basically have Smith and MAYBE Javi if he can stop turning the ball over so much...

The problem with Javi is that he basically plays like a talented freshman. A lot of good, a lot of bad

So essentially we're going to have 1 upperclassman next year. You can still win with that, but it's damn hard

exactly. everyone thought he was going to get solid minutes based on this improvement at the end of last year. kind of telling that he is scared to compete against lo brown.

we desperately need shooters. CJ would have gotten mad minutes if he were willing to step up and make shots. Might even make up for slow feet on defense. There are minutes available and no one is taking advantage at the 2 spot. we are simply going with the person who is less bad

Honestly, the 2 AND 3 have available minutes. Wood is solid for a freshman so I know people are all over his nuts for that but really, most top 20 teams have a guy like him as their 4th or 5th best player. Depending on how the depth chart goes, a lot of times that guy will be coming off the bench. If CJ had done anything this year he'd be set for a lot of minutes next year

only thing that puts Wood on the bench is CJ Leslie. Otherwise if he can play he'll be a starter

If we get leslie, he will share time at the 3 and the 4 with wood and howell. Wood can even slide over to the 2 and guard slower 2 guards. Didn't wood shut down landesburg the last game? His length can make up for some speed.

Anyway, most of the time you put your most talented team on the floor. Don't worry about positions. Brown and leslie can easily come off the bench if they aren't ready to go early in the year. Wood is much less likely to come off the bench, since we need shooters almost as bad as we need a penetrator.

I've waited a few hours and it looks like everyone else is so depressed or mad that they can't post.

I am really going to wonder if Lo Brown, Harrow, and Cothron are going to change their minds. At this rate, even Fowler may have to fire Lowe. The stands are getting less crowded each game. There are sections in the 300 level that have become completely empty. This is really getting out of hand. I've seen the videos of Harrow and I know he's nasty, but do you guys really want to keep this circus around to keep him? Right now I couldn't help but look at the new video boards and see the arena with our fans and think "We have a NBA arena and a high school team."

If and when Fowler (Hopefully soon, maybe that could be the one plus of this basketball disaster) goes, then Lowe needs to follow him right out the door. There is a chance that we can get a coach in here with a new/competent AD that could potentially keep at least one or all three guys. Flame away but how low do things have to get to keep this going?

at this point i'm really just hoping that lowe is so bad that he'll manage to still suck even w/ harrow and brown. then we can get a real coach (hired by a real AD) and do something with them for a couple years, while he gets his recruits started up

i wouldnt worry about the friends from georgia leaving. GT was winless in the ACC deep into the schedule last year and that didnt stop any of their monster class from coming. I'm not sure what Cothron's motivation is at this point but I honestly don't really care. He's way more replaceable than the other guys

For a team that everyone loved because of "effort" I have to say I haven't seen such an uninspired performance since I became a State student/fan in '00. This was horrible and the defensive effort was ATROCIOUS.

I'm starting to feel that he has completely lost this team. Aren't teams supposed to get better as the season goes? It's a running theme, aside from his first year, that we get progressively worse. You can stomach that if it is an anomaly but it's three years in a row now.

^^ I agree. I still believe Sid deserves next year, but that is it. Eventually we have to show some improvement somewhere. It looked like we were making progress early in the year and I was hopeful after that FSU-Clemson-Duke span, but clearly that was more luck than actual talent/skill/teamwork.

Watching the team play last night was painful as a State fan. Outside of a that small run late in the 1st half, we were flat out disgusting and embarrassing.

I hate to say it but I've completely given up on the team. I've been offered free tickets to the games and don't go. I've gone to 2, maybe three games and now I'm done. I don't even want to watch our team anymore.

Putting up 7 to 11 points in the first 13 MINUTES of a game over and over again is pathetic. I never thought I'd feel this way but I have better things to do with my time. The team doesn't look like they give a shit and now neither do I.

We played great defense on Delaney. We out rebounded them. We took care of the ball reasonably well and forced more turnovers than we made. We couldn't hit ANY jump shots (How many teams can claim they went 0-11 from the arc AT HOME). I think we are the only team in the ACC that shots worse at home than we do on the road. If we had even been able to hit 30% of our threes the entire complexion of the game would have changed. The game plan wasn't bad. The shooting was atrocious. As usual we were hampered by our lack of talent at the guard position. Unless Lowe was telling them to deliberately miss their jumpshots I am pretty sure the blame lies with our guards on this one.

Nice blame shifting.

When game after game we complain about the missed 3's maybe we should change the gameplan up and go for higher perentage shots?

People assume that open 22 footers are high percentage shots, but in the college game there are only a select few players who actually are capable of having that be a high perecentage shot for them.

