VT hasn't had an impressive game yet and they were being dominated by UNC until Yates went down. I hate them too but take the blinders off.

The better conversation now would be, where will NC State gets its players? The core of the team now is from Florida and we all know they won't be landing anymore Florida recruits with the return of Chuck Amato, and the fact that almost every program in the state is on the rise. So you obviously look for them to come from NC but now with the rise of UNC and Wake and stiff competition coming from ECU and Duke getting a good core of talent from North Carolina is looking less and less plausible. It will be interesting to see what Tom Obrien can do with what seems to be an insurmountable hole that the program is in and what type of creative recruiting schemes he can come up with.

Wishbone is kind of gimmicky.

And UNC will be favored in every single ACC game left I'm pretty sure. They are in a great position. I don't know if they'll win them all but they will be favored.

V it's improved this year. no longer the worst bcs conf. the big east is terrible in '08...

err Georgia Tech?

also, Yates going out didn't cause a complete meltdown by UNC's defense. Despite being wrong you continue to talk talk talk talk talk. UCONN is not a good football team. They're QB is out and maybe with him they are competitive for most of this game, but their defense looks fucking terrible.

UNC will be a force to be reckoned with, i'm not being biased... but they're a throw, if an inch lower, from being 0-2

I forgot to mention the fact that Clemson and USC are starting evermore dominate the Charlotte area in recruiting and NCState would still probably be stiffly competed with by Tenn for 2nd rate players out west. NC is probably the biggest clusterfuck outside of Florida which happens to have an insane concentration of talent to offset its clusterfuck. Most states have no more than 2 BCS programs.

They barely beat GT. They also got beat by ECU. UNC gave up 20 points in that game. How is the considered a defensive meltdown? I don't think UNC scored after yates went out. Those qbs were not prepared to play that game. I was the first to say UCONN's qb is the main part of their team and acknowledged the fact that they were vulnerable but the fact that UNC has DOMINATED them is a signature of a good team. Lets not forget UNC has been playing most of the season with the same injury to their leader. Good teams take advantage of vulnerable teams and smash them. I dislike UNC just as much as anyone but they continue to impress the nation on ESPN. @ Miami and Rutgers were not walks int he park either. They have been impressive every game with the exception of a quarter in which they had just lost their qb to injury.

[Edited on October 4, 2008 at 10:32 PM. Reason : this is without yates]

seems like every year they have one game that they read their own press clippings during the season, when your team is that loaded with talent, they're bound to get cocky, especially after thumping Ohio State. Pac-10 seems pretty weak so I doubt it happens again.

hahahaha, this years Maryland team is bizarre to me, they loose to Middle Tennessee State(who are terrible even for a sun belt team or whatever shitty conference they are in) and I think they are garbage, then they blow out a supposedly good Cal team and beat Clemson and I start to think the Middle Tennessee game was a fluke and they are actually pretty good, but then they go and get shut out by an incredibly bad UVA team...definitely a jekyll and hyde team

Its guys like you that are just in denial. UNC made the perfect hire and the long term effects are already showing. The day you show me a team in the ACC that has a more fluid offense even with their star qb injured you can suspend me.

And I don't understand how anybody could disagree with the basic principles of my recruiting "analysis". A. we're not going to compete at all in Florida anymore and B. We will lose the battle to UNC and Wake and compete with Duke and ECU for instate recruits. I thought that was just common knowledge at this point.

god you're fucking dumb, how are we losing the recruiting battle to Wake and UNC?? Our class last year was ranked in the top 25 and UNC's wasn't and neither was Wake's (as far as the rankings go Wake hasnt had a top 25 class recently), so far this year UNC is ahead but there is plenty of time left...you are just talking out of your ass.

What I mean is everything else constant, if a guys choice comes down to UNC or state or Wake or State. I know where they are gonna be going most of the time. I'm not talking about overall classes I'm talking about difference makers. Brandon Tates and even josh Adamses. Unless we really turn it around quickly our championship contender, coach prestige and television exposure pitches are going to sink.

Bottom line is UNC is a sleeping giant.

So TJ Graham doesn't count as a difference maker?? I guess kickoff returns of 60 and 100+ yards don't really count right? Also Tate wasn't even recruited by Davis, he was a leftover from the Bunting era so get your facts straight.

Quote :
"Bottom line is UNC is a sleeping giant."

maybe so, but the reality of the situation is that Butch Davis will only be there long enough for a big time coaching job to open up and then he's gone, there's no way UNC can pay him more than Roy and that's going to keep them from retaining big time coaches (see Mack Brown in the late 90s)

On signing day, State was ranked #29 according to Scout and UNC #30. After accounting for recruits who didn't qualify academically, UNC's class from last year is #24 and State is no longer in the top 30. Also, UNC is dominating in-state recruiting for '09 and will probably sign 6 to 8 of the Top 11 in NC. Moss, Dixon, and McAdoo are already verbals and we're looking good with Boyd, Bond, Hunter, Bell, and Shankle.

The reality of the situation for people who dont sit at home in front of a computer screen smoking a bowl all day is that, like JCTarheel already said, he turned down his alma mater last year.

