^ Doesn't 4.1 have some sort of Siri competitor? Have you tried that yet?

To answer BigEgo's question, I have installed and uninstalled adobe flash from the play store countless times. Cleared caches, rebooted, tried different browsers and nothing. It seems the droid forums are starting to have more people with this issue. I'm thinking most who say it works for them are visiting sites like youtube that can use both flash and html5. If you check out all the reviews on the play store from the past few weeks most of them are people ranting and pissed off now because the update with ICS (at least on the razr) can't play embedded flash. It wouldn't be such an issue about flash for me, except that now any sites that has this flash player issue seems to lock up my browser and I have to FC it. No more news feeds via video now.

^^Right, that is Google Now. So instead of being a "personal assistant" like Siri, it's more of an information service. It can analyze traffic data for you when it's time to go home, fetch the weather for you, get other data like sports scores and stuff. From what I've seen it doesn't actually talk to you like Siri does. Also, I don't think they've added anything to the voice actions. I expected to be able to do more via voice commands to keep up with Siri. For example, Siri can create calendar appointments but Google Now can't.
7/8/2012 5:29:30 PM
won't siri be able to do all that stuff in iOS6?
7/8/2012 9:15:07 PM
^^The new personal assistant in Jelly Bean is exactly like Siri. Google Now is another piece of software entirely. From what I've tested between Jelly Bean's PA and Siri, Google's version is faster and much more human like in sound. Siri responds more humanly, if that makes sense. Both make calendar appointments, tell you the weather, sports scores, etc. Google Now is rather innovative, but crude. It keeps updated "cards" of info. For example, if you ask for the score of a Yankees game, it'll assume the Yanks are your team and will keep an updated card with their latest game info of that day. It'll remember where "home" is for you and tell you how long it'll take you to get there from your current location given traffic info. It's futuristic in some ways, assuming info you want to know, but it needs tweaking.

7/8/2012 11:42:47 PM
^^So Jelly Bean has a "personal assistant" that is separate from Google Now? If so, I haven't found it yet. Am I missing something? All I have seen is Google Now and the pre-existing voice actions that android had.
7/9/2012 2:19:06 PM
i posted a video of it a page or two back
7/9/2012 3:01:36 PM
If you're on JB, I always tapped the microphone in the google search box and it worked for me. "What's the weather today?" was my normal query.
7/9/2012 3:10:39 PM
Oh okay then yeah sure. I guess I was expecting it to be able to control the phone more. You had the ability to search for stuff with the voice search/voice actions in Gingerbread. My wife uses Siri to schedule calendar appointments often and I wish I could do that.
7/9/2012 3:36:32 PM
JB source code is out. ROMs INCOMING
7/9/2012 10:05:14 PM
^^I was able to do that with the JB assistant.
7/9/2012 10:24:57 PM
My friend made a game. I haven't tried it yet, but I will give it a shot later today
7/10/2012 10:51:40 AM
^^I'll keep screwing with it then. I must be doing something wrong.
7/10/2012 11:07:20 AM
okay so the new OTA for the Sprint GS3 out today kills the search capability for searching the whole phone. fuck. you. apple. http://phandroid.com/2012/07/10/sprints-galaxy-s3-security-update-features-dumbed-down-search-app-attempts-to-prevent-apple-lawsuit/(of course it can be fixed by installing the old GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk, but still)the patent system is fucking ridiculous.now I just need to figure out if this update kills root or not or if I can install it without worrying...?[Edited on July 10, 2012 at 1:26 PM. i don't understand why they just don't use all their motorola patents and kill the iphone being able to make calls at alli guess it's all licensed and shit but still, if apple is going to continue being a petty little bitch then revoke them and sue them

Well hell, anyone want to buy a gently used Galaxy SIII http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-offer-hacker-friendly-developer-edition-galaxy-s-iii
7/10/2012 8:04:05 PM
gg samsung
7/10/2012 8:54:36 PM
Since you've had it less than 14 days, just return it. Of course, now you'll be paying more because A) you aren't getting a 'discounted' phone and B) they aren't reducing your rate since you bought your own phone. This whole phone cost subsidizing needs to go away.
7/11/2012 8:47:26 AM
Or just find some poor unsuspecting sap to buy it. It'll be interesting to see if Samsung follows through and doesn't flake out like Motorola did with their supposed developer edition of the Razr. And who knows, maybe it'll help crack the consumer version. *fingers crossed*
7/11/2012 9:05:42 AM
7/11/2012 9:23:18 AM
yeah, I was referring to the cracking the Verizon version. Sure things will probably end up being just different enough that it won't work similar to how you can't copy the bootloaders from the Sprint, AT&T or Tmobile versions. Not sure why they wouldn't just offer an unlock tool like HTC does rather than a completely different device.]
7/11/2012 9:30:37 AM
I can't figure out what the magic combination of words to use to get Google Now to make a calendar appointment. Every time I try it just does a Google search. What are you guys saying?

