those don't seem to be good indicators
that said, not sure if VT has offered his sister a track scholarship, and that's long been cited as a factor in his recruitment. he was also on a visit to Wake during that 6-3 Virginia Tech OT loss, so that, along with questions about Beamer's future, seems like it could be in our favor12/15/2014 10:24:50 AM |

Pretty sure he wants to go to school with his sister and only NC State and Wake have offered her a track scholarship.
Would definitely be a surprise if he picked VT. Think the kid realizes most people think they know where he is going and he just wants to add a little suspense to it. It was NC State or Duke for a while, then it was NC State or Wake for a while, now it's NC State or VT?
If he picks VT over us, this is going to be another Amile Jefferson type recruiting letdown. 12/15/2014 12:31:23 PM |

It seems like State has been in his top 2 or 3 the entire time. I think he tweeted out a list of 10 schools that he's choosing from...but from everything I've ready, it's down to State/VT/Wake.

I read that more schools have offered her a track scholarship than has really been reported/made public on another site. Seems plausible
Also, Hines apparently grew up a State fan. So he's the type of recruit we should get.

Nothing all that earth-shattering in the article.
Roseboro is recruiting hard for us this week at the Shrine Bowl practices. Is really working on Hines, Hughes, and Frasier for us.
That's about it from the article. Also mentions that the other NC State commits at the Shrine Bowl are actively helping as well. 12/16/2014 12:21:29 PM |

^^ 1)Shad announced that? 2) My guess is no...and if we did get them both, I wonder if one would redshirt? We got Shad, Dayes, Samuels (not necessarily a pure RB, but still) at RB already. 12/16/2014 1:30:03 PM |

^, ^^ yeah, Canada will just give Shad's carries to someone else anyway 12/16/2014 1:30:57 PM |

Doeren's had a lot of praise for Shad the last few weeks...after Wake and UNC and in today's press conference too. Hopefully he and the staff are really ready to give Shad the lions share of carries next year. Dayes is really good catching passes out of the backfield and can be a play maker, so I don't mind seeing Dayes getting a lot of snaps either. But Creecy's usage early in the year was really head scratching 12/16/2014 1:37:04 PM |
slckwill577 All American 757 Posts user info edit post |
The way I see it, Gallaspy replaces Creecy. Hines will be used as a slot/KR/gadget guy. Samuels will be primarily playing FB.
What will happen to Jaylen Samuels' touches? He got a lot of them from the jet sweep action, and I would assume those would go to Hines next year.
If Frasier commits, then he and Gallaspy would be fighting for that 3rd spot...unless we could be creative and push Dayes somewhere else? 12/16/2014 1:41:53 PM |
jbrick83 All American 23447 Posts user info edit post |
I imagine Dayes will catch more and run less next year. Hines will be similar to Dayes, but also get a ton of work returning kicks. I think either Frasier or Gallaspy will redshirt just because we don't need all of them right now. The one that doesn't will split time with Jaylen doing the same shit that Jaylen did this year. We'll see more of Samuels just because we know what he can do and he'll be more comfortable in the every day offense (blocking and picking up blitzes). And he won't be a surprise anymore, so might as well trot him out there more.
Nichols will need to either move to DB, be happy sitting on the bench, or transfer. 12/16/2014 1:48:00 PM |

^^ why would samuels' touches go to someone else? is samuels transferring? 12/16/2014 2:00:18 PM |
slckwill577 All American 757 Posts user info edit post |
^because we would bringing in Hines to be an APB/slot that would do jet sweeps, which is how Samuels got most of his touches this year. IMO it looks like Samuels could be starting FB, but not sure how many touches that means for him. 12/16/2014 2:03:17 PM |

As good as Hines and Fraiser are supposed to be, I'm not sure they, as true freshmen, are gonna take a ton of touches away from anybody. 12/16/2014 2:14:04 PM |

if we were to get Hines and Frasier also, this could a more dangerous stable of backs than that one time Baker and Brown were both actually healthy at the same time. could be that way even without them depending on how dayes, samuels, and gallaspy shape up, but would be nice to be loaded at the position. 12/16/2014 4:48:09 PM |

^^ That's kind of pushing it.
Plus the coaching staff won't ever play our best back, so it won't matter. 12/17/2014 9:09:16 PM |
dmspack oh we back 25541 Posts user info edit post |
Shad had by far the most carries on this years team...147. Next highest was Brissett with 110...then Dayes with 91. I thought we, especially down the stretch, handled the RBs well. Dayes is proven to be a reliable weapon out of the backfield. Creecy (52 carries) was just kinda "meh"...and his usage towards the end of the season indicated that, I think. After the Clemson game, Creecy only had >5 carries 1 time the rest of the year...and that was against UNC (8 carries) when the game was well out of reach. I understand wanting to get Shad the ball more. But he got fewer than 10 carries only 3 times all year...vs Presbyterian (blow out), vs Clemson (blow out), and vs Boston College (clearly a mistake in play calling or something there).
Unless you're saying Samuels is our best back...then I dunno. He's talented. Clearly not an every down back, but does deserve more touches. But he's not our best back

^^ I don't know how that would be pushing it. This year, our backs averaged ~5.7 yards/carry (slightly more if you don't count Creecy). In 2005 and 2006 (both Baker/Brown years), we averaged ~4.8 yards/carry on fewer rushes than we had this year. Shad is supposedly coming back, so adding Gallaspy plus the possibility of Hines and/or Frasier shouldn't make us regress. 12/17/2014 9:41:25 PM |

just take Hines out of the RB discussion altogether. Hes not going to play runningback for us. He may get 3-4 carries per game, but when we're gonna be rushing it 40 times a game, thats a tiny sample. 12/17/2014 10:50:10 PM |

Finding out how to most effectively use Hines is going to be interesting. Think we sold him on using him like Dayes this year, but think he might be moved around a lot. Could see him really doing damage out of the slot. 12/18/2014 11:10:58 AM |
