so no idea about the contract stipulations, but could it be possible that the new BOT thought, "well, if we get rid of him now, rather then waiting a year and getting rid of him, we make a better case for not paying him the 3-4M on his contract."

I mean, if I'm Davis, and they wait till next year to fire me, i make the case for "you kept me a year + after the scandal broke, you dont have just cause for firing me now- pay up!"

I've said several times that from an NC State perspective firing Butch Davis is not a good move. But if it's going to happen (and it should have happened a year ago) this is the way for it to go down. UNC looks like a bunch of assholes. What coach is going to go there with pending sanctions while working under a BOT that pulls a bitch move like this. The program is gonna be dead for years.

Like others have mentioned I'm looking at this from a recruitment standpoint.

Not only are we the only in-state ranked school but we are also the only one that will be returning a coach with experience leading to bowl games and winning seasons. It seems to me like this will really help recruiting (specifically in-state) for the 2012 season.

Plus, let's be honest... the interim is going to have 8 days to prepare for practice. That's awesome.
