Otah is the one we need to sign ASAP, as he's penciled in as the starting RT. He'll need all the time he can get to adjust to the speed of NFL DE's, and also to develop chemistry with the other OL.

Stewart on the other hand isn't as vital. While I'm as anxious to see him as anyone, we've got a quality back in DeAngelo and a wildcard in Toefield already good-to-go. Plus, I'm thinking Stewart still isn't quite 100 percent (this is hearsay, mind you).

good call....I can see him having a vital role this year if someone gets hurt. its good we actually have RB depth this year.

Otah signed, thank god

hopefully Stewart won't miss much camp but a holdout would have really hurt Otah's chances of starting at RT.

I saw they moved Thomas Davis from Strongside LB to Weakside LB. Good move, but seriously, why the hell did it take this long?

I've heard Davis is already making plays like a madman at WLB, and that he's laid some nasty hits on Jonathon Stewart already.

I've always wondered that too, maybe because he played SS in college and staying on that side of the field made the transition to LB easier.

So Beason and Davis are locks to start

Is Johnson from Cincinatti the front runner for the third spot, or someone incumbent that I'm forgetting ?

Yeah I would say Johnson is strictly a WILL. So Davis moving over there would put him 2nd on the depth chart with Diggs and prolly Connor playing the SAM.

Trying playing defense with your name being Sam, and the coach constantly using Sam as the LB name...that first couple weeks was a fucking headache on defense, adjusting the "Sam LB" v. Me (Sam) at DL/DE.

FWIW

http://blogs.charlotte.com/panthers/2008/07/gross-peppers-s.html

Quote :
"Gross: Peppers set for best-ever year

Panthers left tackle Jordan Gross has gotten a first-hand look at defensive end Julius Peppers in training camp, blocking him directly almost all the time they're both in the lineup.

Gross has been so impressed that, just a few minutes ago, he predicted a sensational season for Peppers, who is trying to bounce back from a disappointing 2 1/2-sack performance last year.

"I'll say this with 100 percent confidence: I think he's going to have his best year ever," Gross told reporters of Peppers. "He's better than I've ever seen him. Barring anything unknown, there's no reason he won't go out and just set records. ... He looks real, real good."

Gross said Peppers looks bigger, stronger and faster than ever before, which is a profound statement given the fact that Peppers is universally considered one of the most talented athletes in the NFL.

Gross was asked what's different about Peppers this year.

"I know he really enjoys being on the defensive right side," Gross said of Peppers' offseason switch from left end to right. "I think it's a bit of a new challenge for him.

"I know he's been training all offseason. I've talked to him as much as he'll talk, and he said he just feels stronger, faster, bigger than ever. It's definitely true just in these few days I've been going against him. He's been making me earn everything I've been getting."

In a one-on-one drill during Monday morning's practice, Peppers drove Gross backward with a bull rush. On Sunday, Peppers used a lightning-quick spin move to blow past backup left tackle Frank Omiyale.

Gross has blocked Peppers in previous camps and is able to continue to do so now because they both switched positions. Jordan moved from right to left tackle.

"It's great for me switching back to left again to go against him because there's really not going to be anybody better than him this year," said Gross. "If he keeps on the same pace he's on now, he's just going to kill people."

-- Charles Chandler"

It's funny that when reporters do a piece on peppers, they don't actually talk with him. Can't say I blame them though.

Hopefully Peppers is over whatever the hell was wrong with him last year. I swear I thought he was getting cancer, ala Brian's Song

hopefully Gross' public claim that Pep will have his best season ever won't put Peppers in some nervous anti-social funk like J-Rich's "Julius...its time for you to step up Julius" speech before last season

Ian Scott goes down:

http://community.heraldonline.com/wednesday_thin_and_getting_thinner

Not earth shattering news but this once again raises some concerns about the DL. seems like we're set at nearly every other position except for DE and DT. Hopefully some good ones will get cut here in a few weeks and we pick them up. If not...

Fuck Lucas, we gave him bank and he hasn't done enough to justify it. I'd feel better with Richard Marshall in his spot for what he brings.

Lucas had a rough go last year, but the first year we brought him in, he was money. He should have been an All-Pro that year, and was at the very least the MVP of the defense that year.

I don't know if that justifies his salary or not, but when he's healthy, the guy is as good as they get.

" Lucas walked to a tent, holding his head while accompanied by a trainer. Smith was then escorted there by receiver Muhsin Muhammad to talk to Lucas.

"Steve was probably a little remorseful for what happened," Muhammad said. "He was trying to apologize, so I was walking with him just to be there."

After being treated for several minutes, Lucas walked to a nearby cart and was taken to the locker room.

Smith spent several minutes talking to kicker John Kasay on an adjacent field before he was escorted to the locker room by Hurney as practice continued. "

lol maybe a LITTLE remorseful

and i bet Kasay read him scripture

the other day at training camp Adam Seward gave me and my buddies some gatorade....and it was disgusting. it was like, super sodium gatorade and it tasted like straight up salty sweat.

so we asked Smitty what it was and he was like

"its sodium gatorade. helps you recover what you sweat out...sweat is something that happens when you work out, yall dont know anything about that"

" There has been some bad blood between Smith and Lucas in the past, although they've never come to blows.

A few years ago at training camp, not long after the cornerback signed to a six-year, $36 million contract to come to Carolina, Smith was heard talking trash to Lucas on the field. After he beat Lucas for a touchdown, Smith turned and said, "I'm earning my money; you better start earning yours."

A few minutes later, Smith beat Lucas for another score and said, "That's two, bitch.""

I'm glad Jake has been in camp. It would be shitty if he was holding out or doing some other selfish shit.

anyway other shit going on in camp, not just a little skirmish

Hackett with a nice catch

Otah is big as fuck...and when asked what reality TV show he would most like to appear on...his answer was Wheel of Fortune

Smitty and the Fox part 2

It sure is nice to not have a QB controversy

Key quotes:

"According to sources, Lucas has sustained at least one fracture to his facial bones. The Panthers have not formally confirmed that fact, however. It's not clear at this time how much time Lucas will miss."

"Seeing as this is Smith's second offense in this manner, it's likely he'll be suspended for multiple games; Four is the maximum he can be suspended under the collective bargaining agreement due to conduct detrimental to the team. This would be one of those detriments."

It's not like they had a chance against the Chargers anyway. Now the over/under on Jake Delhomme picks in week 1 has gone from 2 to 3.

They need Smitty if they want to beat Chicago or Minnesota, however.
