So I put a new battery in my Audi and that got it started. But it smoked a lot from the belts. keep in mind that I have not had it running in about a year and a half. What to do next? Any suggestions would be helpful! 5/22/2011 7:01:16 PM |

I would put some sea-foam in the gas tank and the oil to clean the engine internals a bit... Check spark plugs too... I would possibly even flush the coolant, but otherwise, enjoy it.
Are the tires okay too? Dry-rot much from sitting?

Paid Jeepman to put an axle seal in my 4Runner.
Installed some new speakers in my boat. Polk Mobile Monitor series. They loud.
Pulled the 600 CFM Holley from my boat and installed a new power valve. Bowl/metering block gaskets were not reusable and it looks like it already had a vacuum leak around the base gasket, so I ordered a rebuild kit. Hoping to have it together and installed Saturday morning.
Waiting for an O2 sensor to come in for the 4Runner. Whenever it gets here I'm planning to replace both O2 sensors and clean the MAF sensor. Hoping that will solve my CEL.

Last weekend I finally reattached the Integra's lower bumper section, which was ripped off over 2 years ago while driving aggressively down an "offroad" dirt trail. The car looks much better now (well, all things considered).
Picking up a cat back exhaust for the S2000 this weekend. It is missing a flange though so it won't be going on right away.
Any of you guys know a good machine shop around here that could weld a flang onto this stainless steel system? 5/24/2011 10:59:34 AM |

I don't know, but why would you spend the money on an exhaust to get 4 hp or something on a car that you really want to upgrade to a Porsche? 5/24/2011 12:18:16 PM |
TKE-Teg All American 43409 Posts user info edit post |
A few logical (at least to me) reasons:
-I've decided to hold on to the S2000 till after I've bought a place of my own (planning that next year). With respect to that, it makes sense to me to hold on to the S2000 with it's 100k mile warranty than jump ship to a 7-8 year old Porsche -Since I'm holding onto it longer I wanna enjoy driving it more. The stock exhaust note sucks. The exhaust I'm buying supposedly gains 7 hp but whatever I'm mainly doing this for the sound. -I'm not spending a ton of cash on this exhaust. It's in great shape and I'm buying it used for $160. I intend to keep my stock exhaust so when I get rid of the S2000 I'll probably just sell off this exhaust as well. 5/24/2011 1:06:58 PM |

When you are going back with it put chapstick on either side of those gaskets.5/24/2011 1:26:23 PM |

Good tip. The newer blue colored bowl and metering block gaskets are supposed to be reusable, but that might give them some extra life. This particular carb had the old brown gaskets and they were in pretty bad shape. Hoping not to have to pull it again for the next few years, but you never know. 5/24/2011 1:36:35 PM |

Probably so. I had an Injen on mine when I bought it, but I switched back to the stock airbox out of fear that I'd suck in water. 5/24/2011 6:05:15 PM |

^ Apples to oranges. The long tube S2k CAIs sit flush with the undercarriage just behind the front bumper...In other words, 5" above the ground or so. I've personally seen a couple engines ruined by driving cars with similar CAIs in heavy rain and I've heard of quite a few more being damaged. At the time I was road tripping the S2000 a lot and it just didn't make sense to worry about it. I would have kept it if it were a short ram CAI.

Did some mods to my car this weekend.
It's got a cool air intake, a NOS fogger system and a T4 turbo. Its got an AIC controller, it has direct port nitrous injection, and finally, a stand-alone fuel management system. 5/25/2011 1:47:31 AM |

I've been de-ricing my car, took this off;
and installed a new starter, oil filler tube, modified the shifter detent on the transaxle and blah blah blah. 5/25/2011 2:03:17 AM |

I hear that. My Integra has a CAI and the filter sits about 5 inches off the ground. To make matters worse there is a large hole in the fender lining so the filter is fully exposed to the elements. The engine has stalled out twice from sucking in water. Both incidents were at less than 2,000 rpm so no engine damage. Just a bunch of water vapor steam coming out the exhaust for a bit after cranking her back up

^^ I bought BigT's STI. Running good so far, I've done two auto-x's and havent had any issues. Granted it's only got like 3k miles after the rebuild so I'm not too concerned but still keeping an eye out. a co-worker of mine who tracks his 08 recommended a moroso oil pan but i dont see the need to drop that kind of dough on an oil pan at this point, perhaps if i were going to be pulling more serious track duty then maybe.
^ yeah, I was actually being facetious but nobody called me out. i haven't really done anything to it yet. it definitely needs a tune though, the factory map just blows. there's a dip in power at about 3k which isn't that much of a problem under WOT but during daily driving it's noticeable and pretty annoying
i did recently install new Brembo blanks & EBC's on the E30. also got some replacement bilsteins that are going on as well once i obtain a wheel hub puller. fun stuff] 5/25/2011 10:53:38 AM |

Almost completed this last night, but you know things can't just go smoothly on a 11 year old truck that spent half it's life in NJ. Cleaning the MAF went smoothly. First O2 sensor was a pain, but went relatively smoothly. Had to replace the nuts because they were so badly rusted that there was barely any actual metal left. Got hung up on the last O2 sensor. One nut came off with a little cussing, but the other just doesn't have enough room for me to get a pair of medium sized vice grips on it. I might have to cut the bolts holding that section of exhaust on and get it off the truck so I can get better access to the nut holding that O2 sensor on. That's how it goes I guess. I've got enough rusty metal in my mouth, nose, and eyes for now so I'm going to wait until next week unless Jeepman or zxappeal wants to take a stab at it.
Carb rebuild kit and new fuel line came in for the boat today.

Took the Audi into the shop. It needed a new alternator, pulley and new belts. This plus a new battery and it was all around $550. Fair deal for an '87 Audi Coupe that sat outdoors for 1 1/2 years?

destroyed something in the drivetrain of my Waverunner. It's totally seized. Thinking it's the motor, hoping it's the jet pump.
I did just finished having it painted...I'll post some pictures of it once I go out and clean it up today.
Also, recharged the AC in the Ram...still doesn't blow cold, though it does engage the compressor and develop plenty of px. I think I overcharged it some (went off a temp chart, not px differential w/ high/low side gauges), so I'm gonna bleed some 134a out and see if that helps. 5/30/2011 12:52:38 PM |
