who gives a fuck about percentages and why are you focused on them?
the margins are thin enough as it is and you’re a random dude on the internet asking another random dude on the internet about percentages that don’t matter in the least (other than your attempt at an online argument, so good job?) 1/7/2021 8:46:22 PM |

What? You started the argument? I acknowledged the racism and gave a percentage, you said I was wrong. If you think the one I listed is wrong you must have an idea of what its right
Me: Obama did some things wrong You: no it was racism Me; yes racism was primary at x% but these other factors mattered You: no that % is wrong

racism was the biggest factor on the margins and activism over the last 4 years was enough to overcome that margin which is why we’re in the position that we’re currently in

I said it was the biggest factor for the entire general election, you're only even saying it's the biggest factor on the margins so why did you come at me when I said 40-50%?? We basically agree?
Like basically my argument comes down to whether or not a presidents actions have an effect on who people vote for. I say they do!

the people who put Trump over the edge could give two fucks about Obama’s actions, other than being black

I've seen that 10-15% of Trump voter previously voted for Obama. Seems like Clinton couldn't have won by keeping them in the tent. If Hilary matches Obamas vote count in she wins Iowa, PA, wisc and much. 1/7/2021 9:22:37 PM |

This statement makes me question whether you know any racists, because this is the opposite of my experience. I think that when a black family took up residence in the East Wing of the White House, it flipped a switch in a lot of white Americans' heads that still hasn't flipped back; I think that Donald Trump's racist incitement over the past five years has only worsened this effect.
My guess is that, while a significant portion of Obama voters may have voted for Trump due to economic grievances or a desire to seek a leadership change in Washington, D.C., Donald Trump's racism led to a large number of both racists and anti-racists turning out to vote who would have otherwise stayed home on election day, particularly in 2020.

Haha well I hope you are right about that blind spot! I am certain I know people who are, I guess, on the spectrum, but I didn't talk with them about that aspect. Most conservatives I know focused on illegal immigration. I'm fully willing to say I may be wrong about the statement and I quoted and I def understand that Obamas race was a good chunk. But while Trump came to political fame with the birther stuff, his campaign was focused on immigration.
Long story short i agree with most of your post but think it's clear that immigration is, at least, the racist cudgel that Trump used to whip up his crowd and announce himself. I'll concede may not have worked as well with a white Democrat in office.1/8/2021 10:14:11 AM |

Because Trump is an unpredictable and unreliable partner driven wholly by self-interest?
From Bezos' point of view, the best case scenario for a partnership with the Trump Administration is that Amazon does all the work and bears all the costs while Trump takes all the credit. The more likely scenario is that Trump loses interest after the initial announcement, the administration fails to provide any follow through or support, the whole thing fails, and Trump blames it all on Bezos trying to make him look bad.

Pretty sure the beef ran the other way.
I'm also pretty sure Amazon is trying to move its own workers to the front of the line. That might happen with Biden. It definitely would not happen with Trump.-]1/21/2021 7:23:38 PM |

Regardless Biden should makes every effort to tell Bezos to go fuck himself and/or put some air tight worker protections in place. Seems like there are a few options
1 govt stats out of it, let's companies define own safety protocols 2 govt defines protocols and punishes companies that don't follow 3 govt defines protocols and let's their workers get unemployment if they don't follow 4. ??
2 would get tons of "what about freedom" complaints, 3 let's them do what will but gives workers some protection
Regardless, the idea that there a significant portion of people who'd rather not work than work is a right wing talking point used to attack social safety nets since they started. How many people do you think are eager to be on unemployment? I think the max benefit is about $12k a year? 1/25/2021 8:57:28 PM |

My response was more directed at HaLo rather than you. Should have used the ^^ to clarify. Your point should be how it works, but sadly it seems like higher risk jobs during a pandemic like meat packing plants have no incentive to pay more. My coworker is from Siler City where his mom works in a meatpacking plant. She got Covid from work. She recovered and is fine now, but Perdue I think never offered them extra money or time off or anything for the higher risk during the pandemic. They were basically told come in or you are fired. She is Latino with little education and around Siler City they are one of the only big employers in town so she really had no choice. I think the unemployment insurance would give people like her an alternative, especially when they are older and have higher health risks.1/28/2021 9:36:05 AM |

Quote : | " Advisers to the president say they are mindful of getting bogged down in talks with Republicans, whose offer didn’t even meet the president halfway on his $1.9 trillion package. And current White House aides who served in the Obama administration confess to being particularly wary after Republicans drew out negotiations and stonewalled much of the former president’s agenda.
Instead, the Biden White House is taking a fine-if-it-comes approach to bipartisanship, at least right now. They’re parading public polls and statements from state and local Republican officials to show that cross-party support for the plan already exists. They’re preparing to pass the bill with 50 votes in the Senate. And Biden aides are arguing that the popularity of the plan’s components — stimulus checks, expanded unemployment insurance and funds to bolster vaccine distribution — puts the onus on Republicans to support it, not on Democrats to subject it to extended negotiations." |
