Nevermind, it's your angle to the bridge.

I like the auditorium dark, so we closed off most of the windows and pulled the dark curtain closed. Though I'm sure by now that nice curtain could have been destroyed by others." |
Actually, the curtains were still there in pretty decent shape. Some of that place has been wrecked compared to how clean it looks in a couple of your shots, but overall it's not too bad. Some spots are pretty gross though. I can get in there anytime with permission from the owner and local law enforcement, so if anybody wants to go out there, we could possibly organize a meet-up. They are opening the buildings up to the public for an estate sale of whatever is left in there on the 25th.
Here's a couple more from my trip:

If you get the chance to check out some of these old schools then definitely take it. They are getting harder and harder to find. They put the buildings up for sale and of course no one buys them because they don't want to endure the cost of safely removing the buildings before using the property. So they do sit for a few years. But, eventually the city or state steps in due to it being an eyesore, dangerous, and a gathering place for petty crime.
This was one of my favorite auditoriums. Already in the process of demolition, if not already complete.

^ Very nice.
I've already got plans to go back to the school at least twice. I freaking love abandoned places. This one was easy for me because I had permission, I've just got to grow some balls to get into the places I want to see where I'm not necessarily allowed. 9/10/2010 10:38:11 PM |

Pretty much right except I braced it on a rock or a rail. D40 with the kit 18-55mm, can't get more generic than that. Well it was 19mm instead of 18mm.

it is amazing how all of that stuff including student work, EOG tests, supplies, etc... was just left there? How long has it been like that?

Here is my shitty shot of Looking Glass Falls as well taking with my D40 on a mini tripod with the kit lens. I didn't get to spend any damn time shooting it because the kids were trying to go run into the water and it was midday Saturday, so there was a fuck-ton of people. At best I was able to get a shot with only one guy in it.
Also, is anybody planning to do some airshow shooting this weekend at Oceana?? Looks like the weather is going to be beautiful. I'm going both days and just crashing at the parents house in Edenton. I love this show and can't wait! 9/14/2010 11:00:14 PM |

The 300s is a nice camera but from what I'm reading with the advances in color metering, ISO and video the D7000 will win out over the other DX offerings. At least for me in terms of features. 9/15/2010 11:37:45 AM |

The real court for this case would have gone to small claims since it's less than $5000. When they go into pre-trial, no matter if its civil or criminal court, they promote settlement with an ADR or alternative dispute resolution, to help people settle out of court and not waste tax payer's money and time. In this case, it's called an arbitration, or a 3rd party member who listens to the case and makes a decision, similar to a real judge. It's actually NC law to go through a licensed mediator first before trial.
This is usually a good thing since both parties have to agree on the arbitrator or mediator before going to "court". This tends to be a cheaper solution and gets faster remedies. Btw, whatever the arbitrator rules is legally binding for both sides. Although this doesn't mean that it's a final verdict as the party can still have the option of going into real court, but usually they tend to agree with the arbitrator and it just wastes a lot of time to where you will probably lose.
Arbitrators tend to have a little more lea way with giving out remedies that just doesn't include a monetary value, but anything that's performance based or promise based remedies, they legally can't enforce them. You would still have to go to the real courts to follow up and use the civil courts to legally get the wheels of justice to enforce them using police or law. Normal civil courts tend to just give monetary remedies.
Also, TV show judges/arbitrators tend to offer their arbitration services for free to get people on the show. That is why people tend agree on getting called out on national tv.
I only know this because I'm taking a law class. I lucked out and actually got a very interesting lawyer as the teacher that isn't monotoned and knows jokes!9/22/2010 8:47:17 AM |

So I'm trying to take some pictures in a large indoor football field. I need a relatively high shutter speed (trying to shoot for 1/150 or so) and I am having problems with the light. Knowing that my lenses are a 4-5.6 18-55, and a 5-5.6 55-200 (shooting with a D3000), what is the best way to allow faster shutter speeds? I do not like using the flash because it is such a big space it lights my subjects well, but makes the background very dark.
I see my options as using the exposure compensation, or flash compensation.
What would be the best choice to lighten up a picture? 9/22/2010 2:14:14 PM |
OmarBadu zidik 25071 Posts user info edit post |
unless you need to capture objects in motion (perhaps you do and that's why you want 1/150) - use a tripod or monopod
otherwise you can't really create light from some mysterious source - this is why fast lenses are made...]] 9/22/2010 2:40:03 PM |

Ignorance on both sides from that Judge Joe Brown episode. Sounds like the "photographer" had a consumer grade Canon with the kit lens. Unless they stole some other photographer's work the bride should have known what she could expect by looking at the photographer's website/portfolio though. I don't know what she paid, but I'm guessing it was dirt cheap compared to all the other photographers in her area. I wonder why, lol. Sad.

Um, bigun, try upping the ISO. Not too much though or you'll get noise, also lower your fstop, it'll open the aperture more letting more light in. Keep the shutter the same. 9/22/2010 10:24:46 PM |

I have and want to get more involved with video now that I bought the premium production cs5 and finally have some decent video editing. Need to get some video and audio equipment to match with the 5d. I would have loved to sell it and grab the 60D, but it having SD cards kills it for me. I just wished they added 720p 24,25,30 and 60fps capture to the 5d.