In regard to pay, you do realize UNCs comptroller reports list the schools budget somewhere over 2 BILLION dollars right? Im sure they can afford to retain whatever caliber coach they choose to pursue. The issue is getting their targeted coach interested, and justifying said income to the Board of Trustees.

As soon as Davis was hired season tickets sold out. Thats a hell of a turn around in 1 year. Now UNC has a shot at being a one loss team and you dont think theyll give Davis more money to retain him? He is happy, he wants his kids to be in an academically challenging environment, and he pretty much has the authority just short of God in regard to anything involving the football program and the stadium.

UNC is a place where Davis could have a building named after him if he stays long enough and is successful enough. He is already an integral part of the negotiations to close in the stadiums end zone which can add another 20,000 seats IIRC, which would make it a 100k person stadium (again, IIRC).

To people who arent ignorant, UNC is miles beyond NCSU right now. Perhaps if you accept the situation for what it is you might grow and mature a bit. NCSU is on the road to building a better program but rebuilding takes time. The situation was flipped not too long ago where UNC was in Amatos shadow with the flare and electricity he brought to the football program. In short, you really need to learn to suck it up and just admit defeat, especially when it is obvious.

^^^ it's way to early to talk about UNC being miles ahead of NC State in football. Considering the injuries we've suffered as well as our differences in strength of schedule... you sir are reaching. bottom line, yes UNC is a better team with the way the depth charts are currently.

Talk about what the recruiting classes are ranked all you want, TOB and Butch Davis are pretty much dead even when it comes to recruiting in this state, and for the most part so far, period. It would suck to lose Shankle and Bond to you guys. Especially since it's not looking good for Nixon.

Yates will be back for the NC State game, as will Nate Irving. We'll see who is miles ahead of who then.

Yea, whoever wins the game against each other obviously has the better program!!!eleven1!

nigga please

UNC has much more momentum, better recruiting classes, and a hell of a lot of athletes who can play a multitude of positions. UNC lost 6 of 8 games last year by a touchdown or less with a squad of about 50 who had NEVER taken a collegiate snap, of which 40 or so were FRESHMEN.

Quote :
"it's way to early to talk about UNC being miles ahead of NC State in football."

Check your record this season, wait 1 hour... just to let that sink in, and then you can reply, hopefully more intelligently.

Also check previous comments on the reason NCSU is doing so bad is because the loss of 1 or 2 key players? Are you kidding me? UNC lost Yates and brought in the previous 3rd string QB, backup to the king of interceptions and couldnt hack it at Nebraska Joe Daily, and pretty much hasnt skipped a beat yet. Hell, if Paulus wouldnt have been put in against VT then UNC just might be undefeated this year, oh and can I mention they are doing so with nearly 40 SOPHOMORES! Now again, try to provide some sort of insight before you post this random drivel.

At this point UNC is miles beyond NCSU. UNC isnt making excuses for their record. NCSU fans seem to be though, and for the one or two missing players that would supposedly better the entire TEAM?

Put down the pipe.

lol at the UNC fags thinking they're "miles ahead" of anyone. You guys have only beaten one team that has a winning record at this point (Connecticut). Which, incidentally, has only played one team with a non-losing record (Louisville at .500) until they played you fags last night.

^^ I love how you make an excuse for losing to VT and then attack our fans for making excuses. Sounds like you need to drop the pipe.

lol whatever makes you feel better about not winning the coastal in quite possibly the year you'll be most likely to win it in the next decade.

Generally if the program is "miles" ahead of the other... they win the game. But moral victories are something to thrive on too I guess.

Yes, we all know he turned down Arkansas last year, and anyone who is not mentally challenged realized that he didn't bolt because Arkansas is a disaster of a program right now with a fanbase so rabid that they probably won't give a coach enough time to rebuild sufficiently before axing him. You obviously don't understand that there is absolutely no way Baddour can pay Davis (a second year coach who hasn't won a conference title much less a division title) more than a basketball coach with multiple conference titles and a national championship. It has nothing to do with their ability to afford paying him a huge salary. You admit that they would have to justify the income to the Board of Trustees, and that obviously would not happen if Baddour was trying to pay Davis more than Roy. Basketball is king at UNC and always will be, no matter how good the product on the field is. Also, you can all stop with all the Carolina cocksucking...they blew out two very mediocre teams from the worst BCS conference, and will promptly get exposed by Notre Dame next week.

I didnt make an excuse for UNC. They lost, period. I suggested the outcome could have been different if they wouldnt have put a freshman who has never played on this level in a high pressure game like the VT game was. Thats not an excuse, thats a suggestion. You should learn the difference instead of cow tipping on friday nights.

NCSU could have won against BC, but I dont know if a coaches challenge was available when they scored that BS TD late in the game. That was questionable.

Then I suppose by your own reasoning you would be mentally challenged because Davis would be the perfect coach for Arkansas. He has a history of rebuilding programs, thats what his reputation is built off of. Maybe next time you can come play with the big boys, right now I dont feel like slapping a child around.

Williams' package is worth an average of $2.6 million each year plus incentives based on the Tar Heels' performance on the court and in the classroom.

Davis' annual salary is about $2.1 million.

Please shut up you fucking moron. The salaries are pretty damn close as it is.

UNC will pay whatever they want to have the national spotlight in any sport they have a legitimate shot at doing so in.
