Vonleh is 18 years old

WHY can't he be a polished NBA player yet??

Exactly why it was a bad pick. We're not a level where we can let our lottery picks mature on the bench for 2-3 years. I'm just ready to get the year started so hopefully I can be proved wrong. I'm only being a bitch about Vonleh because I thought he was the most overrated player heading into the draft, and was much more pissed about him being picked than Hairston.

tower if you don't give a enough of shit to actually follow what's going on then stop talking

Go back and do your research on what happened with the Hornets, Lance, and his agent.

I mean...unless you're contending for the Conference championship...then you are exactly on that level.

Almost every team in the East is a conference championship contender. I guess they're all set.

Not a ton of guys are ready to start in the NBA and make a splash at rookies at the 9th pick. It's not like we had the #1 overall pick.

We don't need Vonleh to be a superstar his first year, just get better as the season progresses. And yeah everyone in the East is contending for a conference championship(with 2 obvious front-runners), but none of them are really contending for a NBA championship considering how much better the West is.

I know exactly what happened. Rick Bonnell is like most of the sports writers covering Charlotte in that he hates his job and isn't all that good at it. His source with the Hornets was Rod Higgins. who is no longer in the front office. For whatever reason, he really doesn't like Lance and didn't want him on the team. So the one time he talked to someone with the Hornets he was like "Are you really going to sign that Stephenson guy" in a poor tone and the FO guy, under no pressure to give anything away and unsure we were going to sign Lance anyway when Hayward was option #1 (who IIRC Bonnell said we weren't going after either) gave a non-response and Bonnell took it to heart.

I suppose there's also the possibility the the Hornets FO outright lied to him multiple times and gave him a hard "no" on Lance but that's really not indicative of him doing a great job either since multiple national guys had us going after him well before the day proceeding the signing.

On the subject of Lance, I remain quite happy with the acquisition and think there's plenty to get hyped up about there. Rookies generally don't make much impact in the NBA so I'd much rather have Lance than what looks like a great draft pick after 5 summer league games (and I still think Vonleh will pan out and even has a big upside, it's just a matter of getting him up to speed ahead of schedule).

Last year only two teams were contenders (Heat and Pacers).

This year only two teams will be contenders (Cavs and Bulls). There are a few other teams with a slight outside chance...but not really.

Miami can still Contend for the east for certain if bosh returns to Toronto form. No idea if he still has any game.

McRoberts and deng are both solid and wade was still wade in the playoffs leading up to his finals meltdown. Chris Anderson is still a stud and they will rely on him more without LeBron.

Chalmers and Cole are their only weak spots so Napier could be a huge asset if he has any game..

and charlotte will absolutely contend especially if we can move Henderson expiring deal and Zeller continues his phenomenonal improvement

I meant that you're on the level where you CAN let your lottery picks develop for a couple years. If you're contending for a conference championship (like 8 teams in the West, and only two teams in the East)...then your picks need to be able to produce.

Charlotte doesn't need Vonleh to be able to be very productive right now.

it was a publicity stunt to draw attention.

everything bob johnson did was to draw black fans. The joke is black people dont have much money. His strategy backfired because he pissed off all the businesses who dont care to advertise to black people so they had no corporate sponsors and white people hated going to the games because it was so thug love in the arena.

The real irony (is it irony probably not since irony is usually used incorrectly) is that he kept hiring black front office people and white players, when obviously you want the opposite.

This has disaster written all over it.

should ddefinitely let the season play out before we make a mistake.

Love the idea of letting him marinate and going after bledsoe, dragic, or bev to save money

WE GOT KEMBA DONE!

4/48 which is decent market value. He's a key cog in what we are building, and I'm glad we got it done before the season started so it won't be looming over the franchise and the player potentially hitting free agency after the season.

No way he ever amounts to being worth more than about half of that.

General consensus with all the NBA writers is that it was extremely fair and well deserved.

When you consider Eric Bledsoe got a max deal and Kyle Lowry (5 years older than Kemba IIRC?) is making the same thing, it seems really reasonable.

If you don't think so, just watch the Horncats play when Kemba isn't in the lineup. We turn to shit really quick.

How is a player being in his prime a negative? Both those guys are way better than Kemba

It's a bad contract but I'm just going to pretend he's making 9 and Lance is making 12

Lowry is 29 this season. The window on his "prime" is quickly closing. He's also had exactly one good season (last season) and lots of mediocre years.

So if I have DirecTV in southern GA do I get the Hornets games? I get Fox Sports South or whatever it's called but I dunno if it'll be blacked out. I do get the Hurricanes hockey games...but then again, there's no longer a team in ATL.

According to the Hornets TV guy, NBA rules limit each team's viewing area to 150 miles from the city. Outside of that you'd need to league pass to watch it. Good news is league pass is free this week, so you should be able to watch tonight's game anyway.
