After meditating on it for a while, I've come to the conclusion that it is not companionship that I want. In reality, it is attention or validation or something along those lines. I don't actually care if I ever hook up with someone, what I really want is the flattery of knowing that she's attracted to me enough to be open to the idea. I wouldn't necessarily follow through if some acquaintances set me up on a blind date, but I'd be content knowing that they gave enough of a damn to do something like that. It is not the relationship that I want, it is the knowledge that I could have it if I really wanted it.

I am now certain that I will die alone. If I can't bring myself to care enough to keep a relationship going, then perhaps I deserve that fate. I completely understand that I have the power to change this, that it doesn't have to be that way. But to be honest, I am fine with the way things are. Being single is all I know how to do. I have absolutely no practice with starting and maintaining a relationship. And frankly, I'm too stuck in my ways to start learning. Maybe my life could be better, but the status quo isn't really all that bad.

I've made my decision. I'm fine with this. I can now let it go.

haha - my coworker actually did that once, he thought he threw away a napkin that wasn't completely used, so he went into the trash grabbed what he thought was my napkin, but oh no, it was my used tissue.
