my left hand is always on keyboard - so i got way used to doing the right click/c to close windows quickly... quickest way i knew of.
i may see if there's a registry entry for "Close window" and change it to "&Close window" or something when i get home. 8/2/2009 4:28:08 PM |

Just got Win7 RTM and Server 2008 R2 RTM installed today
Win7 looks all good so far. Server 2008 R2 is a MASSIVE improvement over Beta2 (at least in terms of Performance). 8/5/2009 6:04:00 PM |

Yeah I looked at that. It doesn't explain anything, since they were available last night and since I have a technet subscription, not a msdn subscription.
...
OK, I see now, they are in the technet top downloads section as well. 8/7/2009 12:27:34 PM |
evan All American 27701 Posts user info edit post |
yeah. i'm not sure how technet is laid out, but on MSDN there was a message saying "Please click Details for download information" underneath the download names... when you clicked Details, it told you to go to Top Downloads.

Does anybody know more about how windows xp mode works? I guess if you're using an application you installed under xp the vm image is running as long as the application is? And all applications running under xp mode would be limited (collectively) to the memory allocated for the xp image?
I'd like to use xp mode for development. Work still uses xp and vs2k5, which kinda works under 7, but not well (last tested with RC, now using RTM). 8/10/2009 4:19:32 PM |

^all it is is a pretty interface to microsoft virtual PC. if you want to run an XP app, it has to boot the VM first. and yes, you're limited to the resources allocated to the XP vm. 8/10/2009 4:53:03 PM |

so the Windows 7 upgrade matrix, apparently made directly in response to Walt Mossberg's request, hasn't been posted yet? Really?
and..... just for good measure

And ^, what? It's not "intel only", its that you can't cross architectures during and upgrade (IE upgrade from an Intel to an AMD box, or vice versa).
And that whole chart is typical internet haters jumping at any possible chance to put down Microsoft. Mossberg SPECIFICALLY ASKED FOR A MATRIX, so Microsoft graciously gave him a completely transparent response.
It's pretty obvious that the chart in question is never going to be presented to a consumer audience (did anyone even bother looking at the upgrade site that is linked on the image?).
http://windows.microsoft.com/upgrade
Is an insanely more simple, straightforward consumer presentation. And ALL of the OEM upgrade options (which will be the 98% case for upgrades) are same architecture, same edition upgrades.
It's a complete non-issue, but I guess it's been slow news in the tech world lately and people are itching to find anything they can wrong with Win7, with all it's done right.8/10/2009 7:05:35 PM |