I'm at the office and don't want to sound like a nerd talking to my phone so I can't test.Google; Remind me to feed my roommate's kangaroo on July 21st at 8pm.Does that work?I know that "Set my alarm for 7.30" works from an alarm standpoint.[Edited on July 13, 2012 at 3:25 PM. Reason : ]

I'm running the latest Jelly Bean ROM (from XDA) on my Nexus S 4G - makes the phone seem so much newer. Maybe I can last till my upgrade in March now. That, along w/ the new Nexus 7 beside me make the house seem much more jellybean-ey.

Thinking of rooting my Verizon GNex and putting Jelly Bean on there. Only thing that's stopping me is that I might not get the auto-restore function for apps and settings via the Google backup service. That's what happened to me when I rooted y Nexus S and installed ICS. Does anyone know what happens with the settings and app restore?

My iphone 4 (Verizon) has about had it so I'm finally going to have to do something. I'm looking at the Verizon Galaxy S3. Everything I've seen says it's the phone to get on V. Any arguments to the contrary? Also, the one thing that I constantly use on my iphone is having all of my photos sync to icloud & then to my desktop seamlessly. Is there a way to do this with Android? Everything I've found so far basically sounds like I have to physically open the app and hit sync and that's not what I want. With my iphone, I walk into work/home or anywhere with wifi and my phone automatically starts uploading all new phones to icloud (I don't have to do anything but take photos). Then they all download to my desktop at home/work automatically so I don't have to do anything. I'm looking for the same functionality on Android.
7/15/2012 11:11:49 AM
dropbox can do that
7/15/2012 1:42:34 PM
I only have 2gb with dropbox and I don't want to have to pay for the service. I'd pay for an app but I have plenty of storage with Skydrive and Google so paying for the larger Dropbox storage is pointless. Any other options? I know you can sync them to Google+ automatically so maybe something other than Picasa to automatically download?
7/15/2012 2:09:57 PM
doubletwist?
7/15/2012 2:59:20 PM
Sounds like Portfolio for Skydrive might do just what you're looking for:http://www.snapwoodapps.com/skyfolio.html
7/15/2012 3:29:36 PM
^ That would be perfect except my use is off-charger. ^^ That could work I guess. That looks like the best option I've seen so far event though it still requires me to open the app.Basically, I go out to a job site & take photos, walk into my office, in 5-10 minutes the photos are synced and on my desktop waiting to be viewed/printed. I don't have to do anything at all and the phone stays in my pocket. I just assumed that since Apple is usually a step or so behind that functionality like that already existed with Android. It looks like Doubletwist is going to be the best option. Maybe I can set up Tasker to automate the process somehow.
7/15/2012 3:49:08 PM
Oh yeah, blue or white? I'm thinking blue but someone mentioned a purplish tint and that's meh
7/15/2012 5:33:47 PM
Those saying it's purple are dumbasses.

Dave: portfolio will do exactly that. What does being off charger have to do with anything?Take your pictures, share them on gallery and they will upload while you travel back to the office. At the office they show up on your skydrive folder and you print them.

It's a shitty program if you can't force sync
7/15/2012 9:17:06 PM
7/15/2012 10:14:58 PM
Nope, Verizon and AT&T opted out.
7/15/2012 10:54:16 PM
htc gave everyone that bought one of their phones like 25 GB or something like that free on dropbox. i wonder if I'll ever fill it.
7/15/2012 11:04:26 PM
Well I'm posting from my new Galaxy S3. Other than the screen being slightly too big for easy one handed operation, I really like it. Still not quite as polished feeling as iOS but so far the advantages seem to outweigh that. The extra screen real estate is awesome for browsing and the LTE kicks ass. Since I'm on a businrss plan I get to keep my unlimited data as well.
7/16/2012 6:07:22 PM
The lack of 3G/4G selection on ICS is annoying. 4G is shit in my office (1-2 bars, if at all) and 3G is full signal... but no, we can't have that option anymore without going through a lot of fucking work to get the hidden device settings.[Edited on July 17, 2012 at 9:58 AM.