Look at how few 3pt's we put up in the second half idiot. We did change our game plan (we average over 16 3pt shots a game and only put up 11 for the entire game) but when your low post scorer is sick (throwing up before and at half time) and you can't take any pressure off of him by hitting outside shots you are fucked.
Quote :

Thats funny because there are very few teams out there who are incapable of hitting a single 3pt shot for the entire game! Our guards sucked and in the college game if you don't have decent guard play you are done.

*FYI we are averaging 33.6% at the 3pt line which is equivalent to hitting 45% inside which is acceptable from a coaching perspective so we will continue putting up 3pt shots despite what TWW "coaching masterminds" think.

^^That's a bit unfair. I agree that the defensive effort, at times, was atrocious, but it's hard to fault a gameplan that dictates taking only 10 three pointers and then not making a single one.

In the college game, if you can't hit anything outside, your inside high percentage game is gonna be near impossible to implement. They were doubling down on tracy every single time with back helpside defense for blocks. Tracy would kick it out to an open shooter and they would brick the hell out of it.

What can you do when you have basically one semi-reliable on outside shooter on the floor at any given time and he is so one dimensional offensively that they can face him up at all times so he can't get a shot off?

If we ever shoot even average, our offense is a thing of beauty.

Yesterday we had 9 points until ~10:30 minutes of play had elapsed; we'd allowed 26.
Against GT we had 9 points until ~13 minutes of play had elapsed; we'd allowed 17.

That's not going to get the job done.

^^ look, man... if we hit our shots our offense is awesome. I know that is a total mind effer but it's true!

Quote :

I very much disagree. The only time we ever go on any scoring run at all is if one of our guys is uncharacteristically and almost unbelievable hot from everywhere or when Tracy has a huge mismatch inside (see Zoubrick on him).

Otherwise there is way too much isolation and not enough movement to have our current personnel run. And I know that Lowe knows more basketball than me to whoever called me an idiot... but I also know that I played basketball for a long time and know a thing or two about the game too. I don't see the harm and criticizing when I see fit.

^^The thing is, though, what kind of offense can you run if your guards can't shoot consistently, but they also can't really create off the dribble? What offensive gameplan makes that skillset look ok?

I agree our D was awful last night. No excuse for lack of effort and Lowe should be held responsible for that. But when guys are getting wide open to semi-open looks and just clanging it every time, what can a coach do on offense to help that?

Lol I knew it. We play the worst game we have since Northwestern and adder still thinks Lowe did a good job. Come on man when are you going to either wake the fuck up or learn basketball? At least in earlier losses we were playing with heart and intensity. Now there is no effort. I don't see how anyone can defend Lowe for last night when his team obviously didn't give a shit.

I've always been a huge supporter of Lowe. I know he came in a situation with no recruiting ties, no set staff, no degree and only 6 players recruited for a different offense. I know that he has a very strong class coming in next year, but I'm really damn sick of this. Seeing this team regress so far as the year has gone on has really pissed me off about the entire situation. Lowe would've been a great hire as a recruiting coordinator here or a top assistant, but unless our offense looks magical with a real PG then we're screwed next year too.

so the shots didn't go in because the players didn't care enough when they shot them? we shot 0% from 3 pt range and 30% overall for the game... i just don't see how that is coaching. maybe a different coaching strategy would have seen us lose by less than 20, but i don't see how any strategy could make up for shooting that terrible.

what do you think of roy this year now that he has no guards? we're performing about on par with them right now, and we don't have 8 mcdonalds all americans on our team. it all starts with guard play.

How many times have we played them at home in the last 90+ years? Just trying to quantify it better than people in the media that are trying to grab attention with quick one-liners. I'm wondering if it's one of those cases where we've never played a team in a home game before, we lose, and the headline is

"NCSU loses first home game to team x in school history!1!1!ELEVENTY!1!!1"

Or is it something more substantial, like now we're 6-1 vs VT at home. Which still isn't a big deal. IMO the loss to ECU from a few years was much worse.

Again. The theme, if you will, of this thread is whether or not we think the head coach is the right one to lead us back to where we believe we should be. Not about whether or not he is having one bad/good game or even season. It's about the overall credibility he has as a college head coach.

Continuing to bring up a 2-time National Champion who has (????) the highest winning percentage of all active coaches does nothing to change anyone's mind about SIDNEY LOWE. In fact, the only purpose I see to mention it all is to make us feel better about our dismal last four seasons. That is the ONLY relevance it has.

The ONLY thing I can see that people can say positively about Lowe is his teams get hot every once in a while and win some games they probably shouldn't (UNC his first year, Duke this year, etc) and that he has two guards who MIGHT be impact players coming next year.

I just don't see any other positives at all... and especially not in the last 2.5 seasons.
