^^^^ also, Skype becomes a service that we have to pay for in 2011 anyway, it would be great if we could get a free option. Something like qik on the Android phones.

I've been thinking about getting a wrap from http://awrapforthat.com/ but I can't really seem to find any information at all about how sturdy/reusable/useful they are. And the website is basically no help at all.

[Edited on July 7, 2010 at 10:42 PM. Reason : I just ordered 2 wraps from http://www.icolorwrap.com/. Even if they suck they're only 2/$7.77]

has anybody with a non-4 iphone, 3gs specifically, had problems with the ipod app after the os update? my brother's crashes every time he opens it. we've done a hard reset, tried a couple of sync tricks i found in an apple forum, but nothing's worked. i think he's due for a trip to the apple store unfortunately...

i've told him to...but i also told him that on the other hand, if he wipes it clean then it happens again, he'll have to wait a few days before going to apple. when i had battery problems, i wiped mine twice before going and they said they couldn't do anything b/c the error log or whatever had been erased too. so they sent me back home to wait a few days. he should probably at least try it once i guess.

we live an hour from raleigh. if we lived in raleigh, it wouldn't be such a big deal to go up there.

So what are some good iphone 4 games/apps you guys have played around with? Gun Range is I think the really only impressive one that uses the gyroscope. Unless more have come out.

has anyone tried putting their iphone4 sim into an ipad 3g yet?

Just wondering if it works, or what it takes to make it work.

Fring got updated to work with Video Chat today. Supposedly. I downloaded it and my dad downloaded it but I couldn't figure out how to make a video call with him. But I think he did something wrong when he was importing his google chat settings or something. I also had a friend try to do a video chat request with me over google chat (she was on a macbook) and she said the video icon was xed out.

So I guess that bodes well for non-shitty software with video capabilities to be approved for the iPhone. I've never been a big fan of Fring in the first place. Still waiting for Skype to update their app. I'm sure they'll do it right.

yeah my dad said he tried to register with his gmail username and it said already exists (which couldn't possibly be the case) and he tried it again and it worked.

Something tells me the servers might be getting slammed.

People on engadget are saying this has allowed them to video chat with an iPhone4 and EVO.

The weird thing is, I KNOW I've used Fring in the past but I guess before you didn't have to create an account or something because I didn't have an account on record with them so I had to create a new one. Which like, whatever. But I didn't have any trouble. Course that was 4 hours ago. I guess their popularity had risen a lot since then.

I don't think it even has time to hit the server before it shoots me down.

Are we to assume this is why skype is the only app that hasn't been updated to support or say iOS 4.0 tested?

I'm not sure I follow what you mean by "only app".

Skype has a version of their app that is 4.0 compatible in some form, and the reason I know this is because it was shown off back in April when Apple announced 4.0 (the OS, not the phone). The only reason I can think of that they haven't released it by now is because they don't want to JUST release an update that has voice capability. So now the question becomes, is it just taking THAT long to get the video stuff working, or is Apple purposely holding off on allowing the Video chat features to be allowed. The update of Fring today suggests the former.

I just mean that I've been flooded with updates in the app store since 4.0 was released and haven't seen one from Skype.

the 3G sucks with iOS 4; i've tried a full restore as a new phone and hard reset without much improvement. you're really better off downgrading unless you absolutely have to have a v4 feature.

ironically, Steve himself said they didn't allow the regular wallpaper because it "didn't meet performance standards", when the rest of the 3G phone performs horribly with iOS 4.

i never had any problems multi tasking with a 3g and having a real wallpaper via jailbreaking. it wasn't super fast or anything, but wasn't terribly slow either

I grant that I didn't use it very long, but I didn't feel that iOS 4.0 was particularly slow on the the 3GS. I certainly liked that photos seemed (to my perception) to take faster.

That said, everyone I know who had upgraded to iOS 4 on the 3GS eventually downgraded. So, hmm.

^^^ Agreed. All the things I've added via jailbreak haven't slowed down the 3GS -- why is that? Hmmmmm.. Apple, what's up?

still no way to jailbreak a 3gs on ios4 that used spirit to jailbreak previously? i still haven't been able to upgrade bc I don't want to lose my jailbreak

also, what are good alternatives to itunes that will allow me to manage videos/music from multiple computers? this using one computer at work and a different one at home thing is making it a bitch to deal with itunes.. having to transfer shit over to my other computer just to sync it w my phone is stupid.

[Edited on July 9, 2010 at 11:37 AM. Reason : and by "sync" i mean add to iphone library, don't care about going the other way]

^i've used sharepod in the past and really liked it. I don't know about the compatibility with the latest OS, but it worked with iPhones previously. It's freeware and you can run it from the device w/o having to install on the computer, meaning you can use it with all of your computers easily.

sharepod doesnt seem to be working for me on a 3gs with 4.0 OS. The program runs and it lets me copy music over, then I eject the iphone. Click on the iPod icon and the music isnt there.

I could use a little help here...

I want to jailbreak my 3G phone that's currently running OS 3.1.3. I downloaded pwnagetool 3.1.5 which supposedly supports OS 3.1.3. I also downloaded the 3G version of the 3.1.3 IPSW, however pwnagetool is always telling me I'm using an incorrect firmware bundle.

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong... I tried it with 3.1.2 as well, and it's giving me the same error. I'm about to throw this laptop and phone off the balcony...

Any ideas? i think im getting really confused between all the different utilities; pwnagetool, spirit, etc. im a total n00b

Just download spirit. Should be a one click and done solution for all 3.1.3 devices.

Gmail setup through Sync (vs IMAP):

-When I try to "continue search on server" (All Mail folder) , I always get an error saying it can't connect.

Am I alone? Can anyone get this to work?

So, I may post this in classifieds, but thought I could get some feedback here first.

I'm looking to get rid of my AT&T plan, which has 2 lines, both with the Unlimited Data. The AT&T reps have told me that if I transfer it, whoever gets it would retain the unlimited data. Is this something I could make some $ on?

I doubt it, at least not if you list it here. AT&T could decide to pull the unlimited plans tomorrow if they were so inclined.

^Ty. I was thinking Craigslist. As far as AT&T changing the plan, that's true. But as long as they meet me at the store to transfer it over, they're eligible to receive it for the remainder of their contract. Otherwise, AT&T is making a "materially adverse change" which would enable them to get out of the contract with no ETF.

I forgot to mention that they'd also be eligible for new customer pricing despite getting to keep the plan. That means iPhone 4 for $199 with unlimited data.

The only minus is they can't get my rollover minutes, of which I have over 2,000.

for all the hype i heard about the battery life, mine seems to be pretty weak. left the house last night with the phone at 100%, came home at 2:30 and it was down to 56%. i don't know if this is normal or if i have a faulty battery, but my old iPhone (1st gen) lasted longer than that

Just got my 3gs replaced under warranty and it came with 3.1.3. Is there anyway for me to jailbreak and still do a restore from my previous iOS4 jailbreak?

In a few weeks I'll probably upgrade to a 4g and give this one to my sister so it may not even be worth the trouble.
