This is pretty much correct. Any time the clock stops but should have been running under 2 minutes on an offensive penalty, by rule the clock is run off 10 seconds.

The purpose of this is to prevent the offense from repeatedly committing minor penalties when out of time outs in end-of-game situations. A team could conceivably endlessly commit minor offensive penalties to get a stop without sacrificing a down by spiking. But it also applies to mistakes by officials, since it wouldn't be fair to NC State in this case that the refs mistakenly stopped the clock, giving Clemson extra time to design and set up a play.

Honestly in this defense I'm not sure there's a huge difference in the positions they play, especially since on the last drive I'm pretty sure we dropped 8 in coverage every snap. Still impressive though, Brown has been a beast all year
