Rode 33 miles in Apex. For those of you who ride in that area, riding up Lystra is quite a task. I was totally spent at the top of the hill.

50 miles on Saturday, then my riding partner had a bad migraine attack and was swerving all over the road. I called the ride off and since we were by Mason Rd. and Rt. 501, we had to get a ride from a friend back to town .
Going to do a 30 mile quick loop if the rain isn't too bad tonight.
I got roped into training for a century ride coming up in August. I'm going to build up a better fitting frame, plus need to do 70-80 mile rides on the weekend. 6/2/2010 4:00:21 PM |

Cars that turn without right of way are awesome. During my daily commute to work one day in April I ended up colliding with the passenger side of a pickup at a little over 21mph. No serious physical injuries, only a few scrapes and a large dent in my right leg left by the handlebars as I mashed into them. Sadly, the bicycle sustained the majority of the damage as my front wheel and downtube were badly bent. Fun shit.

Nope, it occurred in a residential neighborhood around 8:30a.m. on a sunny day. The driver was in the opposing lane and then made a left turn into a driveway without using his turn signal or so much as slowing down to verify no traffic was in the other lane. I was in the middle of the right lane going the speed limit; nothing in the street could have obstructed the driver's view as far as I could tell. I might have been able to avoid his truck if there wasn't another vehicle behind him as well as myself, but who knows.6/3/2010 12:47:39 PM |
Kurtis636 All American 14984 Posts user info edit post |
Yes, clearly it was one of those two issues, and not the fault of the person making a turn across opposing traffic.
Look, I dislike a lot of cyclists, I flicked one off yesterday for not obeying traffic laws. If you aren't willing to follow the rules of the road you don't deserve to be on it. Personally, I try to stay off of any road with a speed limit over 35 mph, and really try to confine myself to residential areas when possible. Cycling in a 45 mph zone will back up traffic and could very well lead to an accident behind or beside you. Sure, I have the right to be there, but that doesn't make it a good idea. It's pretty much the same as when somebody cruises along in the left lane of the highway at 55 mph. I'm well aware that I'm more vulnerable than cars, so are motorcyclists, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be on the road. The only people who should stay off the road are ones that don't stop, don't signal, pass on a double yellow, etc. it doesn't matter if you do it in a car or on a bike.
I love bike lanes, and I with there were more of them. Unfortunately there aren't so for the time being I have to be extra careful because most motorists have no business behind the wheel. 6/3/2010 1:09:16 PM |

I want to get a sticker and put it on some cars that says "Out of my way! I'm late for my yoga lesson" or "Hurry up, I'm trying to get to my zen" to highlight the fact that many people in cars seem to speed unnecessarily, or have made themselves habitually late for everything instead of leaving for their event sooner.
I almost got ran over a few years ago by a woman in a Prius driving fast and trying to make a lefthand turn across my lane, and I saw her walk into a yoga studio shortly after as I was going to the nearby UPS store with a package. 6/3/2010 6:14:16 PM |

any cyclist that rides on a road and not exclusively on a trainer, knows the danger of the road
its fucking scary when an asshole pulling a boat doesn't even pull to the center of the road when there is no oncoming traffic and you nearly get smacked in the face with the end of the boat. texas can be especially scary because people drive massive trucks and can be very aggressive, for absolutely no reason. also horns are VERY loud when you're not inside a car jerkfaces
i make a very conscious effort to ride with large groups (20 people) and we ride on country roads with minimal traffic.
anyone who thinks cyclists dont know the dangers of the road, is an absolute moron 6/3/2010 7:27:15 PM |

my commute takes me through downtown Boston rushhour traffic and then windy tight country roads. it covers a pretty broad spectrum of dangarrrrrrrr. but then again Boston is fairly cyclist aware i guess. bike lanes are popping up all over the city 6/3/2010 10:19:23 PM |

I would appreciate it if you kept an eye out for my husband's cyclocross bike that was stolen. 52cm Scattante XRL cross, it was a custom build with alex rims and mostly dura ace components. Black with red lettering on the frame. Red bottle cages and black bar tape. Very unique and easy to ID. We are almost certain a high school kid stole it thanks to the dumbass roommate. 6/4/2010 7:43:37 AM |

~ 25 miles today- did anyone else come back feeling like they pedaled through a swamp? My riding buddy and were done by 10:30. Ick.
And also, if you know of a decent aluminum or carbon frame that's got a 50 cm seat tube and a 50-52 cm top tube, let me know. My Giant is not going to work on a century- the top tube is too long, even with a short stem. I've been hunting Ebay so far this week, but no such luck. 6/6/2010 1:18:41 PM |

^ I set out this morning for just a quick 10 miles. . . 30 miles later I got back with my legs in revolt. Haha. I agree though, I was home about the same time you were and had a bit of a headwind going but coming back it started to heat up. Tomorrow morning I just need to leave at first light or hope that it rains today to cool things off some. This is actually one of the few reasons I would hate to leave from Burlington. You can ride some of these country roads for days with gorgeous scenery and little trouble from cars 6/6/2010 1:33:50 PM |

"cooler" sleeves that can be had from a handful of different companies... 2XU, Craft, DeSoto. They are $Texas, though, and it sounds like his problem could be solved with a nice bottle of sunscreen. Long sleeves just sound miserable to me in 90+ degree heat with as humid as it is. 6/10/2010 3:39:34 PM |
