Nice win against the Deacs. Looks like we have a little fight left for an NIT bid.

Finishing .500 in the ACC oftentimes puts you in the NCAA. I read your startlingly unoriginal post and you are an idiot. How do you get in Vasquez's face when he is on the bench? Do you want to see Davis get a technical? Really great way to win game.
For all you other dumbfucks: Guards played well yesterday and what happened... WE WON. (Even though our post players weren't rebounding well) It is pretty simple quality guard play= wins in Sidney's system college basketball. You can bitch and moan about what big is in or out but the reality is that doesn't make a damn bit of difference if your guards can't hit open shots or are turning the ball over like it is their job. How is this such a hard concept?

Everyone knows that the guard play is the problem. The question is whether or not Sidney is to blame for failing to:
- develop the players he recruited
- recruit better guards
- run a system that fits his players better
- mystifying substitution patterns
- etc, etc

You can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit. Javi is as good as you could expect for what he was recruited as. You run a system that fits the players and you have "fans" screaming for his head "this is boring basketball". Plus you keep trying to force an uptempo low-post oriented baskeball game in hopes that you are attracting the recruits you need to play. The most bitching about substitutions has been addressed (Smith last year-sucked on defense, Horner this year- Howell is consistently injured).
AND this is all spawned because we aren't winning more games which is a direct result of having sub-par talent at that position.

I guess the chicken salad out of chicken shit was above your head. We have gotten about as much as could be expected out of the guards that have come in (I expected far less out of Javi and a bit more out of Mays). He has attempted to get top tier guards in here for several years and next year he finally is...

Lowe brought in the 'chicken shit'. By your logic, no one is to blame but Lowe since they are his players. Glad we got that straight.

I hate to be repetitive... well, not really, that's what this thread is all about...

...but one could argue that sid did a good job getting Javi, Degand, and Marquis after getting into the recruiting game so late, after being left with a bare cupboard @ the point, except for senior Atsur. He whiffed in '08, and on Wall, but Harrow's been committed since... (when's Harrow's official verbal?)

Harrow has already signed his LOC so no fear of him leaving unless sid is gone

this thread should just be put on hold until next halfway through next season. everyone should be able to agree that when our guards play well we win, that our guards have sucked for the majority of sid's tenure, and that next year's guards should go along way to resolving this problem.

and if they don't, then reopen this thread, pin it to the top of sports talk, wear fire sid t-shirts to games, and post flyers on people's cars at state games campaigning for his firing.

FatTony, whether or not you want to forgive Lowe for any recruiting faults in the past is up to you, but he's shown the past few years he knows who to go after. He landed some very talented players, got on Wall, Harrow, Miller, Uchebo, amongst others before they blew up, and is in with Jacob Lawson who looks like his recruitment is starting to blow up some. You might not like his substitution patterns because you don't understand them, however, Sid knows the game a LOT better than you so it makes sense that he would understand what he's doing a LOT more. You also don't come across as being very Basketball knowledgeable.

even if sid gets canned, he would have to be released from his loi first, or he'd have to sit out his first year.

Sid will be the '10-'11 basketball coach for the NC State Wolfpack.

^^^i^^m here, actually kind of pissed since I am a wake fan too and wake actually has a chance at a decent season.

I just got bored with all this shit. Plus, the Fowler thread was pretty entertaining.

Im out until something else comes up. Im done with this shit team this year. Fuck one win against the worst-coached wake team in years.

It is pretty standard practice to release recruits from their LOIs. A couple years ago one AD/Coach wouldn't do it and he got all kinds of shit talking from the media (I forget who I just remember the talking heads talking about how classless it was).

Except for duke, there probably isn't an ACC team that has a chance to go deep in the tournament.

But the conference is more competitive top-to-bottom than it's been in a while.

^^ Oh Really? I guess UNC's wins against Ohio State and MSU mean nothing? Also the fact that two of the bottom teams in the ACC have beaten the best team in the ACC (Duke lost to both NCSU and Miami) would counter your idea. Is it that hard to admit while the ACC might not have a championship caliber team it is one of the strongest conferences top to bottom?

Tracy would have to play the 4 in the NBA

i think he'd have a little bit of trouble with Dirk, Stoudemire, Duncan, KG, Bosh, Gasol, Randolph, Boozer

His credibility as a recruiter is increasing. As a game coach and player developer...still TBD.

I won't be on Lowe bandwagon till he proves he can put together a winning team.

That's like saying a double-A minor league baseball player is a "pro" baseball player.

Sure, it's correct, but if they don't play in the major leagues (NCAA) then they're not a real pro.

A better way to put it would be to say:

1) If we have numerous (3 or more) season-ending injuries

or

2) Coach quits in the middle of the season

or

3) Coach gets hospitalized for more than 5 games

or any other major, unavoidable crisis happens, then the NIT is ok for that season.. but only if the team makes it to MSG with a legit chance of winning it all.

Otherwise, no ncca tourney = disappointing season at NC State.

I want Lowe to do well as much as anybody. I had a shit ton of fun at the NIT games that year (Marist in Reynolds, Drexel in Philly), but Lowe nor State was a "winner" that season.

I give Sidney Lowe credit for recruiting a bunch of guys that are over 6 feet tall... I know the players look small on TV, but in real life they are really tall!

I was standing next to a basketball player the other day and I had to jump up to rub the top of his head...it was crazy...lol!

No one is saying it's the Pac-10 but even the most ardent ACC homers like Vitale and Jay Williams have been saying all year that it's a down year and behind both the Big XII and the Big East this year.

It's really not that big a deal, it just is what it is.

Quote :

Well, 3 wins in 13 isn't exactly something to be shouting about from the rooftops. And a 3-10 ACC record surely doesn't show much promise of anything. It's all about whether or not Ryan and 'Zo are as promised. Nothing we can the rest of this season really has any impact on next season in all honesty -- aside from maybe Painter improving.
